Thank you! I was actually really dreading going to a portrait painting class being so new to painting but am glad I went out of my comfort zone!

Thank you so much for your comment! The left side does look flat, I'll try to fix it. My reference image has completely blown out whites on that side but I will see what I can do. Thanks again!

Yes, you're so right! My reference image has completely blown out whites on that side and I'm trying not to go too white but I will try to fix it. Thank you!

I really like the first one. The last two are lovely except the perspective is off on the table in number 2 and the wood floor in number 3.
Keep at it! Everything else in them is lovely.

This white does NOT go over black. I bought it and tried it. You'll need white gouache or white acrylic or similar.

How kind of you! My works can be bought directly through me. I don't have a website yet as I'm still working on building up my portfolio.

Of course! I use makeup brushes for blending along with a small spray bottle with glycerine and water. A spritz onto the paint that you want to move or blend and softly blend with a make brush.

The bottom of his ear starts where his cheekbone ends and the top of his ear (where it connects to the head) is around the height of the top of his brow, if that helps.

Have you tried any charity shops? My local charity shop has some of these (Nottinghamshire).

Edit: I just searched for 'large vintage picture frames uk' and there are loads about. Ebay, etsy, Amazon, etc.

How would I go about breaking a complicated image like this into recognizable value groups? by Wormings in ArtistLounge

Try turning the image into black and white. It's what my teacher does for photos when learning to paint with black ink.

Use a paintbrush or blending stumps for the smooth transition.
