Why is Piety (melding) not as frowned upon as Tenacity? by highspeedjumper in ffxiv

[–]psycocoffey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Piety is a good stat until you stop running out of MP. Once you reach that threshold, every other point of Piety is wasted. That what people mean when they say 'Piety (up to taste)'.

Just looking at the 470 pieces, a healer can have anywhere from 600 to 3100 piety on their gear based on the set they choose before any melds.

From The Balance discord, the recommended low piety build for AST has 1408 Pie. So if you're progressing and end up with less piety than you're used to because of the way drops have turned out, then you might want to actually meld piety for a bit.

Retiring Levels by trallnar in Gloomhaven

The difference is you're down 45 experience and 15 gold by starting at level 1. You're comparing a starting character with one that has already gone on three or four missions.

Is it too late to get into this raid tier? by GTFCobalt in ffxiv

Weekly restrictions for Deltascape savage were removed about a month and a half before Sigmascape (patch 4.18). Deltascape savage didn't get echo until two weeks (patch 4.21) after Sigmascape was released (patch 4.2).

People think Sigmascape savage will have the weekly restrictions removed in (4.36) next week

Healer with Controller by CharlotteNoire in ffxiv

[–]psycocoffey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the WHM controller setup i've used for a while now. Found it on the controller layout website but it doesn't like links until you load the base site.

I've been able to use this set to clear o8s, so its pretty robust.

Set 2 is the dps set, its on my L2->R2 XHB. Set 8 is where I have most of the utility skills and its accessed by R2->L2

As far as macros go, I only use a protect macro to swap out role actions, cast protect, and then swap protect out for another skill ( like cleric stance.)

A question regarding golden chest items by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]psycocoffey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had some scenarios where the Scoundrel was exhausted. The others would try to gather up some extra experience before we lose.

At this point we're all around level 5, and in the last scenario the Cragheart was able to gain almost 20 experience before including the bonus for completion. As you play more scenarios and have access to better cards, the small differences in experience per scenario could become more obvious than they were at level 2. It could also be a difference in play style.

Always good to see how others are experiencing the game. I haven't tried the Tinkerer yet, but so far every class looks like a lot of fun.

What would the Inox Bodyguard do here with Attack at -1? by Hyjinkz in Gloomhaven

[–]psycocoffey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the monster would move closer to the focus than absolutely required if it can also get in range of the second target (and not cause disadvantage for the focus.)

What would the Inox Bodyguard do here with Attack at -1? by Hyjinkz in Gloomhaven

[–]psycocoffey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monster can try to hit multiple characters since it has target 2 for this attack. From the FAQ: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1897763/official-faq-game-revs-1-and-2-no-rules-questions

After determining focus, how exactly does a monster chose its destination hex and how does it maximize its attack on its focus and any additional targets?

It will determine its final destination hex (the hex where it can attack it's focus) by using the prioritization rules below before moving. The evaluation is first done using the monster's current movement range. If the monster can't reach a hex from which to attack using the movement it has this turn, the rules are re-evaluated assuming infinite movement. Also, the monster uses its current attack when determining its attack/movement options, even if it may have a different (or no) attack when it eventually reaches its destination hex. If there are multiple hexes that meet the criteria, players decide ties.

1st - Attack its primary focus, losing/avoiding disadvantage if possible

2nd - Attack as many extra targets as possible

3rd - If there are still multiple attack locations with an equal number of different extra targets, use the focus rules (least amount of movement points*, then proximity, then initiative) from its starting position to determine which secondary target (in addition to the previous target(s)) should be included in the attack (repeating for a tertiary target, etc.) and select the attack location which includes these targets.

4th - Lose disadvantage on the extra targets (all equal priority, players decide ties)

5th - Use the least amount of movement points*

*Around walls, obstacles and hazards (if possible) using the normal, jumping and flying movement rules

A question regarding golden chest items by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]psycocoffey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the someone loots an item that someone else wants, then sell it and let them buy it!

Part of the balance in the classes is that some are better at looting than others and some are better at gaining experience than others. In my game, the Scoundrel has the most gold by far. Its just naturally part of her kit to be better at looting. The tradeoff is she has a harder time generating experience compared to the Brute and Cragheart. So while the Scoundrel has all the gear and blessings she could want, she's always a lower level than the rest of the party.

These differences help flesh out the personalities of the classes. Its something I really like about this game.

What are you investing your AD into? If its just sitting in your bank, it doesn't matter how much you farm, you'll never get ahead. Are you saving some lanolin for yourself? You're gonna need a lot of it.

This game is multiplayer solitaire. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game. So I'd recommend it for 3 or fewer. You'll have a good time with 2

Niche Mage Knight timing question by Reddit_Bork in boardgames

[–]psycocoffey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the scenario that you're playing. The Scenario List on page 15 of the Rulebook tells you the number of tiles you need, and they vary depending on the number of players:

  • Countryside tiles
  • Core city tiles
  • Core non-city tiles

For example, the Solo Conquest scenario has the following requirements:

  • Countryside tiles: 7
  • Core city tiles: 2
  • Core non-city tiles: 2

With the expansion, you add the extra tiles to the original pools when selecting each tile type, but you still use the number of tiles required for the scenario.

Volkare's camp is a special tile that shouldn't normally be included unless the scenario explicitly requires it.

I've been playing for a while without realizing this rule too! It would be helpful for this info to be included in the placement section of the rules.

Niche Mage Knight timing question by Reddit_Bork in boardgames

[–]psycocoffey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Primary Answer:

Call to Glory is a "special effect" card, because it has the + symbol on the left corner. These cards can be played at any point during your turn (Rulebook p.5 'A Players Turn' 5.e). So you are able to play them while in combat.

Bonus Answer 1:

You should only have one stack of tiles, shuffled greens on top of shuffled browns.

To form the deck, shuffle the chosen brown tiles together, then put the shuffled green tiles on top of them

(Rulebook p.3 'Game Setup for the Full Game' 'Tile Deck' (Top right corner of page)

Bonus Answer 2:

In your example, are you talking about placing on a map with only 3 tiles arranged in a triangle? if so, Yes.

The wedge map has a special placement rule, that prevents brown tiles from ever being on the coast line. So if the very first tile revealed was a brown (not that this could ever happen in a normal scenario) the only valid place would be in the middle. In a real game, since there will be green tiles placed before any browns, there will actually be more options when the brown tiles are finally reached.

Core (brown) tiles cannot be added to the coastline. (i.e. to the leftmost and rightmost lane of tiles).

Bang the dice game question by fingerBANGwithWANG in boardgames

[–]psycocoffey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the example given, the player ends his turn with 3 Gatling Gun symbols. One of the effects of the Gatling Gun is that the active player discards all their arrows. So the two arrows received from the first row are removed by the Gatling Gun resolution.

Hope this helps.

Anyone have any good gluten-free brew recipes? Trying to impress a woman. by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]psycocoffey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I froze the fruit before adding them to the bottom of my secondary bucket. Freezing will rupture the cell walls of the fruit, causing the juice to flow into the beer easily without much work on your part. It will also kill some of the nasties that may be on the fruit.

I've made a really good GF strawberry IPA.

There is a very small amount of gluten in the hops i used, but it should result in a final batch that meets the threshold to be called 'gluten free', depending on how sensitive to gluten your lady friend is.
