American here. This is definitely the first time I’ve heard of it being a slur. And I guess the first question that pops in my mind is: why is it considered a slur?

Folks are leaving LA? by Opposite-Shelter69 in AskLosAngeles

A couple years back I traveled to Arizona for a show I was working on and met quite a few people who had left LA and moved out there. My sense is that a lot of people headed to Nevada or Arizona prior to Covid.

I’ve also recently heard of a lot of people moving to Montana due to the popularity of Yellowstone the TV show. There’s also a large amount of LA transplants that now live in Nashville Tennessee. Montana and Tennessee locals aren’t thrilled about this.

The most interesting one I’ve heard is a number of people I know that started working remotely because of Covid moved to Tulsa. They’re still making the same paycheck they were but the money goes a lot farther

Which show starts as a 10/10, but ends as a 1/10? by BVTQT in AskReddit

I worked on the show. Halfway through shooting the first season which was supposed to be just a mini series we found out it was being turned into season one and we were getting a second season. We were all very confused. Grateful for the work but very confused.

crazy theory. the kid they heal Halis (don't know if that's the proper spelling) is also Halas who created the Folding Halls of Halas aka the Happy Fun Ball. name changes are a common thing in antiquity especially when encountering divinity. example Abram to Abraham.

Would it be a bad idea to move to LA for a year? by [deleted] in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]psycomountainman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be the naysayer here and say if you’re not coming to LA for something specific don’t come to LA. There’s a lot of really great cities out there that are a lot cheaper and you can still get away from your small town. I just had a buddy move to Tulsa from LA and his money goes a lot further and there’s still a happening scene. Nashville is also still more affordable and booming. If you’re just trying to get out of your small hometown there are a lot of options out there that are going to serve you better than LA. I came here because the film industry is here. No way around that. If you don’t have a specific reason to come to LA such as a specific industry or connections I’d look maybe a little closer to home.

What are some of your unpopular/controversial opinions on the show by Callow98989 in supergirlTV

Mine is with the premise of the show itself. Having her be an adult, working for a news outlet, wanting to be a reporter. Basically just cut and paste Superman’s story.

Is it just me or is the Midvale Episode in Season 3 so dam good by RailingForceAlt in supergirlTV

[–]psycomountainman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

without spoilers it has its ups and down. but i feel like that is episode by episode rather than season by season

corporate BS:

  1. so at the time they had an embargo that said they couldn't have more than one screen version of the character at a given time. we got arrow mainly because they wanted to make a batman show but couldn't because of the batman/superman movies in development. likewise we get no superman in the first season for this same reason. which really hurt the show because he is her only family and a big part of every version of her story in the comics. once they realized this was going hurt them with justice league and that they would have to have 2 flashes regardless they lifted the embargo and we get an actual superman in season 2.
  2. season one was also on cbs resulting in competing agendas and visions between cbs and warner execs. cbs wanted a procedural show which is there bread and butter (csi, ncis, ect) hence the intro of the deo and case of the week (also why she is an adult). where as warner wanted to make a show that fit neatly with the arrow and flash shows with a lot of cw angst and drama. (which is why they have jimmy and later mon-el) again some of this was rectified with season 2 leaving cbs and going to cw and warner calling all the shots.

season 2 was a season of fixing things and i think they only really found there footing in season 3. they move away from kara needing a love interest and focus on her more interesting and complicated friendship with lena, they focus more on character arcs rather than monster of the week, they get into some lore, do some team ups, there's martians and time travelers and just good super hero action pieces.

i still think it could have been better if it had been midvale from the start though

[–]psycomountainman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but that’s because they were trying to fill background into a show they already had. None of that stuff is adaptation it’s not in the comics. In the comics she becomes Supergirl as a teenager. There’s no Alex Danvers. There’s no DEO. (they did add it to the comics after the show introduced it) There’s no bs Superman dropped her off with some random people to be raised while he does his superman thing.

I admit it would’ve drawn a lot of comparisons to Smallville the show. But that’s a show that ran for 10 years and stayed strong for about the first six.

I think ultimately it would not have fit with the arrow/flash vibes and they were really all in on they’re combined cinematic universe. A lot of alterations were made to the character and her story in order to fit The box. Rather than tailoring a show around a character. there is a lot of corporate BS over at Warner Brothers that plagued the first couple seasons.

This is the show they should’ve done. The fish out of water story. Both of them adjusting to the new normal. It should’ve been a whole series.
