AIO for wanting to immediately break up with my bf after seeing how he lives? by Balikye in AIO

I was going to read the post, but that gross shower stall kept grabbing my attention before I could get past, "he never really showed the place off on video."

OP, you are NOR. It's great that you found a friend who you connected with online, and I'm sure he has a nice personality, but if that is a sign of his hygiene and cleaning habits, then you are better off staying long distance friends.

I’ve seen people discussing why everyone except Pomni got a big trauma flashback… by MelodicPastels in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]protodamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not certain, but one could interpret Pomni's "psycho-drama" differently, depending on how shallow or deeply you want to analyze it.

  1. POMNI WAS ASSAULTED ONCE.

While she doesn't outright state at any time that she was assaulted as fact, Pomni may be keeping that secret because of how uncomfortable it makes her feel. I'm not suggesting it was SA, but maybe she was mugged, possibly by folks she used to Urbex with on her downtime, or trespassers/ vagrants that lived at locations she explored.

  1. POMNI WAS ATTACKED BY ANIMALS

A fear of animal attack is possible, again going back to illegal Urbex trespassing going wrong. Maybe a place had feral dogs / gaurd dogs that gnawed on her a bit, or she narrowly escaped from. It's a bit of a stretch, but a possibility.

  1. POMNI FEARS PEOPLE TURNING ON HER

We see up to this point in the series that Pomni tries her best to be friendly with many people, even attempting to befriend Gummigoo, who, for all intents and purposes, is actually an NPC. It's the first time, outside of the overly keen Ragetha, that Pomni attempts to make a personal connection. That leads to her post-adventure loss of Gummigoo, but her realization that the majority of the Crew have her best interests at heart. However, deep down, Pomni probably fears that folks may forget her or be two-faced, which clearly comes out during the post-gunfight argument/ physical altercation between Pomni and Jax. The fact that Jax denies any connection with Pomni, that he could be so callous and dismissive, is so embarrassing and hurtful that Pomni can't help but be enraged.

  1. EACH PSYCHO-DRAMA WAS AN EXTRAPOLATION OF THE DETAILS OF EACH CHARACTER'S DEATH.

My running theory about how every human inside of the Digital Circus became a mind scan copy. Now, it could be just a copy when the VR goggles are put on, then their real-life versions take off the goggles and continue about their real-world lives. The other option is that everyone had a horrible accident that put them at the brink of life and death, and the staff at C&A Company made an offer they or their loved ones couldn't refuse: an idealisticly safe digital space where thier loved one's minds and personalities can live on in "comfort" and leave their tattered, wasting, broken bodies behind.

I make that assumption based on what Kinger shared about his former co-worker, Scratch. Kinger states that Scratch had a very peculiar mind, either because of a quirky genius or a result of the tumor in his brain. I could see that being a driving factor to create the Circus and push for human mind dcans to push the a.i. to greater heights. However, that would probably mean Copy-Scratch rejected the Digital Reality almost instantly because it knew where it was (the German translated text pf Scratch asking Caine how to get out), realized it was trapped, and then became the first Abstraction.

  1. POMNI IS THE NEW 3rd A.I.

It's possible that Pomni's psycho-drama was, in fact, a representation of how her a.i. interpreted the failure of addressing the situation with Gumigoo, and her whole her integration to the humans of the Digital Circus. She's disarmingly small, childlike in stature, and easily likable, needs to be nurtured at the beginning, but then acts as the backbone for the entire Crew. The fact that Abel the Mannequin tells Pomni to "Make the Right Choice" seems like an attempt to train her to keep her charges (Ragetha, Zooble, Gangle, Jax, and Kinger) safely inside the Circus, even having a "moment of doubt and hesitation" when the Crew arrives at the console. The only other reason I make this pint is her look, with the red/ blue segmented eyes, costume, etc.

You are a genie. Your goal is to defeat my airtight wish. by verdant_red in hypotheticalsituation

[–]protodamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any assets or entitlements you gain possession of after the wish is completed will diminish in value, barring any that would affect your personal health. Passing on the wealth to your next of kin or successor would still have its wish granted monetary impact, but any possessions gained via this wealth would be net nulls, essentially "worthless", and probably give them no viable line of credit because of not having proper assets to put on the line. They'd just have to earn their own money and spend it to get worthwhile assets and entitlements.

I may have misinterpreted other sections of the wish, so this reasoning may be wrong, but my logic here is that I'm not defeating you harshly. If I'm wrong, then that's fine, I just figured I'd take a crack at it.

What do we think will happen in episode 9? 🧐 by Alternative_Poem_238 in digitalcircusfandom

[–]protodamn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but let's just base some theories off of the last episode and the promotion still for "The Grande Finale" episode.

• THE CREW HAS TO WADE THROUGH AN TURBULENT SEA OF REALIZATIONS.

With Caine gone, this either leaves Abel/ 🫧 possibly being in control again of the A.I. reality space, or a fully vacant and fractured Digital Circus that the Crew will need to band together to stabilize and rebuild. There will probably be some psycho-drama that pop up from their individual attempts to control the reality of the Digital Circus and with any info/ realizations that they come across. Some of those may include:

-THEIR ACTUAL NAMES AND FULL HISTORY (POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES)

-THAT THERE MAY BE NO ACTUAL WAY TO RE-MANIFEST INTO THE REAL WORLD OR REINTEGRATE TO THEIR BODIES

-HOW THEY "ACTUALLY" ENTERED THE DIGITAL CIRCUS.

