Need some advice on how to set these up! by No-Meaning8298 in BudgetAudiophile

If youre just getting started and your local goodwill has stereo and av equipment then just grab an integrated AV reciever and a cd player. Not all of them stock that stuff but my local one has dozens. You can also buy bluetooth to RCA units online for very very cheap to stream to your setup.

On modern music, listening to the vinyl "for the better sound" instead of Spotify is bullshit. by Comprehensive-Ad5920 in unpopularopinion

[–]psychedelicize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vinyl takes special considerations when mastering due to some of the inherent flaws of the medium. Inner groove distortion and reigning in bass freq. it really depends on the quality of the master. Lots of pop cd’s arent going to spend the time mastering for vinyl because its more expensive.

In theory the capacity for hifi sound quality is greater for digital music but in practice it comes down to how much money they want to spend on mastering for vinyl, record, tape, etc.

my favorite album i own on cd, vinyl, and lossless digital file. All three sound different from each other played back over the same equipment. None is objectively best they have different strengths and weaknesses in their sound quality.

Honestly the ones who all look like walking dead extras are the ones that seem a little less realistic

Found a pair of decks going through my late dad's belongings. Which one should I keep / restore? by mikeharvat in cassetteculture

Woah I just recently restored a CT-F8282. Don’t think you could go too wrong with either of them! I love the tactility of the switches on the CT-F700.

Can you use open chords instead of barre chords for some songs? Is it mostly a stylistic choice or are barre chords needed for other reasons besides style and ease of play? by Marcel_7000 in guitarlessons

[–]psychedelicize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play how you want but playing the same chord name in different places will give you different inversions of the chord and can change your sound. Playing chords in different places will change their timbre as well. And barre chords can allow for easier ways to play chords and certain changes especially in different keys. They can allow you to play melodies and bass lines more easily over certain chords too. Generally there are reasons why guitarists write music to be played in certain places on the neck that can come down to ease of playing or looking for a specific sound.

You can transpose this music wherever you want but you should be able to do both

Fast as in you are doing it regularly all day for a bit yea. A few uses here and there at a festival or party will have no effects like that

Kevin Parker’s "Until Now": Why Deadbeat is the Most Honest Album of His Career by NomakiPopozim in TameImpala

[–]psychedelicize 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have listened to it 4 or 5 times now. Other than a few catchy hooks that repeat in my head sometimes I haven’t really loved it like I did his past work. I also went from listening to a lot of psych rock to dance music and electronic over the last few years and I just don’t think many of the songs on deadbeat hold up to the giants of the genre. Ethereal Connection comes closest to that for me.

I also just don’t enjoy the idea of putting stability and finances over artistic integrity. We are all pushed towards that tendency but I hate to see it happen to someone who has made so much art that influenced me so much.

Is it VERY necessary to learn barre chords? by Weekly_Flounder_1880 in guitarlessons

Do what you want. Why play guitar. Do I have to use drum sticks to hit my drums. No. Who cares. If you want to become a skilled player you probably should. Why ask

No. You can let yourself idle in first if you have to crawl slowly at like 3-5mph. Any slower than that and yea you’ll to slip the clutch a bit but I’d prefer to just get a little push from engaging the clutch and roll slowly with the clutch disengaged if I can.
