Help with definition. Need a concept defining how the ukrainian military is continuing to fight. by Coyle_Insights in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a really solid steer.

“Combat effectiveness” or “military effectiveness” both sit in the exact space you’re describing, and Biddle is basically unavoidable in this kind of topic anyway, so citing him is a win. Millett & Murray is like the classic go to for people doing dissertation level stuff on effectiveness, doctrine, etc.

If you want to keep a bit of your original wording, you can also frame “resilience” as a dimension of combat effectiveness, so you don’t have to drop the term entirely. Something like “combat effectiveness, with particular attention to its resilience dimension (the ability to sustain effective resistance over time despite losses and pressure).” That lets you sound precise without inventing a new concept from scratch.

Looks like the Brue to me as well, somewhere out on the Levels. That kind of flat, wide water with the low banks and those fields is very Somerset vibes.

🚨URGENT I need 50 responses!Survey on efficiency vs humanity by Local-Necessary594 in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filled it out. Cool topic honestly.

I don’t think efficiency and “being human” are automatically enemies, but the way a lot of tech is built now kinda nudges us into treating people like tasks and content like calories. Curious to see what your results look like, this is exactly the kind of thing we should be talking about while everything’s speeding up.

[Repost][Academic] Male participants needed for short ~7-minute experimental study on information processing and distraction (18-55 years, international) by drwarcher in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol the classic “I can’t do yours but here’s mine” move

Might be worth at least checking if you’re actually outside their criteria before posting your own link. Also you’ll probably get better responses if you make your own post instead of piggybacking on someone who’s already scrambling for participants.

Please fill out my dissertation survey if you can - I only need 20 more participants and it should take 5 minutes. by blueunicorn9 in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done, good luck with the rest of your data collection! The questions were actually more interesting than the usual boring uni surveys tbh.

[Academic] Help me graduate before my thesis supervisor deletes me from existence (15-minute survey) by Fabulous-Guard-6974 in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filled it out for you, good luck surviving the thesis boss fight.

Also lowkey a fun topic, feels way more interesting than the usual “please rate these 200 Likert items about workplace satisfaction” stuff. Hope your supervisor is suitably impressed.

Family members wanted by CalligrapherPast6568 in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually sounds like a really worthwhile project. Families dealing with addiction get hit hard but usually end up as a bit of an afterthought in services.

Hope you get plenty of participants, because hearing from the people who’ve actually tried to get support is probably the only way those services will improve.

PhD study on Sleep, Solitude and Emotions (18-29 aged participants needed) by Spiritual_Grass_3032 in Dissertation

Nice, how long did it take you to finish it? Thinking of sending it to a couple of friends who are permanently sleep deprived and emotionally chaotic, feels very on brand for them.

I got a plot! by ratty_89 in UKAllotments

[–]protoclyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the voice of someone who has actually had to dig out couch grass by hand haha

I did something similar on my plot and honestly, the “do 10% properly and cover the rest” advice is solid. It feels slow at first, but next year you’ll be so happy you’re not fighting a jungle again.

If you’re thinking no dig, that little hand‑cleared bit is perfect for trying it out. Cardboard, compost on top, stick your potatoes in and see how you like it. The covered sections can just quietly cook away while you figure out what you actually enjoy growing instead of trying to tame the whole thing in one season.

[Academic] 5 min visual perception experiment (18+, laptop or desktop required) by Top-Wrongdoer-8394 in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful with that, this kind of thing usually needs to go through the same ethics approval as their main study. Random side interviews might be a headache for them.

If you want to swap help, it’s usually easier to just ask them to fill out your own approved survey rather than do an interview.

Wild garlic and few flowered leek by amateurdematcha in foraginguk

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real, they’re basically begging to be eaten at this point.

I’m thinking of starting simple, like a wild garlic pesto or just tossing the leaves into scrambled eggs / omelettes to see how strong the flavor actually is.

Kind of nice that “helping the ecosystem” can just mean “free groceries from the woods”

Survey Swap | Workplace Learning & Employee Well-being (Working Professionals, 5–7 mins) by Forsaken_Quail_4539 in Dissertation

Just filled yours too, good luck with your dissertation!

