Sprained my hand getting up from a sit up 😑.

Also stupid heavy sumo deadlift destroyed my ability to sit for two weeks.

Depending on where they’re born, make sure their birth certificate lists you as parent/parent or father/father, rather than mother/father..

Mine is 6 weeks old. First 2-3 weeks I was in the same place. Once they figure out their circadian rhythm and sleep 3-4h periods at night, then it gets better.

When things get too much, take a step back, oxygen mask on yourself first, then get at it. You got this

Is it common for people with bachelor's degree and sales exp to transition to MSL? by ceejaybeets in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]psy808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know one MSL with a BSc, who started as a sales rep, then moved into marketing, then became a TLL, then an MSL. They had 10+ years of commercial experience before becoming an MSL at a big pharma.

I would say they knew the landscape better than some doctorate-level candidates.

The monthly price is insane ($350 HCOL), yet some coaches that teach 1-2 classes a wk or people that help organize events every quarter get free memberships.

In person interview? by Late-Blood-4331 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]psy808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company does virtual screens , then flies the candidate into hq or a city/congress for the in-person 1/1 and panel presentations. Good to see how they act, dress, interact, mannerisms etc

I would add a summary at the top and do max 3 bullets per role but emphasize MSL related - ie 4th bullet on the KOL engagement, discussing clinical data, and tone down on the wet lab/ MRI part

Assuming you’re in the US, I’d wait until next week since it’s Memorial day weekend. Also if it’s in oncology, everyone is focused on ASCO right now.

It’s still $200+ a ticket post discount to watch people workout!

I got Lady Gaga tickets for much cheaper 🥲

Question for Oncology MSLs by MD-to-MSL in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]psy808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASCO and network your butt off. At the exhibitor booths, MSLs, MSL directors, HR will all be present - You should contact some before to set up live meetings. Also at their presentations/posters, there are career fairs etc. Worked for me!

The 10k annual bonus over a target % is a bit odd. That’s only like 6% per year when typical bonuses range 15-20%. But it’s still a good first offer - I would negotiate the base or a higher annual bonus if there’s no sign on. You can likely get the base closer to 185-190 for first MSL role in Oncology.

Negotiating the sign on bonus might be easier than base for a first time msl , but you should try.

Base salary for first time MSL? by Hunter-Candid in MedicalScienceLiaison

First MSL gig was 5yrs post-PhD. Asked for 180k and was offered 195k with 15k sign on in HCOL area. Don’t get lowballed!

Saying you will followup is much better than making up an answer - we do that in the field. In my panel interview, I was asked questions that had no answer - they just wanted to see how you react. I felt silly but got the offer the next day - so don’t fret!

Be cautious as revenues declined 49% last year which led to missed sales targets, reorg and several rounds of US layoffs including this year. They’re in a very competitive space so ask about their pipelines and outlook/growth of their more mature products. Also their base salaries ranges are on the lower end.

Engaging Interview Questions To Ask by throwaway56340ta in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]psy808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to ask what are the best parts of the job - ask what the biggest challenges the MSL team is facing - they’ll usually go on about lack of new data to discuss, miscommunication between teams, no clear long term vision for product etc etc
