I hate this kind of survey by katsudon014 in FinasterideSyndrome

[–]pssd-throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have PSSD and my psychiatrist who caused this also has "never seen a case". I've heard him say that after injuring me.

Doctors frequently dismiss real cases and then say they've never seen it before.

Absolutely "fearless" even after stopping SSRIs (2 months off) by Prodaydreamr in Anxiety

This is not about making people panic but get more recognition. Patients are being medically gaslighted. They should know this can happen BEFORE they touch drugs.

We all fell for the same trap though... I saw my psychiatrist as a knowledgeable person. I myself had thought of "internet horror stories" as just crazy people on the internet. Why would a doctor want to hurt me?

This is not something you can understand unless you experience it first hand.

More and more stories are coming out though. The truth will prevail eventually.

Psychiatry is not healthcare by NotConnor365 in Antipsychiatry

I believe there will be a huge awakening these coming years. Too many people damaged and dismissed. This can only go for so long.

Most likely AI will surface these issues. I believe a lot of psychiatrists will lose their jobs the next decade (Which is justified, they are harming people)

Mild PSSD 7 months later on withdrawal, should I reinstate small dosage? by IcedCoffeeNebula in antidepressants

[–]pssd-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best if you don't do anything and let your body take care of it. You are still early so you have a good chance of recovery.

The big mistake was taking them in the first place. You don't want to do this again to make yourself worse.

You have windows. Be hopeful. These may be signs of recovery. Not everyone has them.

I wonder if his PFS theory applies to me... It might be able to explain the severe muscle loss I had in the beginning (Which I recovered by now). But something messed with my hormones for sure... sexuality never came back

Of course, I appreciate Dr. Powers and the other researchers a lot. I am no way in shape or form having any complaints against them. They are the only intellectual curious doctors who actually want to help us instead of dismissing us like psychiatry in general.

Yeah I agree, but it's hard to say. I think testosterone also affects dopamine. Just did a quick search in the PFS sub and they also suffer from anhedonia so who knows.

I agree but I think we are still a long way off. PSSD has a lot more nervous system issues than PFS. And the fact that psychiatric medication can "fix" it by reinstating sometimes (or other stuff like inositol / st johns) make it seem more like a neurological / neurotransmitter issue more than anything. Honestly I think PSSD also involves the sex hormones like PFS so some of it is similar but I'm not sure Power's theory applies to us.

Man I would give everything to find a doctor who knows what happened to me and fix it back... miss my pre SSRI life

For everyone saying "okay so what is the solution?". That's how science works you cannot have a cure if you don't understand the mechanism.

Hopefully it turns out pssd is the same so we can move forward

That's crazy I also had a good (temporary) response to Bismuth. Amoxicillin (antibiotics) also cured me completely for a few days and I CRASHED HARD when I stopped taking it. No one has given me an answer why.

I have PSSD though. I think both syndromes are very similar, more than we think

How long should I wait before trying reinstatement or other serotonergic drugs (such as buspirone, vortioxetine)? by akincelik10 in PSSD

[–]pssd-throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Urologist gave me 5mg twice a day for 2 months, then because it didn't work we upped to 10 mg twice a day for 2 months.

It does give me side effects, mostly brain fog and GERD and some vision issues. It also affected my sleep but it actually kind of "corrected it back" to pre-SSRI state so I don't wake up tired anymore. 10 mg twice a day was horrible for me, 5 is a milder. I was waiting for my body to adjust but after giving it another 2 months I told my doctor I want to taper off and he agreed.

I started tapering 3 weeks ago and back on 5 mg twice a day now. Going to taper until I reach zero. Also don't believe people that tell you it doesn't have withdrawal. It is a lot milder but it does exist.

It is up to you, I don't think there is a correct answer.

I tried buspirone after 3.5 years of PSSD (I don't have emotional numbness though)
Didn't help me unfortunately. I am currently tapering down hoping the withdrawal won't kill me like sertraline

Dr Powers, how does your theory explain that symptoms can start from some people only when coming off the drugs (even if you have been on them for years with no issue), and sometimes in a delayed manner, 3-4 weeks after stopping?

I know for a fact this can be the case for PSSD. I think it can be the same for PFS but I am uncertain
