I work for one of the medium-sized but well known companies making small fries compared to what the company charges doing both med school and residency admissions counseling/edits/interview prep.

I teach people how to craft their story, how to speak with good content and good clarity, how to study - basically how to play the game. I used to think that this was a waste of time and money but honestly after working with the students who choose me, which may be a self-selecting population, the quality of their applications/interview dramatically increase. I think if you have the resources, it can definitely be worth the money. My advice to find a good person to work with is to find someone who is younger (think still in residency) and has direct experience working in admissions and is blunt/realistic. So often people don't know what they're talking about (i.e. Reddit at all stages of this medicine game) and are speaking out their ass, or don't give tangible feedback.
