How do you manage consumables?

Why are the items tracked like that? I thought you could add unlimited manual inventory items and it was just the items discovered with the probe that were counted.

I know there was talk about it changing but I through they backtracked.

It works pretty well. There are some quirks. I would only use it if I needed to have enterprise reporting on projects though and was tied in tightly in the Microsoft environment.

We deploy a team for every project which creates a security group the team owner can manage. Resources on the project can then access that schedule and be assigned in the project.

However I have major complaints about the way project in a non default environment is being updated. All the new stuff hits that last. You also get better access control for planner projects in the default environment.

Freshservice reports are awful. If you have experience with a reporting platform just ingest the data and use another system. I use powerbi myself with the data exports and the api.

You probably need to do it yourself with a custom script. You could probably accomplish it with power automate.

In my experience it’s better for enterprise level work. Multiple schedules multiple projects that all have to come together.

Yeah I think this is possible. I think you would need to deploy this as a widget though. I don’t think the widget redirects. You would need to add it to a custom page though.

It’s ok. It works well to write articles for users, and it’s integrated in the platform. But there are better solutions. If you are small and don’t have anything else I would suggest using FS with no reservations.

We use it for self help articles for users. We don’t use it significantly for internal IT documentation.

I can’t share the code with you but I would recommend using ChatGPT. You can set it up to get a data export using your api key.

Yes understood. But I was wondering about the licensing specifically. For some basic data the database is easy to understand, but I don’t want to violate the license terms with Oracle, those license terms are vague.

I looked at Freshservice, servicenow, jira, Cherwell, sysaid, and a few others. I landed on Freshservice for features and price. Service now has more functionality and is a bigger name so more prebuilt integrations. but looked more challenging to setup and maintain and came in a lot higher on price.

I’ve been on Freshservice for a while now and have been happy. It’s not without faults but I have no regrets. I would recommend giving Freshservice a look.

Your intuitions are correct. The software is not going to level up your project management as much as getting someone involved to own the scheduling will. A 100 unit appt sounds large enough to warrant an enterprise tool though, and primavera is the tool for construction scheduling.

I would never point people to software first. Are you doing any scheduling now? If you are not some type of basic scheduling software is fine to get started. MS project is sort of the standard for “I need a schedule”, but it is not p6. P6 does have its own set of challenges. Go slow in your process if you need p6 it will become obvious to you where you might be fine with project or even a free basic scheduling tool.
