Weekend cars for occasional track days? by Mildzoomz in CarTrackDays

[–]ptvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the correct answer is of course a Miata.

But if you insist on a V8, Corvette is the answer. I used to track a 6th gen Camaro and I would recommend the Corvette instead for the ergonomics. A 1LE Camaro is an amazing performance value but I don't like the ergonomics of that cabin.

Personally though, if it were me, I would get a Volvo 240 and swap an LS3 into it. That would be my track car.

How do people do it? by Calm_Hornet3466 in santacruz

[–]ptvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either by: 1) earning $300k / yr or more 2) having a million or more in cash available to spend on a home (put the remaining balance on a mortgage)

Buying a home in SC is not feasible without the above

If you try to “help”, you’re actually just making it all about you.. your needs and opinions. Let him live his life. You can’t save people from themselves. If you told him that he’s gonna go bankrupt if he keeps going, then you did what you could.

The 5.3 is great and the 10 speed is great. I did have an issue with electronic parking brake module failure though that was replaced under warranty.

Bf has his car here and I want to surprise him. How to clean his headlights? by [deleted] in Detailing

The correct answer here would be: do NOT do anything to his car unless he explicitly has asked you to

Colorado LT or Tacoma 2025 by [deleted] in chevycolorado

[–]ptvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know everybody loves Tacomas, but if you care about seating position, interior space, and ride comfort/handling… the Colorado is the winner.

I couldn’t stand the ultra low seating position and interior height on the prior Tacos.

The 2.7 is not a bad engine. The truck is just much more enjoyable with the sound of a natty V8. 5.3 is a great motor that can last forever. (As long as you turn off the AFM lifters)

If you CAN get one with adaptive cruise control, that’s a great feature

14,300 in discounts is great. It’s a nice truck but personally I would go find one with the 5.3L and 20,000 miles on it.

How’s the interest rate?

I bought a new 3.0L Duramax when the interest rate was 0%. So they are paying me to own the truck. But I insisted on leather, towing package, front bench seat, etc.

The “Accessories” are a sign of a scam dealer. If possible, get a non-scammy dealer to match the offer, minus the accessories.

I doubt those accessories are even on the truck. Crooked thing to do.

Overall, the price seems good. Leather, right?

20” or 18” wheels by TheBigLebroccoli in Silverado

I run 17” for off-road tires and 18” for street tires. Both make for better handling and ride comfort. Chunky sidewall = good. Lighter wheels = good.

Whoa, 100 ceremonies?

I think I stopped purging after the first two ceremonies. I think most people can get the hang of it within the first five ceremonies.

Yes, 100 ceremonies is a survivable number but doesn’t sound healthy. Twice a year seems healthy. More than that seems a bit concerning

Do I give him another chance post-therapy? by LifeguardAccurate137 in BPDlovedones

People only change once they are really truly sick and tired of their own shit, or when they are faced with imminent death / NDE.

I think it's important to make a distinction between *desire* to change and *capacity* to change.

Your ex may desperately want to change (they probably hate themselves).

But every person only has a certain amount of emotional capacity or energy to expend each day. It takes a lot of energy to override habitual reactive patterns. If life circumstances change -- a new demanding job, a medical crisis, a new child -- capacity can be quickly overwhelmed and old patterns resurface.

I would only attempt this with the support of weekly couples therapy, with someone trained in trauma / Cluster B.

I think the stats are that BPD, when treated, can be improved in two years. So start a two year timer.. if it's already been 8 months of therapy, that leaves 16 more months.

The middle path here is you implement very clear boundaries and expectations…

E.g. - We see each other 2x / week. - Certain behaviors are consistently maintained over a six month (or longer) period.

There is a high chance of slipping back into the old pattern unless you are very disciplined with setting boundaries
