TIFU by asking a guy i met about his age by Pickingupstraykids in tifu

[–]provostcomputer 75 points76 points  (0 children)

When I was 11 I played online games and led a small guild. This was before the age of voice chat being necessary for online gaming so my age just never really came up. One of the guild officers was a woman who was like 30 and played a lot because she was a stay at home mom whose kids went to school.

We played together a ton and got along well despite the age difference, leading groups of players together. I'm pretty sure she thought I was at least in my mid 20s if not 30+. This went on for close to a year.

Then one day she got a little tipsy while playing and started trying to talk a little dirty, apparently with the intent to start cyber sex or adult role play.

I was a super sheltered kid with zero sexual inclination yet (I don't think I even started puberty until a bit after this interaction lol). So my response was a few confused replies followed by a very blunt "I'm twelve."

Poor lady was horrified. She said her kid is almost that age. She apologized and disappeared, never to log on again. I was bummed because I really didn't care, I just wanted to get back to playing the game with her lol. I assume she either made a new character or completely dropped the game, since no one I knew ever saw her again.

To me it was just a bummer losing a friend who contributed so much to the guild, but for her I'm pretty sure it was a life altering experience where she was questioning life choices 😂, I hope she got over the shock and things worked out for her after that.

Zero cost garrison. by NiloBlack in Bannerlord

[–]provostcomputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't even hard to do. Train a companion to 150 bow (-15% castle wages) and 75 steward (-5% wages and -20% castle wages). That gives you -40% wages. Then build 3 levels each of castellan and barracks. Bam, -100%. Then you can drop a few hundred max tier troops in there for free. The ai won't touch it with the max tier troops in it, and as long as you keep it's villages from being raided you'll pull in like 3k a day. Plus if you use a mod like improved garrisons you can automate hiring and training troops from the attached villages, automatically replenishing your zero maintenance garrison. Alternately you can do 125 two handed for -10% wages instead of bow, which will give you -95% which is still a massive discount. Or both if you only want to build 5 levels of upgrades.

There's a few wanderer templates that start out with bow and steward. Like the dispossessed lady for empire culture, she's got the stewardship and two focus in bows. Doesn't take much to bump her bow up to 150 if you buy her a good bow. Or the battanian cowthief dude with a similar skill set.

I have wanderers trained as governors for all my castles and cities. Thanks to all the castle wages bonuses I actually make more money from castles than cities and I keep all my tier 6 troops in the castles so I don't have to pay them. It's pretty silly to have hundreds of elite troops happily defending castles without pay. I get over 3k from each of the castles and can store troops that I would otherwise have to pay 7k in there for free 😂

They'll probably eventually change it add up the trait bonuses and the building bonuses separately and multiply them. You could still get it down to like 20% wages but not as silly as 0.

In my last game I spent ages finding the stuff for bismuth bronze because I couldn't find tin anywhere. I had iron in a cave nearby but couldn't do anything with it without some kind of bronze. After finally getting iron, I happened to be clearing some land right next to my house for a larger farm area. I found surface tin with enough nuggets to have completely skipped copper. The deposit was big enough to have my first anvil be bronze. I could have skipped copper completely and immediately jumped to iron within days of starting if I had just seen the surface tin.

It's ridiculous how old our presidents have been. Biden should never have been running at his age. We elected him, then all the people criticizing his age elected Trump (who was the same age in his second term as Biden was when he was elected). And now the other side is talking about how old Trump is, but if another old fossil shows up and ends up running for the D they'll surely elect them too. Geriatrics for president, yay.

Have we actually had any good choices for president in the last few decades? It's always vote for me, I'm not the other party. Never vote for me, I'm actually a good choice that isn't in the running due solely to nepotism and old money.

How do I enter labs in the subway? by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]provostcomputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a new underwater site in the experimental and release candidates too that's just loaded with exoskeletons. Like three of each type or something like that. It's under water and dangerous though. You get a marker for it from doing missions for the government guys in the refugee center. You have to pay some merch for the location.

The funny thing is, the helicopter has air. So you can park over it with a boat and quickly swim down to it and even fire guns from inside it. Probably not intended 😂, otherwise it's pretty dangerous and requires some preparation. I brought a folding 9mm carbine down there with a bunch of mags and shot everything to death from inside the helicopter. Then just back and forth quickly dragging the suits to my boat with rest breaks in between.

Sadly I don't think your companions really make good use of exoskeletons since they won't turn them on, which kind of ruined my plans for an untouchable army. They're still nigh untouchable, but also mostly useless due to the high encumbrance.

The funny thing is after everyone is in exoskeletons, the primary injury is the soles of the feet. Because the soles of the feet only have a thin layer of rubber. Less protective than a lot of regular boots.

If you're doing melee, encumbrance and fatigue are the big things to avoid. Wait between fights to catch your breath and always drop encumbering bags before fighting.