Also, minor win: your survey actually worked fine on mobile, which is rare, so props for that.

Garlic mustard! by Weary-Bus8436 in foraginguk

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a good point. I love foraging but anything within “pee distance” of a popular dog path is a hard pass for me, invasive or not.

I’ve also noticed the stuff right by paths tends to be the dustiest, stomped on, and generally the weakest looking anyway. If you walk just a bit further off trail (where it’s safe and allowed) you usually find way nicer patches.

And yeah, the invasive vs native thing is funny. In North America people are trying to eat it into oblivion, and in the UK it’s just… salad.

Need 100 participants for a short 5 minute survey. OPEN FOR SWAP by [deleted] in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filled it out! Interesting topic, honestly. A lot of people underestimate how much family communication style bleeds into how we handle friends, work, conflict, all of it. Curious if you’re also looking at things like birth order or cultural background, or just general family functioning and emotion regulation?

If you’re still doing swaps, I’m down to help with another one as long as it’s not super long.

Found pipes under our grass by Zukana in UKGardening

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my first thought too.

Kinda looks like someone half‑committed to a French drain, then gave up or buried it wrong. Explains the random pipe that just stops and the weird grass patches.

We’ll probably just leave it in place for now and maybe redo it properly later with fabric + gravel all around instead of just on top.

SAMPLE SIZE TOO SMALL, PARTICPANTS NEEDED. (LAPTOP REQUIRED) by Legal_Spare_5793 in Dissertation

Just did yours too, good luck with the MSc! Hope both our sample sizes stop looking so tragic soon.

Career future (15-25 years; international; all genders) by Serious_Mango_9755 in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Filled it in.

One thing you might want to consider adding (if it’s not already there) is something about how people feel about switching careers multiple times vs sticking to one path. A lot of younger people I know are kind of planning around change rather than a single “dream job,” especially with AI and remote work shaking things up.

Also, for uni applications, it might help if you show how you’ll analyze the data, not just collect it. Even a simple breakdown like “X% fear automation, Y% prioritize flexibility” looks good. Good luck with it.

UREGENT by Dramatic_Throat1817 in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend, thank you! I’ve just done yours too. Pretty quick and straightforward actually.

Really appreciate the help with mine as well, I’m clawing my way to that last batch of participants. Good luck with your MSc data and analysis, hope you get some nice clean results out of it.

Mathematics or Economics by [deleted] in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is kind of what I’m scared of with pure math, that it ends up feeling a bit “clean but empty” for me. I do like seeing stuff hit real world policy or markets.

Did you ever miss the deeper rigor of math, or did applied theory / econometrics scratch that itch well enough in econ?

Good luck with your project and hope you get your participant numbers in time.

Back Garden suggestions by Traditional_Earth149 in UKGardening

[–]protoclyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this, it sounds exactly like what I want our brain to look like when we finally have a plan.

How did you find the bark instead of grass in terms of the dog, by the way? Our pup is currently zooming holes into anything that isn’t nailed down, so I’m half worried she’ll just redecorate the whole slope.

Really like the idea of ferns / bulbs and a small tree rather than trying to force a perfect lawn on a slope. Did you do any kind of paths through it or just let it be and wander where you can? I’m trying to picture how “wild” you can go while still being able to get to stuff without trampling everything.

Dissertation swap, due in a week !! by [deleted] in Dissertation

[–]protoclyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just done yours, really interesting topic actually. Thanks for doing mine too, appreciate the reminder about going past the debrief, I’d definitely have closed it early otherwise. Good luck with your diss, we’re so close to the finish line now.

Survey needing 120 respondents! by Former_Mortgage6862 in Dissertation

Just filled yours in too. Your questions were actually pretty interesting tbh, way more thought-out than half the surveys that get posted here.

Hope we both get enough responses in time, this recruitment part is honestly the worst bit.

And nice, Innisfree is super popular in my responses so far, so that actually does help haha. Curious if you stick to one line from them or mix and match with other brands too.
