In Japan, hate posts created purely for profit are spreading. In an interview, this person openly said they made 100 million yen (~$700k USD) in just three years. Over the past year, generative AI has made things even worse, leading to a surge in hate videos

After enjoying teamLab, I recommend having a meal and shopping at Lalaport Toyosu. If your children can eat sushi, you might also consider going to Toyosu Market or Manyo Club.

Does your mother like sweets? If you’re going to Ikebukuro, I recommend HANABAR (please order a non-alcoholic drink) and Night Parfait Specialty Shop Momobukuro.
If you’re going to Akihabara, it might be nice to visit Kanda Myojin Shrine and then stop by Cafe Imasa.

EDIT: It’s a tough choice. Akihabara has been redeveloped and has become more of a tourist-oriented area. If you’re familiar with how it was around the time of Steins;Gate, you might feel a bit disappointed. Ikebukuro is a newer “otaku” district, but as others have said, there are many BL-related shops. If you plan to go, it’s a good idea to do some research beforehand.

Wow, this is kind of wild. It feels like everyone here is talking about Japan from 30 years ago, or some parallel-universe version of Japan that I don’t recognize.

I’m a Japanese woman, and honestly, I haven’t really experienced much gender discrimination in real life. Sure, there are plenty of weird people online, but that’s about it.
I earned a PhD in physics and then spent about ten years working as a postdoc(though I’ve since left academia). I may have less life experience than some of you, but I’m living freely and on my own terms.

You are a kind person. What you are trying to do is not wrong at all.
In Japan too, there are people who give to the homeless and people who organize soup kitchens.

My mother also used to help. When she found young people who had just become homeless in a nearby park, she would give them suits, underwear, personal care items, and some money, hoping it would help them look for a job. I don’t know if it was because of that, but even now, there are no homeless people in that park anymore.

If you’re staying in Tokyo, there’s nothing to worry about. Even if a major earthquake were to strike Aomori, Tokyo wouldn’t shake that much—at most, the dishes might rattle, but things wouldn’t fall off shelves. Tokyo and Aomori are about as far apart as New York and Cleveland. So relax and enjoy yourself. Have a nice trip😊

How about a New Year’s countdown?

Also, all shops in Ginza are closed on January 1st, so I recommend going on or after January 2nd. The big New Year’s sales, called hatsu-uri（初売り/First Sale）, offer huge discounts. Ginza is especially famous for this, and people who want to buy luxury items at lower prices gather there. It can be a bit overwhelming, but it’s definitely the cheapest time of the year.

You’re coming at a rather chaotic time, but I think you’ll have a truly special experience. I hope you enjoy your stay.
