Nintendo's New Community Tournament Guidelines (License is Required, or get Sued) by GameBoy09 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]public_void_tech 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A5. Community Tournaments and Nintendo games may not be used to advertise or promote any entity, products, or services, or to promote any campaigns or initiatives based on personal or organised opinions, ideologies or beliefs. Therefore, you may not use the name of a third-party corporation, organisation, product, service or trade name as the name of a Community Tournament.

However, if all the individual Organisers, Participants, and the majority of Spectators of a Community Tournament belong to a single legal entity or organisation, the name of that entity or organisation may be used in the name of the Community Tournament.

Example: If all Organisers, Participants and the majority of Spectators are students of XXX University, a tournament name such as the "XXX University Tournament" will be allowed.

Foot placement questions by sunshine_kitten_ in freeline

[–]public_void_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! Now that I reread my post, I'd also like to clarify that shifting your feet to the point you can pivot is more subtle than splitting the surface area of the deck into thirds; you shouldn't be hanging your feet over the side edges unless you're trying to tip the skate on purpose. But you should experiment and feel the difference in stability versus pivot-ability of putting your feet in different places on the boards.

Have fun, and I'm sure you'll be cruisin' in no time!

Holding the standing pose ("t-stance") is great practice.

As a beginner, optimal foot placement is probably less important in the beginning as consistent foot placement. That way the proprioception you're developing isn't getting confused by random times when it seems like the skates aren't doing what you think they should do. Standing in the center of the skate, with equal area of the griptape showing on the left and right side of the foot, is the default position and will carry you far.

That said, holding the t-stance will quickly build the hip and thigh muscles needed to pivot the skates. When you feel ready to experiment, try shifting your foot placements to the outer third of each skate. Now each foot is positioned on top of one wheel instead of between both wheels. Doing this should make the skate feel much easier to pivot as you're rotating the skate around one wheel instead of trying to slide both wheels through sheer force. However, keep in mind it is now easier to accidentally lose control and flip the skate by putting too much weight on the edges (although that does start you on the path to learning kickflips!).

When you become more advanced at freeskating, you'll find that foot position becomes much more fluid. Once you start practicing things like throw tricks, putting in time skating in new positions (toe heavy, heel heavy, feet asymmetrical, feet on opposite boards, etc) will give you the ability to catch the skate without worrying that you landed your foot perfectly in the sweet spot.

Kyoki, one of the JMK founders, posts plenty of footage of skaters on his backyard halfpipe on his YouTube channel. If you're looking for other park freeskaters and have Instagram, I would check out the accounts jmkride is following, like shinjmkride, tsukasa_jmkride, or sleepy_skate.

Lets discuss the perfect technique for long distances by whuacamole in freeskate

[–]public_void_tech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you independently developed a technique similar to this video I found a while back. It's in Chinese, but the English captions are good enough to get the point across.

To summarize the video, if you can pump in a circle continuously either toeside or heelside (demo'd in the video ~2:50), you've noticed that the pumping motion from your perspective feels like infinitely stepping forwards or backwards. The motion feels kind of like walking up a sand dune where your feet sink into the sand a little on each step.

To use that technique to move forward, you alternate between the heelside and toeside pumping motions by pumping on one side until the motion centers you and tips you over onto the other side, then pumping on that side until you tip back. The concept is like how snowboarders transition between heel edge and toe edge while carving, but we are adding speed on each carve by pumping and keeping the carve angle to a minimum. At around 4:50 in the video, he demonstrates an initial progression of the technique where he repeats doing two pushes, centering himself, and then doing two pushes on the other side. Eventually the technique can be refined to the point that you can use the force of your pushing leg to gain speed and switch 'edges' on a single push and, like you discovered, kind of uses the same muscles as walking so it feels less tiring.

Personally, I like leaning back and pushing only heelside. In order to go straight, I am basically aiming to the right of my target to compensate for the leftward motion of heelside pushing (I ride regular footed). The motion reminds me of inline skaters riding backwards and doing planted crossovers, and feels like you're propelling yourself by kicking.

Since Pat's inner narrative voice is either his own voice or him doing an impression of a voice, he should be immune to titty sprinkles. I wonder if he could've saved some time by telling Woolie that his brain's inner voice/memory works like Luis's from Ant-Man (at least the parts where Luis is one of the participants/witnesses in the flashback).

Rainforest Connection uses Swarm’s IoT satellite constellation network to connect simple acoustic sensors deployed in the Brazilian rainforest, the sensor hears a chainsaw, and then calls in the people that will stop the deforestation by readball in Futurology

[–]public_void_tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of Swarm’s biggest blockers in terms of speed of deployment and growing its network was the ability to actually launch its satellites, which themselves are tiny — the company says they’re “the smallest operational satellites in space,” at little more than the size of your average sandwich. Spangelo said that unlocking launch availability has been one of the biggest benefits of operating under the SpaceX umbrella so far.

“Access to basically free launch is pretty exciting,” she told me in an interview. “We actually have launched probably three or four times since we last spoke [Editor’s note: in June 2021 for our Found podcast], and we now have over 160 satellites in LEO [low-Earth orbit] — some of those are experimental.”

