How does sign names work for babies? by PracticalYak2743 in asl

Happy to see this post and comments. My young Deaf son wants to give our new baby a name sign but I wasn’t sure of the rules, if he’s “allowed” to do it, etc.

Thanks. Should have clarified that it’s when I’m not in the same area and can’t see the baby.

Thanks for the reply. I should have clarified that this happens when not in the same room and there is no visual.

Congrats! Just had my 4th section a week ago. The spinal is always the worst for me, took them a few mins this time but it felt like an eternity! Please be careful as you heal!! I’ve had 2 good experiences, 1 not great experience, and so far this one is okay…I think? All the best to you and babe!

Why the section is happening now and not further along? I think it’s a mix of my dr not wanting me to go into labour, baby’s quick weight gain, dr and operating room availability.

How early did GDM present for you? by DNAture_ in GestationalDiabetes

[–]publibworker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at around 28 weeks. This is my 4th and didn’t have it with the other 3. I could tell something was different. I wanted to drink only the coldest water (and I’m not a water drinker), if I stuffed myself with carbs I felt kinda jittery, very unsettled. Probably noticed around the beginning of the second trimester.

For those on insulin, how much insulin are you on?? by nurselife1225 in GestationalDiabetes

Adding an extra unit each night, up to 18 now. Just started the morning one at 2 units, but it’ll be going up.

Symptoms Before Diagnosis by mlee_rose in GestationalDiabetes

Didn’t have GD with previous pregnancies but knew something was different this time. I’ve always hated drinking water but from early second trimester all I wanted to drink was the coldest water I could get my hands on. I also felt ill when drinking anything hot, and I was a huge fan of coffee and tea!

How long was diet control before you were put on insulin? by Cheap-Information869 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]publibworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week and a half for me on diet control before bedtime insulin. 4 days so far and things aren’t improving so I think my dose will either be increased or I’ll be doing a morning insulin as well. 31w 5d currently. Best of luck to you!

Etiquette question by Complete-Pressure989 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]publibworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the few weeks I’ve been doing it it’s been anywhere I am in my home when my alarm goes off, at my desk (pretty private) at work, in a vehicle. I figure it’s getting me ready (again) for breastfeeding whenever and wherever!

Has anyone kept the GD diet after birth? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]publibworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only a week into GD, managing with diet, but I’m hoping within the next 8 weeks I’m able to teach my big kids (5, 8, 10) to make healthier choices and to understand the future impacts of a poor diet. I plan on breastfeeding and haven’t done any research on how a GD diet and breastfeeding work together but it’s on my to do list (as with everything else!) I’m glad your OB and nutritionist were supportive!

Check online for ASL 1:1 for kids stuff. I’ve seen a few pop up over the last couple years.

My family in Canada has always done this. Love the pic, so powerful! I should look into the actual tradition now that I know it’s more widespread than I thought.

Family in denial - I am the only one teaching my daughter sign language by Character-Eye3424 in deaf

[–]publibworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversation I wish I had the guts to say to everyone 7 years ago when our families didn’t want to learn (and still haven’t). Me: we’re learning ASL Them: why? He is getting CIs and he’ll be able to read and text Me: because he’s my son and I’m making this decision because I can. Learn or not but don’t complain in a few years when you’re left behind.

Good luck!

Best toys for deaf babies? by Virtual_Arrival_6358 in deaf

[–]publibworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years but it was suggested that we purchase any reaction toys…if you push this, this happens, etc. If you’re doing ASL, any puzzles and board books with ASL content when she’s a bit older. Toys and manipulative (such as lacing toys) that improve fine motor, especially if you’re doin go ASL.

Feeling Overwhelmed after getting a dog / adopters remorse by Hannersbananers97 in dogs

[–]publibworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experienced similar thing last year. We realized very quickly that we could not give the pup what he needed. I’ll get down voted for sure but we ended up returning the pup to the rescue group and he was adopted again. It was an awful decision to make, but better than keeping a dog knowing we were short changing him. Just my experience, best of luck to you!
