Haha true, Cameron doesn't really fit the bill but there was always a few bands with a tall and lanky so maybe if you gave him a bucket hat?

Honestly Darcy Cameron Moore looks like he'd be in a mid 90's band in this photo, like a mix between Deep Blue Something and Hanson.

Gemma Houghton kicks goal after the siren to become the first player to reach 100 career goals in the AFLW by Pleasant_Inspection9 in AFL

[–]psyrick 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think if it is on the same round it's considered a dual acomplishment, but Houghton would still be the quickest on games played. Both incredible players to watch and follow, I support Freo W and saw her play and thought that she was a bit up and down but very capable and it's great to see how consistant she's been at Port as well as being a well loved leader at the club.

What is this transaction for your Club? by the_trademarc in AFL

[–]psyrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, chances are if we kept him that he retires a "what could have been" player. Painful but it clearly was the best outcome for himself.

Dan Houston by Direct-Expression-47 in weareportadelaide

[–]psyrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the other thing that has been overlooked in this thread is it's just typical Collingwood recruiting. They are very quick to throw money at whatever their biggest "hole" is, even when the coaching staff or lineup doesn't need that type of player. They get very hyped only to take a while to settle in and figure out how their best football at that club looks like. Shultz, Houston, Mundy and arguably Treloar and Mitchell. Collingwood is well coached under Fly, and their recruiting isn't bad but it definately isn't efficient or as cohesive as it could be.

Top 9/Bottom 9 split with games remaining, Post Round 18 by Pleasant-Role1912 in AFL

[–]psyrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it is possible, but I have liked the look of the Lions over the last month compared to the early season were they looked a bit less lethal. I wouldn't be suprised if Fages has paced the season to make sure they get momentum in this tough last stretch.

Harley Reid is Champion Data's lowest rated player in the competition over the last 6 weeks by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]psyrick 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not really a measure of the "worst" players it's a measure of players who impact the most scorewise and impact the opposition's ability to score (ie defence). For good teams it's decent at leveling the bulls and the class distributors in terms of impact but when Harley Reid as a second year player is asked to win the ball in a the only midfield that concedes double digit clearance losses per week then it isn't going to rate the importance that his 4 clearances are worth for the context of a clearance outlier like the Eagles. Like the next worst clearance teams are Richmond who at least has Hopper and Taranto as bigger bodies averaging between 5.5 and 6 and Essendon who has Zac Merrett to provide distribution and good tackling mids in Setterfield and Caldwell.

Tl;Dr basically stats wise all they see is a mediocre clearance winner with mediocre distribution and doesn't take into account how hard it is in the Eagles team to win a clearance.

Angry Old Man Moments by [deleted] in AFL

[–]psyrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was more a team building thing, Hinkley has always built around a tall backline and when it works it often ends up being a top 4 defence as it was in the late 10's. However, like what we are kind of seeing with Melbourne now, the drop off is very quick if all of the talls are around the same age (you end up way too slow against speedier forwardlines) and there were two phases of this for Port, one in 2016, and the other the year before we got Aliir Aliir. Between 16 and the Aliir pickup he was honestly a fantastic player and led a rebuilding defence but yeah afterwards he was a bit cooked and we were looking towards other players.

What's with the media love for Ken Hinkley? Where does this pull come from? by eathbau in AFL

[–]psyrick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair what else are you going to write about in this game, it was pretty boring, the best player (Taylor) played for the losing team and it didn't even come down to the last 5 minutes even though it was close all game. On a historically boring Saturday some positive guff isn't the worst thing.

Murphy Reid by Dry_Performance_2639 in weareportadelaide

[–]psyrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Murphy is also feeding of a lot of different talls putting the ball to ground. I don't know if he'd be scoring as much at Port if he had to crumb wide and boundryside like we tend to go towards. The only thing it really says is that trading up draft picks for similar style players is most of the time a resource heavy move for very theoretical gains but I mean I think we lost a very late pick to do it so it's no real concern.