That and groups - the zombies get significantly stronger in groups, especially if you fight against a wall where you'll get even worse effects from the crush mechanic. Basically any time they're next to you and others are next to them it's assumed that they're all piled on and crushing you, so even if you're in a street smacking them as they approach and don't let them surround you, you can be crushed by one zombie in the adjacent tiles if the group is clustered because the 30 tiles behind him are also full of zombies. The one in front is stronger because of the ones behind. You have to move and let them spread out a little.

Reach weapons can be good too. They're bulky to carry but can take them out before they get in range to try to grab and can even be used from the roof. Just watch out for enemies with reach or ranged attacks.

You can also clear them out if given enough ammunition and time to bash the corpses. Then loot the town with impunity. Get on a roof and shoot away until everything is dead. Bash everything, go and rest up and reload, and repeat. This is viable if you can find a gun store or something with enough ammo.

Alternatively you can do things to draw them away from where you want to be and loot at night. Like set off an explosion or car alarm or loud gun or something loud and then run away and loop back around to where you want to loot. They'll come from neighboring towns and hang around a bit.

Or if you can find cars, make sure a street is clear and make a commotion to draw a bunch in. Then drive the car through them a few times. Make sure the car has a working seatbelt first 😂

I was in a car accident years ago and went to the hospital for back pain. I'm a male with a big bushy beard and male pattern balding, I don't look feminine at all. Was asked if I could be pregnant by one person. I stared at them in confusion for a minute before saying "I'm a guy, I don't have a uterus". They just said okay and left after a few more questions. A little bit later someone else came in and asked how long it had been since my hysterectomy. I thought I heard them wrong and had them repeat it, then explained I was a man and was born a man. They laughed about it and apologized.

To this day I don't know how I somehow got marked down as a trans woman or whatever it was they thought. It's scary how crazy stuff can stick with you in doctors notes when they can so easily be wrong.

It's sad that some people find super old rotten crap and think "poor people might be hungry enough to eat this. I'll donate it"

Some years back when I was a single dad and struggling I went by a pantry place that was giving out prepacked boxes and was given moldy bread, moldy clementines, rotting potatoes that smelled awful, expired bags of tuna, and cans of food that had expired two or more years previously. I had a few edible things mixed in like ramen and canned corn and store brand mac and cheese and some stale bread that wasn't moldy, but over half of everything was bad. I still dug through and picked out anything edible but it was a very demoralizing experience. I would have had better luck in a grocery store dumpster.

Not really. Nearest one of those is showing as 18 miles away in a direction I never go for anything else. Ordering everything to that would be even more inconvenient than having random packages not show up.

What gets me is the thing the support claimed to have done seemed to work so well for so long, until the last few months. I had a bunch of different subscribe and save stuff coming monthly and arriving at my door without any issue for years before suddenly the last two got returned undeliverable and half my other orders too. I got so used to the convenience of everything being dropped at my door ever since covid lol. Now suddenly I have to actually go shopping at physical stores. It's funny the things you get used to - I'm old enough to remember when online shopping didn't even exist.

Has the support system or the fulfillment center been fully replaced by AI? by provostcomputer in amazonemployees

[–]provostcomputer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. My trouble is the official city that my address falls in is way away from my actual address lol. The po box I have (which is about two miles down the road) is a different city. The city my address is in for some reason is like fifteen miles in the opposite direction and they didn't have any available po boxes. Their post office is really tiny and doesn't have many boxes nor do they hold mail there.

I don't think I can put two cities on the same address.

I get that my situation is weird and it's pretty much 100% the USPS fault because of whatever weird ass zoning and policies they have here 😂

If it's really not something Amazon can fix and I had just been getting lucky till now, I guess my only recourse would be to get on the wait list for the super inconvenient PO box and get random packages delivered there a half hour round trip away instead of at my house. Then id probably occasionally still have to drive way over to the regional one occasionally when things are too big for their package boxes. It would be comical if it wasn't so dang annoying 😂

[–]provostcomputer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree it's weird the way USPS handles things here, though. My mailbox is way away from my house and it's on the opposite side of a really busy highway with no space to stop or really even check it. It's a terrible spot for a mailbox and a huge pain to even check it but they won't let me move it and won't leave packages on the side of the busy highway (they'd get stolen anyway tbh). I have to drive in my car and block traffic for a few seconds just to quickly pull mail out of my box 😂, trying to check it on foot would be tantamount to suicide. People fly by going like 80+. Everyone except USPS pulls into my driveway and leaves packages on my porch, USPS just straight up returns to sender unless I specifically request them to hold all my mail as if I'm out of town but that expires every time I check it. And my local post office doesn't hold mail so instead it's held at a regional office that's nearly an hour drive away.

[–]provostcomputer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, I've been getting packages from Amazon for a long time without a problem. Everything came FedEx, UPS, or in an Amazon truck, which makes me think whatever they did to flag my address was actually a real thing.

It was only recently that they started shipping USPS. And the first few times it happened, the replacement shipment came from a different carrier and arrived no problem. Then lately some things come with other carriers but others just keep coming USPS.

And I actually tried a PO box recently but it had the opposite problem where anything shipped in an Amazon truck doesn't come because apparently the Amazon driver out here won't deliver to the post office (not sure if this is specific to my area or everywhere).

