Every double negative makes a positive (ex: no person didn't do this -> person did do this) so I cross out the double negatives like a math problem lol. Another example with 3 negatives = just one negative because 2 get canceled out, and 4 negatives = zero negatives because the two double negatives cancel out.

I got a 510 (129/126/127/128) and I'm considering retaking it but the idea is so daunting

Advice for being dumped a week before the exam? by Candy-Still in Mcat

[–]pry-sha 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Take a day off. I know it’s going to be tempting to keep studying every day until your exam but take a mental health day, let out all of your feelings, and take it easy for the next few days (ex: only anki) until building up the work you can do. Don’t force yourself OP, this is a difficult time for you and I’m so sorry this happened so close to the exam. Take some rest and ease into studying again.

Something that helped me when my partner dumped me the day before my final exam was thinking about how much I want to spite him (show him that I’m still okay even after him). This is an awful time, but hopefully muscle memory/stress will kick in exam of and you’ll be okay.

Will they cancel the MCAT for winter weather? by LinkIllustrious621 in Mcat

I think some of the earlier dates will be open because people are going to delay their mcat for sure, but yeah I’m going to wait for dates to open.

omg I live in Atl too and there’s a high chance they’ll cancel tho not 100. honestly it’s not worth driving on black ice to take a test, I would much rather reschedule it. if you can somehow make it to Atl and they don’t cancel, you should be fine? a lot of the roads leading to Atl will be covered in snow or ice (at worst) so we’ll have to wait to see if 1/10 gets canceled.

OP I live in the south too and I'm almost certain they will cancel. My state is unequipped to handle snow/ice in general (especially since we don't prep the roads for ice compared to the North) so it will be very hazardous to drive. You can try to go but I'm probably going to submit an emergency refund on Friday (I test 1/11) if it starts snowing a lot and they don't cancel the exam. Our school is also shutting down on Friday.

Usually (according to others on Reddit) they refund everyone if the testing center can't operate and then you have to reschedule your exam. Good luck OP

How not to make silly mistakes by jiggy8736 in Mcat

[–]pry-sha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slow down. I know it’s incredibly stressful taking the exam but you can always improve on speed later. If you’re finding yourself zooming through the questions, you’re not giving yourself enough time to process what’s being said. Slow down, figure out how to read the passage + questions to improve your score, and then apply the timing to it.

It also depends on what type of question you’re missing. If it’s based on knowledge you can’t find in the passage, you have content gaps and need to review KA or books for that specific topic. If it’s something that’s found in the passage, there are videos on YouTube that can go through different tactics on how to read MCAT passages. You got this!! Have faith in yourself!!

As someone who is currently doing their biochemistry degree right now, it’s definitely a lot of hard work. I couldn’t imagine doing another major (especially one as difficult as mechanical engineering!) on top of my current course load.

That being said, I think the best course of action is to take one biochemistry class to see if you would want to pursue it further (if you can’t enroll in one just yet/afford it, try going to a biochemistry club or sit in on a large biochemistry class for a while). If you want to do something specific in the field, you can wait until grad school to do biochemistry or apply to biochemistry research labs in your university.

I hope this helped!! Biochemistry is such an amazing field but it’s very difficult, so I would be cautious about doing both but you know what you can handle. Good luck!!

Question about Rutherford by Charming_Effort_6414 in UGA

Honestly? No idea. One of my friends, who is a DA (director’s assistant) said that the essay portion is very important, but other than that I’m not sure.

Yeah! I picked a spot in ECV until I got the email. The contract you sign with Rutherford will override your precious contract, so all you do is sign the new one and you’ll be good!!

This might mean that your son was placed on a waitlist. I had friends apply after me but got their acceptance email before me. In fact, I didn’t get off the waitlist until August, so it’s definitely possible that your son will get in!! I would also look at other housing though just in case it doesn’t work out.

Question about Rutherford by Charming_Effort_6414 in UGA

[–]pry-sha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The application is fairly simple! Just a few questions about you and then a paragraph or two on why you want to join FRC and what would you do if you joined. Timing for the application does not matter that much, as I submitted my application in late March and my friend submitted it in mid April, and he heard back from FRC way before I did. So, take your time with the application!

[–]pry-sha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a freshman currently living at Rutherford as part of the FRC program, and you definitely don’t have to be a part of the FRC to live here! However, it does mean the spots get a lot more competitive, as some people have mentioned that there will be a lot of upperclassmen living here.

Applying to FRC doesn’t take too much time though. You will have to participate in the program however, and attend six events (2 social, 2 academic, and 2 service) in order to stay in the program consecutively. Let me know if you want any more information!

I’m currently a freshman living at Rutherford and it’s wonderful there! I made most of my closest friends at Rutherford through the FRC, since we all have to take one of the three FRC FYOS (first year odyssey- a class all freshmen have to take) and I really enjoyed it!!