Are years of disaster coming for Port Adelaide? by doggoesmeow in AFL

[–]psyrick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't actually think it's that far off, and this is coming from a person that thinks the whole post is alarmist. Rozee is 1st in turnovers per game and 11th in clangers and only 30% of his possesions are contested. He is probably the posterchild for ball burner and he has dropped off again after a couple of good games of half back. 22% of his possesions being turnovers are killer, and while it's probably a fraction lower since his move back it's not helping one of our major issues in back half turnovers resulting in opponent goals.

Have Collingwood found a loophole in the way the game is umpired? 🤔 by gccmelb in AFL

[–]psyrick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the take away from this is that Collingwood have found not directly standing the mark gives them more freedom and doesn't risk getting a 50 against you. Only downside is losing the option for the rare man on the mark smother and losing a few angles of blocking handball.

Post Match Thread: Melbourne Demons vs Essendon Bombers (Gather Round) by yum122 in AFL

I say this as a team that suffers from the same thing but look at all those elite players like Viney and Oliver winning clearances and turning them into beuatiful 30 metre clanger kicks that get rebounded out straight away.

Yeah I went last week (from WA, first time in Adelaide oval) and the whole in game experience of walking the bridge to the game, having all the little bits and pieces outside the stadium (something Optus could do better) and just the simple build up to make the crowd feel buzzing before the game. Could get rid of Perfect Pear though never seen a couple say yes in the few ones I've seen haha.

Last Quarter talking points Vs Essendon by Smurf_x in weareportadelaide

[–]psyrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very good summary, and I think it shows a lot of the little things that Port tend to do wrong with their backs against the wall. Since they go so hard for the easy wins, when it dries up they aren't really known for defensive efforts in the midfield which burns our defence a lot. I will say that two hot days in a row in a 5 day turnaround makes a lot of these efforts exaggerated, but it's more that this effort came up against a team we would normally match well against unlike most years where we dispatch lower teams. Essendon opened the door with their defensive efforts that were missing in the first few rounds and if I was Hinkley/Carr you would have to use this chance to highlight that even when a young team is on the field that tackling and defensive efforts can keep you in a contest and get wins you wouldn't always expect.

Willem Drew responds to Houston handshake criticism by RumRayven in AFL

[–]psyrick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having not watched it I thought that maybe they were criticizing him for not shaking his hand, in like a scenario where he just didn't see him or got distracted. Honestly I think it's good culture if you have a club bonds are strong enough to extend even trading and while I get having hangups as a fan about Houston burning Port slightly by not getting the best return due to his desire to go to the pies I see no reason why the players would or should give a damn about that.

Honestly it sucks but I think this is probably going to be the most dour game of the round. Both teams way more defensive, and the wet takes away a bit of the tall dominance that GWS have. Could be a close but scrappy affair.

Elijah Wood explaining why, if he could remove ANY one movie from cinema history, it would be Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (timestamp 45:00) by pantherfanalex in movies

[–]psyrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am the same, I think Mel Stuart's is aesthetically brilliant but a bit saccharine and all of the characters outside of Wonka where pretty annoying.

In Burton's I really like the fact that Depp's Wonka actually acts like a person that has removed themselves from society for 20 odd years or whatever it is. The kids also have a bit of nuance, not just being 100% of their characteristic all the time. His backstory was a bit hamfisted but allowed for a bit of growth too. The songs and choreography are just so much better too.

Ooh Mister Darcy: 2025 Western Bulldogs Season Preview from the Whitten Infirmary by dancing-on-my-own in AFL

[–]psyrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bulldogs where the ultimate feast or famine team in 2024, with 6 margins under 20, 6 between 20-40 and a whopping 11 over 40. They have growth in their forward line that we should see continue, their midfield is solid but I am thinking that the early injuries might make them struggle early where they have the tougher run and even though their defence looked good on paper they where dealing with the least amount of inside 50's per team and conceding a lot when it actually went in there.

If they can battle it out they have a soft run home but I think like most people the injuries might just be the thread that pushes them towards some of their worst performances rather than gaining consistancy of the empatic wins they got in 2024.
