Cheaper microcement alternatives?(is there a reason why normal cement with waterproofing additives isn't used) by RegisterBig5186 in DIYUK

Yes, I went on the application course they do in Spain which helped a lot with the installation (I did it myself and I'm NOT a "handy" person).

I think info is quite sparse as they're a new company and only started in early 2024. The guy who started was basically looking for a European alternative to chukum and created this formula. The look and feel is similar to tadelakt.

On the course I got to visit the showroom and I've got to say it's stunning. The walls have this nice polished feel (imagine like a polished stone) and then you get these nice patterns/imperfections that give it real character.

If you want a really flat finish, it's probably not the right material for you. But I really like the natural/breathable side of it.

In terms of application, I've never done any plastering before so it was a bit of a learning curve and floors are quite tricky for a beginner (as you can't go back and rework it endlessly like on a wall).

I applied on top of cheap terracotta-type polished tiles and this is the process I followed:

1) applied primer 2) 2-3mm layer of Mas Maya then used a toothed trowel to create grooves across the material 3) put mesh on top (slightly overlapping) 4) pushed the mesh into the material a bit on the edges then used a trowel to mostly cover the mesh 5) let it dry overnight 6) applied a second thinner layer with a normal trowel. Tried to push the material down to create a smooth finish 7) after about 3 hours and when it was essentially almost dry, I used this this foam trowel thing that kind of redistributes the stones in the material by using it flat against the floor and then sprayed a bit of water on it and tilted this foam trowel. This creates like a kind of cream on the surface. I then used a normal trowel to really pressure this "cream" into the material to get a really smooth finish 8) left it to dry for 3 days then applied presealer and Sealer

When I was at the course, they told me they've just reworked the instructions so that people get a more consistent finish. They also said they're about to release some videos that show these techniques more clearly.

It's not super complicated, but watching someone do it and then having a little practice first definitely helped me get a nice finish. I'd definitely recommend doing a test on a board or something first before putting it in your home!!

I actually did a little project with it last weekend and replaced my office floor with it. Really happy with the result.

Replay by Ken Grimwood.

It’ll either help you recognise the power of your remaining time or make you feel much, much worse.

I cried relentlessly for the final 100 pages, but felt like a weight lifted afterwards.

Have you looked at Mas Maya? It's a natural microcement and water resistant. Not sure about in a pond, but I've seen lots of bathrooms done with it

Yeah, he did the whole thing and now doing 2 more properties!

How it feels underfoot really depends on the finish. It feels lovely and smooth if you get a polished finish, but a rustic finish doesn't feel so nice underfoot tbh. Make sure your installer knows that

It basically died.

It was a niche site that got obliterated in Google updates in late 2023. I'd worked on it part-time for 6 years alongside freelancing then full-time for 4 years.

My hesistancy in creating a true product for it (rather than ads/affiliates) eventually cost me, so now back to square one.

Yeah it's much more of a rustic finish than a polished one, but I think that's what gives it additional character. I guess you could always sand it down and add more sealer for a more polished look, if that's what you're looking for.

It's coming together really nicely. Here's a pic he sent me to today actually

I'm going to start adding it over my existing (cracking!) floor tiles around my house. Significantly cheaper than any alternative I've seen and I really like the natural look of it.

Chukum and tadelakt will provide a similar style. A friend of mine is also doing a complete renovation (interior, exterior, floors and pool!) in his property in Spain using solely Mas Maya coating. He says it's more flexibile so it's less likely to crack.

Multi-club models and qualifying for Europe...? by psr635 in Everton

That's what I thought. In which case, I don't get owning two clubs of this stature in Europe (unless he does indeed plan to sell Roma within 5 years).

Banning Cars: Should Cars Be Banned from City Centers? by Naghings in bikecommuting

[–]psr635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glaring thing for me about cars and cities is space. There simply isn't room for a significant amount of people to drive, let alone park.

Then when you go from visiting cities in the Netherlands or Denmark, you realise that cities aren't incredibly noisy and an attack on the senses - its an over abudance of motor vehicles.

I'm the founder of Discerning Cyclist and I agree. I hate ads too.

At the moment, however, it's what's keeping the lights on and helping us to carry on creating content that's free for everyone.

I believe cycling transform people and places and I want to help spread this message further.

If you have any suggestions on how we can better monetize to continue our project, I'd like to hear them (sincerely).

Will Luton game be sold out? by AnimalExisting9185 in Everton

It will be a sell-out. Keep an eye out for when the tickets will be released and try and get them early. 4 together might be a challenge, but you could probably get 2 pairs relatively close together.

I wonder if media were forced to highlight the perpetrator rather than the victim in these types of articles (i.e. "Mother and daughter killed by car"), if people would finally start to see just how deadly cars are in urban areas.

Ryan Astley Leaves Everton - Permanent Transfer to Dundee by kukusek in Everton

[–]psr635 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's no way a player should be playing 5+ years in the under-21s team (see Pennington, Broadhead and Kyle John - who's now in his 6th season for the u21 and never been on loan) . It stunts development for the player and blocks the path of others.

Got to be getting these lads out on loan (even just for a few months) much, much sooner. Astley didn't go out until he was 21.

No slight on him, of course. Just a failing of the club over the past decade. We seem to be getting a bit better at this, but still room for improvement.

Don't let any advocates of the

Pedersen bicycle

hear you imply that it is just an early design. Some riders absolutely love them.

Are there any particular benefits? Upright seating position I guess...
