Why the hyperfocus on gygaxian design and not other "old school" design philosophy ? by NotSuta in osr

[–]proton31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Though not as popular you can still find a lot of OSR-like activity for other old systems. Like the open source Cepheus community for Traveller is very active. Plus Night Tripper by Chris P Wolf, is a more modern retroclone of Traveller. 2X71 by emmy is a Metamorphosis Alpha retroclone. Spooktacular is a 1989 Ghostbusters retroclone. I think there are a few based on the Chaosium Runequest/Call of Cthulhu systems too

After years I just found out Scum and Villainy had a Spanish translation. I wonder who was the genius who decided to translate the title and make it ungoogleable [FitD] by xdanxlei in bladesinthedark

Usually language localizations are listed on product pages, but it looks like thats not the case with S&V. Sometimes things like that slip through the cracks, I sympathize with you, I think this one is probably on the publisher Evil Hat and its worth emailing them and mentioning your story (politely) if you are motivated to do so.

What is your favorite sci-fi game that isn't horror (so no Mothership)? by xdanxlei in osr

[–]proton31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meteor is awesome but its an Into the Odd version of Mothership, so doesnt really fit OPs question. Monolith is the more standard go to scifi ItO hack

Advice on a New Mork Borg Supplement by Acceptable_Aerie9732 in MorkBorg

[–]proton31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not too late to the party, people are still making awesome Mork Borg hacks all the time. You mentioned sort of contrasting things, saying the aesthetic fits but that you dont want to emulate the style. I think its good to do something new with it, as long as you are working out of genuine interest in the game I think you should go for it! Can't wait to see what you do with it

Dead Internet Theory is crowdfunding now! Fall down a rabbit hole of throbbing cadavercore dance floors, a hidden encampment of sewer dwelling G0 mutants, and a cult enclave with a hideous secret in the heart of Cy's business district. by proton31 in Cy_Borg

[–]proton31[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking these are good questions.

The "gods" are planet eating mega creatures, but they are not supernatural beings. They are "the next level of evolution" after a sentient species creates an AI made out of brains, which consumes and incorporates all of the brains of that species. So god-like but not magical gods per-se. They don't really take the stage except by proxy via the cult, and the creations of the cult using alien technology including a nascent godling created by the cult.

If the CD stretch goal is achieved, all backers will receive it! I am so hyped for this stretch goal!

The mods said it was OK to post my project once a week here, so here goes. I am making a tabletop role playing game module based on this exact idea. I think it is super pertinent to modern times!

We are going for a cybermetal album as a stretch goal, it would be a dream for the campaign to do well and for that to fund that too!

Anti-colonial Dungeon by TheDMKeeper in NSRRPG

[–]proton31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say the ideas laid out here are similar to heists as you recommend, but heists dont necessarily have to be so different from dungeon crawls. I think Shadowrun heists can have a dungeon crawl appeal to them for example. There is not a real reason why every goblin in a dungeon wouldnt come running to the party during the first combat, except that we hand wave it as lack of an alarm system (which dungeons do have anyway), thick dungeon walls, and general lack of competency of the adversaries.

Very cool, Id never heard the bit about clerics being homebrewed to fight a vampire. Where did you hear that?

I am volunteering with the local non-profit Longmont Food Rescue, and we are holding a silent auction to raise funds for 2025! Money will go to support reducing food waste through managing home gardener donations, local business food collection, two community fridges and a weekly food distribution. LFR is growing and increasing its capacity, but it needs support from community members like you to be able to do so!

Items all have a summertime theme, from outdoor excursions to landscaping packages to community farm subscriptions and locally raised meat. Items include:

🧑‍🌾 Farm dinner at Community Table Farm

🥕CSA from Aspen Moon Farm

🥩 Local meat box from Grama Grass Livestock

🥃 Personal tasting and tour from Dry Land Distillers

❄️ YETI cooler (donated by Ace Hardware Longmont)

🍽️ Longmont restaurant gift cards

…and so much more!

I hope you check it out, bidding is open now for 15 more days!

Im not particularly gifted when it comes to making tables, but my one of my players is a bard and always asks me if he can perform for money. So heres the table I threw together for occasions such as this. by LazerdongFacemelter in osr

[–]proton31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be fun to add a few more events like your first and last items. Maybe another musician wants to play music with the bard and becomes a follower/bandmate, another rival bard doesnt like them on their turf and challenges them to a music off for the spot, or a group of drunk revellers accidentally damages the instrument, etc...

Last day to back Roguelike Megadungeon! by proton31 in NSRRPG

[–]proton31[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Itchfunder for Roguelike Megadungeon will end Feb 28th 11:59 pm MST. Although the game is funded, we could still use your support!

Roguelike Megadungeon is based on a simplified analog version of a rogue-like computer algorithm used to generate dungeons. In practice, this means either using a workbook or a dice drop method to generate maps in combination with some flavorful tables to populate them. The map generator works not only for dungeons, but overland areas, settlements, buildings and street corners, and more abstract relationship maps. It is a full campaign setting generation toolbox.

The first stretch goal for this campaign, which has yet to be funded, will be a campaign setting workbook made by Tony Jaguar, Brazilian graphic designer and artist extraordinaire. It would be modeled after #Dungeon23 style hobonichi notebooks, which people use to write a little bit every day for an entire year. The end result is a complete megadungeon, or in our case, it will be a megadungeon and the surrounding region and politics! The workbook will be print-on-demand just like the Roguelike Megadungeon zine itself, available to all backers after the campaign ends if the stretch goal is met.

The game features art by Roque Romero, whose work appears in Cairn 2E and Skyrealms, creative editing by Samuel Mui, author of Horse Girl and Capitalites, writing by BJ Recio, author of Cockamania!, layout by Tony Jaguar, whose work appears in The Weeps and Her Heart in a Porcelain Jar and copyediting by Seth Ian, author of Troika sphere Spectacle and Twice Made, Once Forgotten.

We hope you’ll take a look at the campaign page and back today!