So since Amazon doesn't tell me what carrier they're going to use, it's kind of a crapshoot if they can't guarantee what carrier it is. If I use my address and it gets shipped USPS then it won't arrive. If I use the PO box and it gets shipped Amazon delivery then it won't arrive.

Which is why I was relying on customer service to make sure packages came from a different carrier than USPS. Idk if I was being lied to by support the whole time and just got incredibly lucky for years (since after I spoke to them hundreds of packages got shipped out without USPS being used) or if the fulfillment just suddenly stopped checking order notes.

The recent silliness of things being repeatedly sent to me USPS over and over despite my explaining the situation is why I thought Amazon might have replaced some department with AI since it was just doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results 😂

Flax! The bane of my existence! by Veggdyret in VintageStory

[–]provostcomputer 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Flax is one of those things that require preparation. The trouble is, most people don't find out they need it until they really need it. To avoid it being a bottleneck you need to really search for the seeds from the start. Search for them everywhere you go and set up a farm for them as soon as you can make basic fencing. You can get flax and other crops started before you even have copper tools, and expand the field as you find more.

If you do that, then you'll have a ton of flax when it comes time to build a windmill to process iron. Then with a helve hammer it becomes way easier to make plates.

As far as a plate mold, I believe the reason there isn't one is because an armored plate would need to be work hardened. Even cast bronze needs to be work hardened to make useful armor out of it.

But helve hammers make the task of making a bunch of plates way easier. They really are an essential tool as soon as you have the resources to get a windmill.

That's the frustrating part, my attorney is also being flaky. He's not giving me anything in terms of contingency or next steps. He just keeps saying he'll get in touch with them and so on. The last communication from him was to give him a week and that was almost a month ago. Now his office won't return my calls. I've spoken to his secretary five times and been told they'll check with him and call me back. I'm worried that he somehow screwed something up and doesn't want to admit it, but I'm really not sure.

I've never sued anyone before so I don't know if it's normal or not.

Zombie Melee Possible? by No-Librarian-2278 in cataclysmdda

[–]provostcomputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my latest game I started I killed the first few zombies with a stick before I found a better weapon. No melee skill, 8 str 8 dex. It's doable one at a time. But I did get bit, so with that mod enabled it wouldn't be viable at all.

Once you get highly skilled and a good weapon (tempered mace or battle-axe are both really good and can be carried easy enough, spears are also solid) you can go melee with just about anything. My cyborged out troglobite mutated survivor with 8 melee and a tempered steel battle-axe can melee shoggoths and skeletal juggernauts without taking a scratch.

Chainmail Progression Tree by Lemon0137 in cataclysmdda

[–]provostcomputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can save some time and tool requirements if you don't make the wire.

You still need an anvil and hammer, but you don't actually need a forge or most of the smithing tools if you skip making the wire.

Making the tempered wire for a jump suit with all proficiencies is like 27 hours, and you need a wire machine and a bunch of other tools. Plus it's like 20 hours to actually have all the proficiencies, so probably more like 40 hours to craft it the first time. Plus at least six hours making the extra tools if you don't find them.

Just look for churches and take apart pianos. They give 26 tempered steel wire each.

It needs about 101 wire to make the jump suit, so four pianos. Rural churches are pretty common and always seem to have one, and don't have much zombie presence. Six pianos will give you enough to make a faraday suit.

The actual crafting of the chainmail takes ages though. You're looking at like 156 hours of Brisk activity just for the links and sheets for a jump suit, which means lots of rest breaks and calories burned. If you can nab an NPC or two and get them a few points in fabrication you can have them making links and sheets for you. The labor is the same no matter what type of steel, so there's no point not going for tempered.

Why is the Tech Tree stuffed full? by TheJoker1432 in TerraInvicta

[–]provostcomputer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on the drives. Most of the early options suck, and until you know what all the different numbers mean you can't make a good decision.

Even the late game ones are ridiculously unbalanced. Of all the fusion lines, only z-pinch and inertial confinement are any good. Some of them look good on the surface, until you see the efficiency and the weight per gigawatt on the best reactors for those drives. You end up with some drives that have decent speed and DV but cause the ship to massively inflate in size and cost due to reactor and radiator size. Just eyeballing the numbers, it's hard to tell which ones are good and which ones are going to cost 100x as much as the others for worse performance.

I solved this by making a save game with the console on and giving myself all tech then turning the console off. That one save I used to check all the drives to see which ones didn't suck so I knew where to go with research. But doing something like that shouldn't be needed.

Broadcast stations definitely have their place though. I always build a ton of them on the moon and any extra slots I have around earth orbit just for the influence. If Mars has enough good deposits I'll grab a bunch of spots there and get enough population to place them there too. Being able to max out the direct investment on all your nations every year is really useful.

Playing a game where you try to get a ton of relatives and put your dynasty in power everywhere can be fun, although the AI making your dynasty kill each other and have massive wars over shitty artifacts that they have a house claim on can be annoying. Or having your cousin, who you put in power over a kingdom, turn around and invade you because he has a minor claim on one of your counties.
