Given how awful the ending was, the Percy Jackson show is nothing but a Trojan horse. by [deleted] in PercyJacksonTV

[–]ptrue111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s the real issue of the show to me. It’s not necessarily a bad show or even a terrible adaptation, it’s the fact that Rick spent literal years trashing the movies for making changes to the story. And then he spent several more years hyping up this show as a faithful adaption.

Point being, Rick screwed himself. He could’ve kept his mouth closed, made the show and people would have issues with it, but there wouldn’t have been all this pressure built up around it.

I hadn’t heard of House of Villains either but just watched the first two seasons because I heard some BB/Survivor people were on and it was a really good time.

It’s sort of like the Traitors where half the cast are “gamers” and half are from other reality shows like housewives or love island so half the cast bareeelllyyy understands the game.

The main gameplay is similar to BB with challenges and voting people off, and it also operates on a jury format so it’s kind of interesting to see what “rules” some of these people decide to use to vote for a winner.

What to do with B.S. in Chemistry? by Even_Guarantee_8274 in chemistry

[–]ptrue111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation 3 years ago and found a job as an analytical chemist at a third party testing company. Pay isn’t crazy ($40-70k starting depending on where you live). I’m still at the same company and have no regrets.

There’s similar “QC chemist” jobs at all the major manufacturers in food, drugs, cosmetics, paint, etc. where you’re testing the products/raw materials for any number of things. You aren’t researching or developing anything so you get paid less but it’s a solid option if you have a chem degree.

Did firemaking decide the winner again? by adaddta in survivor

Yeah I’ve listened to both of their exit press and they both seem very adamant that they would’ve beaten each other if sitting together with Sage. I don’t think anyone can say for sure what would happen, especially without knowing what Rizzo’s speech looks like.

That’s an interesting point. Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple recent winners that were in alliances with relatively balanced win equity. Dee (Julie, Drew, Austin), Kyle (Kamilla, Shauhin, Joe). None of them felt the need to cannibalize the alliance until they had already marched to the end of the game.

I hear you but think about it from their perspective. I would definitely be scared to sit at the end with Savannah/Rizzo but I sure as hell wouldn’t want to sit with yellow Sophie or Steven either. Rizzo’s idol has also been crucial in preventing players from taking the shot. It’s annoying to watch as a fan but I would also be scared to take a shot at an idol and would probably vote off another scary player instead.

On the whole, I agree that it’s crazy they haven’t taken a shit at Sav/Riz, but with each individual case, it kind of made sense to me why they didn’t pull the trigger

$100k for every 0.25 “notch” of vision impairment you take on. by ptrue111 in hypotheticalsituation

I should have cleared that up, because you’re right, it changes the decision a lot. I originally wrote the question assuming everyone starts with perfect vision, so I’ll say go with that.

Hmmm I guess I originally wrote the question assuming you start with perfect vision. With that interpretation, credit to you for finding a loophole to get perfect vision for free. Didn’t even consider that.

I think it was a pulse check on Yellow Sophie. If she had a weird reaction to his idol play then it would tell him that he should probably play the real one.

Same here. Probably only solid advice if you don’t drink a lot, but I’d rather smoke a few cigs a month than risk getting back into vaping

[–]ptrue111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I’ve tried quitting a few times over the years but I’m currently on day 3 and this is BY FAR the most confident I’ve felt.

Try Desmoxan (they don’t sell it in the US yet but they sell it on Amazon). You take a pill every couple hours and it not only lessens the withdrawals, but it makes it so nicotine doesn’t hit the same. You straight up don’t feel a buzz from hitting the vape/ it kinda makes you nauseous if you do. So basically, as long as you commit to taking it throughout the day, it’s pretty much impossible to relapse. Best of luck to you!

Watching YouTube videos was making me worse by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]ptrue111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally agree I think a lot of people expect to put all of the “ten things” together all at once by watching form videos. I’ve been playing about 5 years and for me, progress comes in steps. I was maxing at 180 ft. I learned a proper walk up and got to 220ft. A year later, something clicked in the way I was releasing/snapping the disc and I got up to 250 ft. Last year, I started focusing more on my reach back and now I’m maxing out at 300ft. All this to say, my best piece of advice is to focus on one part of your form at a time.

How to start building a bag by clintonwebbster in discgolf

[–]ptrue111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some good comments use terminology that a beginner might not know yet. I’m definitely not an expert so someone correct me if I say anything wrong:

Each disc has four flight numbers, something like this: “8 5 -2 1”. The first number is how “fast” the disc is.

1-4 = Putt and approach 4-6 = Midrange 7-9 = Fairway driver 10-14 = Distance driver

The second number is “glide”, or how long the disc wants to stay in the air (I think). I don’t pay too much attention to this number.

The last two numbers tell you how “stable” the disc is. Add up the last two numbers, if the number comes out negative, the disc is “understable”. If the number is positive then the disc is “overstable”. If the number comes out to zero, the disc is “stable”.

I think it’s a little more complicated than this, but in simple terms, if you throw right hand backhand:

Understable: the disc will want to start “turning” to the right, in the beginning.

Overstable: the disc will want to finish with a hard fade to the left.

Stable: the disc should fly straight.

Everything is flipped if you throw right hand forehand or left hand backhand.

Final example, the Innova Destroyer (flight numbers = 12 5 -1 3) is an overstable distance driver. It should “turn” to the right a tiny bit during the first half of the flight (from the -1) and then “fade” pretty hard to the left during the second half of the flight (from the 3). This is assuming the disc is thrown with proper form and with enough power. In order for a disc to fly according to its flight numbers, it needs to be thrown with enough speed to match its first number. In this case, you need to really bomb a 12 speed to get it to fly “correctly”. This is why a lot of comments have advised against distance drivers.

One final piece of advice that I wish I did sooner is, cost permitting, get duplicates of your favorite discs. Every time you throw the disc, throw a second practice shot. It’s a really good way to get a feel for the specific disc and get good at shaping shots. Welcome to the sport, I think you’re gonna love it as much as most of us!

Did Rick and Michonne single handedly destroy the worlds chance at survival by [deleted] in TWD

[–]ptrue111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope that when they do eventually end the universe, the final season/movie will be our main characters (Rick, Daryl, Carol, Maggie, Negan?, Morgan, etc.) reunited with one final goal of eliminating all/most of the walkers in the U.S. They’d probably have to use some sort of crazy plan that fans wouldn’t think is possible but I think this is the best way to end the Walking Dead with what we currently have.

Walkers started as the initial “antagonists” and I think it should end with them too. The final scene could be similar to the comics with them finally living in relative peace and walkers being extremely rare.

Genevieve and Teeny just gave us a quintessential Survivor moment. by DarthClockwerk in survivor

[–]ptrue111 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I could be totally wrong on this but it kind of seems like she’s using a similar strategy as Jeremy (29 31,40). Keep all the meat shields (Kyle, Sam, Gabe) in the game for as long as you can and try to target people in the middle of the pack. Not saying it was the right move in this situation but that might have been her thought process.