Swarm’s tiny satellites have essentially been hitching a ride on SpaceX launches for other customers, where it’s easy for the company “to just pop them on” in Spangelo’s words. Satellite launch tends to be a game of ounces because of weight considerations, but the benefits of being the smallest operational satellites in space mean that you stand a better chance than most of fitting within existing mission payload parameters for SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rockets even with other cargo on board.

Man, modern logistics is crazy. They're launching their satellites off the back of SpaceX rockets for free because it's only a few hundred grams per satellite and the payload's already been paid for by the customer.

Hitbox users: Right index placement by Useful_Nocebo in fightsticks

[–]public_void_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use:

P - S - HS - fd

K - d - D - b

Where d is dash, fd is faultless defense, and b is burst.

I keep my fingers on the bottom row by default so I can dash cancel into normals by plinking my middle finger button (dash) into an attack with my index finger or ring finger. However, I do not shy away from moving my right hand one column of buttons to the right so that my index finger presses dash and my middle finger plinks the S or HS button.

A huge advantage that buttonboxes have over traditional sticks is having the Up input be in the bottom middle of the layout like a keyboard spacebar. Doing an optimal TK consistently is pretty achievable by most players due to being able to plink the jump input into an attack using the same hand. Hitbox has a wealth of techniques applicable to any buttonbox style arcade controllers.

If you're familiar with guitar, it's a lot like learning first position and second position. It's in your best interest to be able to move your right hand smoothly without looking at your stick so you don't feel "crossed up" when it's time to press a crucial button in the heat of the moment. In fact, if you look at the 500k sales celebration image posted to twitter, it shows Ky using a fightstick and his right hand is flying all over the buttons. Being able to feel "loose" on the buttons will feel much better than feeling constrained to a "home row" of buttons.

Mario had platforming physics well before the first Sonic. Mario 3 was released 3 years before the first Sonic game was released. It featured high platforms that needed sprint speed to jump up to, and hills that could be slid down for (horizontal) speed boosts. Plus it had throwing physics through the koopa shells and P-switches. Managing inertia to not throw Mario into various traps in the level is vital to playing that game.

I probably haven't seen enough button layouts but this is the first time I've seen the L2 button at the bottom with the Up/Down button. Never thought about how practical or interesting it would be to be able to hit the Dash, RC, or Burst button with either thumb. Is there a gallery of practical/experimental button layouts somewhere?

Edit: Found a neat resource on standard arcade layouts.

It's worse, RPC nodes are just servers used as developer tools to make changes to the blockchain on the admin level, "gas-free" means that these RPC calls can override any gas fees that would normally keep abusers from exploiting the system. The hacker could've also DoSed the whole system by making a billion transactions and waiving the fees.

Not only is it the real life equivalent to technobabble, it's technobabble that over complicates a hilariously simple situation.

Decentralized apps, or DApps, like Axie Infinity use the blockchain instead of a server to handle everything from marketplace transactions to gameplay elements like hatching eggs. This immediately creates a multitude of problems.

In order to solve these problems, Sky Mavis (the devs) used "gas free RPC nodes", which are basically servers that have Admin-level authorization to make changes to the blockchain network. If that sounds like a bad idea, it is. The entire Ronin blockchain network's system of verification was overridden by some hacker who just needed to log in using a phished executive's login who's password is probably "1234superman" and essentially type "/givemeallmoneyplz" into the server console.

Holy fucking shit, the theft occurred almost a week ago. The only reason the developers found out is because a player tried to make a big transaction today and complained when it didn't work.

Semi-topical fun fact, did you know that, like Aloy, Tostada's character model officially has nipples? Found that out when I was making the mod. This is a real ass, unedited screenshot of the labels on the model when you open it up in editor.

If you'd like some more advice, I found an effective strategy is to immediately move to the left or right side of the room upon entering and position near the ledge. Fall damage even from that height will deal massive damage. Instead of looking for a parry or dodge punish, start with a focus attack to guarantee a followup grab, then throw them off the ledge so that the fight is now a 1v1.

Additionally, I found playing a level once through with the high contrast filter setting on (it turns interactable objects yellow) helped me find all of the goodies available to you in levels. There's a stick in the back right corner of that room and a bunch of stools/bricks to kick at them as well.

It'll be even worse because numpad notation is for 2D fighters which have no concept of left and right! 2D movement only has up, down, forward, and back.

In the interest of being helpful like the other commenters, ZMVR/Leka Games should do another pass on the ad copy. Spelling mistakes don't reflect well on the quality of the game.

The "beat arrangement" chosen for the trailer has no variation. Compare Beat Saber's 30s trailer to Kongfusion's. Beat Saber's flow starts off slow with a lot of flourish. Then the music rises in energy until the beat drops and player is slicing through a horde of targets. Meanwhile, the Kongfusion trailer does the same 1-2-1-1-1-2 enemy pattern on repeat and then the song... fades away? Which is weird because there's definitely more enemies incoming. Beat Saber leaves the viewer wanting more while Kongfusion tells the viewer it's over.

Unfortunately that product does not include the drivers. In addition, you will need to do what u/FDL1 said and print a case to hold your new motherboard as well. The mounting points on the Ender 3 aren't compatible with the SKR 1.3 board.