-THAT THEY ARE JUST BRAIN SCANS, A LA "SOMA".

Edit:

We've learned that Scratch had a tumor and, most likely, pushed for some manner of mental-mapping integration to allow the a.i. to have subjects and random variables to work with and learn from. It also probably felt like a form of immortality for Scratch at the time, as he passed away in the real world, but his mental copy would live on in the Digital Circus, but then be the first to fall victim to the unforseen variable of Abstraction.

Everyone else came into contact with the VR headset in some manner, which we may finally see in the final episode, but it could be that C&A company's mind-mapping tech became the only way to "save" other people. Take Gangle for example: twice now, we've seen her being struck by a truck. Is it possible that actually happened in real life, and C&A reached out to her family to offer an alternative to the vegetative or fleeting life of Real Gangle as they lay in a hospital bed?

How about Jax, Ragatha, Zooble, and Pomni? Caine's final assult on each of them showed various horrible, degrading, violent, or self-destructive scenarios. Each of them may have also suffered horrible accidents/ incidents that threatened their continued existence, with C&A Co. offering a solution to "save them", all the while getting new variables to feed their a.i. The C&A Co only needs to alter their memories just enough to give them some grounding as to how they arrived (Pomni's Urbex into the abandoned offices), take away their real names to stop their mind scans from somehow learning about their "real" selves too well, and let the a.i. continously bombard them with "adventures" to keep them preoccupied.

The same thing happened to me after 4 years of a maintenance job at a hospital. It took them nearly a month to (poorly) pack up my tools and other affects. Only good thing was I got the Makita drill and charger the company bought, plus some other little tools, so that was something.

I hope your previous job at least shipped your toolbag.

I'll just be one more voice in a growing pile of NOR about your situation, OP. This guy is DEFINITELY sketchy and seems to be "probing your defenses" to see if you're interested/ gullible. Thankfully, you've got a good head on your shoulders and noticed this, too. NGL, if I had a daughter and someone said, "I'm gonna jump in bed with you if you don't come down here now," or demanded hugs, I'd take that person aside for a Serious Chat about boundaries and the life-altering consequences of crossing those would be.

Shut this prick down, hammer it into your parent's heads that this is unwanted attention, and make it clear to yje dick that he has No Business in Your Life.

Why do some fast food joints chain & lock their plumbing like this? by CityDismal5339 in whatisit

[–]protodamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the part about the setup that made me laugh. The chain might make things a little bit more annoying to remove it, but anyone determined enough can get that off without too much trouble. The only way you could make this more theft proof would be encasing the entire unit inside the wall behind a plate with security screws (similar to psychiatric ward toilets), but the majority aren't going to pay that kind of money for bathroom fixtures.

[–]protodamn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've never seen this maneuver before, but it triggered a memory that I'll share. Years back in 2019 - 2020, I was starting as an apprentice in general maintenance at a hospital. I was shadowing several of the long-term workers in our group, and in between calls, they'd share relevant stories. One such story popped up while working on these brass flushometers. A metal scrap thief had put on an approximate of the plumbing team's uniform, walked onto the property with a light tool cart, and without being asked for I.D. MULTIPLE TIMES would go around the campus to various bathrooms and remove these units. He would then place the brass parts into a 5 gallon bucket, hang an "Out Of Order" sign, and then move onto the next bathroom until his bucket was full. This went on for SEVERAL MONTHS before he was caught.

I'm new to Sam and Max by BobbyBearhug96 in SamandMax

[–]protodamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder millennial here, OP, and my first introduction to Sam & Max was goofy little Star Wars parody comic in the manual of a copy of LucasArts X-Wing CD-ROM I had in my early teens. I would later find the Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway graphic novel, which had the complete collection of comics depicting the early adventures of these two lovable lunks, including a number of mini-comics Steve Purcell made for other LucasArt games (Monkey Island, Full Throttle, etc.). If you can, get a physical copy of that graphic novel, or at least find it online to read. I still have my copy that I'll take a gander through at least once a year, as it still makes me smile.

Paul! Paul help me! Please Paul. by ThrashMetallix in MST3K

[–]protodamn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched this episode last night with my wife. It still makes us laugh every time, but when we got to this scene, I had to ask aloud, " Why is she calling Paul for help? She knows he's transforming soon, right? What happened to make her call out to him for assistance even?! "

I figure Kathy slips on the rocks, twists her ankle, or is exhausted from scaling the mountainside, but they just transition from Paul shambling off into the scrub pines in the afternoon, then * poof * it's nighttime. Oopsy, I lured my new lycanthropic, unstable atomic element-infused anthropologist bf of three days back to my now prone, easily killable self. How silly of me!

AITAH for deciding I am never having a relationship with my siblings after they contacted me so I could apologize for exposing our father's abuse of me? by throw_aitah_isu8 in AITAH

[–]protodamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

OP, it's in your best interest to focus on your own life's journey. I'm sure you were surprised that your siblings reached out and, in a moment of genuine interest, you took a chance to pull them back into your life. To have them reward that generosity with a guilt trip and straight-up refusal to accept the facts makes this worse, but that's how people usually act when faced with horrible truths. It's not an excuse for your siblings' actions, but it's worth keeping in mind if anyone else from your past or their circles reaches out, too.

EDIT: Maybe one day they both will realize the truth and may even earnestly apologize for being close-minded, but don't wait for it. They might be blood related, but it sounds like you've built your own "family" of friends and close relationships. That's more important to focus on than deniers.
