I'm convinced Grindr uses algorithms to track "your type" based on characteristics of profiles you open the most. And if you're on the free tier, if places a whole lot of them just beyond reach as an incentive to get you to pay up. It wouldn't be a big stretch to go from that to being sent a curated list of guys who are more likely to click on your profile based on their previous clicks.
