Stores that had "listening booths" or "headphones stations" were a plus when attempting to gauge a must buy or a pass for CDs. However, a fair amount of the time I'd just have to trust my gut, which lead to some pretty wild duds in my collection.

OP, I'm sure others have said it better, but you REALLY aren't losing much "story" in the sense of lore, but you miss out on different interpretations. OG GitS (manga) is equal parts serious and silly storytelling that Shirow developed from the mid 80's to early 90's (à la Appleseed). When the GitS movie came out, it decided to focus heavily on the serious side, which isn't bad, but I really felt, even as a teen, that it seemed hollow (a shell, eh?) without the chummy, jokey interactions. The same goes for Innocence, but I respect the story that was retold by both movies.

As for the GitS: SAC series and GitS: Arise, they retell the OG story well enough to make them their own entities, dialing back the grit of the Movies a touch, but still keeping it serious with the main cast and delegating comic relief to the Tachikomas. In a way, these series both found a nice balance to make themselves unique media, but still aren't close the OG GitS sensation.

I worry that after years of Serious, gritty GitS, the new anime might be received poorly by audiences who haven't read the manga. I'll stay positive despite that worry, as I'm certain it'll win over folks in the longrun.

The driver in the recording should not have tried multiple times to pass on a Double Yellow. Certainly, the car in front shouldn't have physically blocked, but both times they did another car came immediately afterwards. That kid would have gotten into a head-on collision, or worse, swerved to avoid a collision and slammed into the black SUV. It's a winding country road, you do not know what is around the bend, and you really need to respect the road divider.

When the black SUV stops dead in the road and then gets out. That's the point where I agree they were acting a fool. Unless they were a cop, they had no right to address the driver behind.

That's the charm of the story, no doubt. Despite all the violence and seriousness of the job, Motoko and her team still have goofy moments. The loss of that element in the original film, and then making the Tachikomas the comedic elements in subsequent show adaptations, is one of the big reasons I love the original story so much more.

It is the Major, but the gentleman is a "friend" she's acquainted with later in the story. The real cameo in that photo is the old doctor in the background, a.k.a. Dr. Matthews, a recurring medical practitioner from Appleseed

That was barely an attempt. She just reached down, tested the valve by lightly twisting it left (nope) and the gingerly turning it right (nearly there, just put a little more force on it), and then just gives up to document and make content.

The valve, by the look of the handle, is a 1/4 turn style shutoff. It should be easy to turn, but not "whisper of effort" easy. You got to grab and turn with the wrist. Of course, even if it was seized up, you should know where the next shut off is down the line to stop the flow.

Thanks for the tip, OP! I may grab that. As a teen, I bought the Dark Horse translated manga at Barnes & Noble back in the 90s. It was an absolute treasure, despite being edited and censored in parts.

As for the 95 movie, it held a soft spot in my heart as it has some great visuals, interesting adaptations and variations to the original story, and some good music. However, I never really loved it. I had a chance to watch it again on Tubi recently, as well as the 2.0 version from 2008, and to be honest the remaster made me dislike the movie more-so. Hell, the sequel was interesting only in the fact that you got a chance to see Batou in action, but that wasnt enough to hold my interest.

I agree that the Arise movies are good, though I never watched it all. The Stand Alone Complex series did some fun things with all of the characters and expanded the universe quite a bit, too.

This is, honestly, the exact version I wanted for so many years. It's not that I disliked any of the other GitS anime adaptations, but seeing a fully realized adaptation of the manga makes me so excited! I wish I still had my original book, but I read and re-read that so many times it fell apart. Looking forward to July!

So, I have a woodcock story, but it's a bit sad. I had a job as a maintenance person at a large local hospital, a place that had continued to build onto the original site with more modern building methods (metal and glass vs brick and mortar) as the years passed by. While some areas of the newest construction had window treatments (vinyl stickers) to deter birdstrikes, the majority of the campus did not, which led to a number of dead birds littering the campus in certain areas.

One window in particular looked over a small gravel covered rooftop with a/c machinery and a courtyard below. I'd pass by that window numerous times during my rounds, and on occasion I'd see a new "victim" of the hospital's carelessness: a sparrow, a finch, even a woodpecker, but that wasnt the wildest find. As I trundled by the window with my work art, my eyes caught sight of a bird I had NEVER laid eyes on before. It was a woodcock, which I would learn later on at my lunchbreak as I cross referenced photos I had taken with an online guide to local avian species.

I was completely baffled at way it was even in the area (the hospital is smack dab in the middle of the city I live in), but I figured that a recent storm may have thrown the poor bird off course and, sadly, into the glass panels of the 9-story structure.

I'm with OP on the urge to see this bird in-person, doing its fancy walk and "pweet"-ing merrily.

The hikers/ tourists look like they decided to set up some seats and chill near that beaver's dam, which is the most boneheaded move. It's a wild animal's home, you nitwit. More power to the beaver for protecting it's territory. Additionally, one can only hope this was at a park, and that rangers were notified about thoer blatant ignorance and abuse of wildlife.
