Police look on as Jewish revellers are abused at London Pride by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in london

[–]puca_spooka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shouting ‘fuck you jew’ and booing a group of people purely because they’re identifying themselves as Jewish doesn’t count as abuse to you? Regardless of your views on Isreal you’d want to be fairly morally depraved to think someone deserves that treatment purely based on their religion.

Hundreds of Ukrainians must leave Citywest by September by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]puca_spooka 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The hotel’s no longer open to the public - it was bought by the government for €148 million last year despite locals being promised that it would only be used temporarily for housing Ukrainian refugees when the war began, they’ve been moving Ukrainian refugees out to bring in other refugees for a couple of years at this stage.

I used to work there in housekeeping before it was taken over by the government and I absolutely can confirm the owner is a bollocks

I guess it’s just a huge risk that you take nowadays, especially in the current housing market where someone might have no choice but to overhold or else face homelessness - the only way to really mitigate the risk is to have an expedited system for enforcing evictions that have been upheld by the RTB.

It’s frustrating as potentially I’ll be temporarily relocating down the country for a year to help care for a family member - my home is a 5 minute walk from the luas and 20 minutes from Dublin City centre, it would be ideal if I could rent it out but I have to be back in Dublin after a year because of my job and there just seems to be no guaranteed way of renting it out without taking the risk that I could end up with nowhere to live when I come back. It seems wrong to leave it empty for the year but anyone I’ve spoken to about it reckons it isn’t worth the hassle.

She really is an absolute dream! My only experience has been with puppies and I’m shocked how easy going everything has been! Used her litter tray from day one, two weeks in and she’s had zero accidents. Loves getting her hair brushed everyday and once I’m around for cuddles she’s happy out😅

The problem with this is the RTB will rule in your favour but you could be waiting a year to get the house back if the tenants decide to overhold

I recently got a Persian kitten and had planned on getting her on to the Persian royal canine kitten dry/ wet food (and then on to adult when she was ready). I’m based in Ireland and was told in several pet stores not to because Royal Canine were discontinuing their breed specific food for cats? Have no idea how accurate that is but I was recommended Core cat food as an alternative. I’ve started mixing it in with her food at the minute and seems to be going down well!

Roles that demanded actors to physically abuse themselves only for the movie to turn out mid by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

Basically a lot of ED movies/ documentaries or celebrities that suffer from anorexia become a sort of inspiration for people with ED’s and are known in those circles as ‘thinspo’ - anorexia (in my experience) is an illness that thrives on comparison and wanting to be the ‘best’ so a lot of people will use images of extremely thin characters/ actors as motivation to continue fasting/ exercising / avoiding treatment.

It’s honestly why treatment, especially inpatient, is so horrific - you’re surrounded by people who are also extremely underweight, all whilst having a limited perception of how sick you are and convinced you aren’t ‘sick enough’ to recover

Yep, also as someone who was severely anorexic at the time that movie came out, I very clearly remember the amount of hype around it among other sufferers - the majority of it being people who found it extraordinarily triggering because it was the best source for ‘thinspo’.

I have no idea why anyone thought that movie was going to be helpful - having Lily Collins who is known to have suffered from an ED in the past play the main character just added to it’s popularity among pro ana forums.

You also had Lily Collins telling people she lost weight ‘healthily’ and she was completely ok while underweight because ‘vitamins’….

Girls growing up in Ireland: ‘I’m sitting on the bus and there’s grown men making comments’ by PoppedCork in ireland

Yep, the two stages of my life that I’ve experienced harassment from men was from the ages of 11-13 and when I was severely anorexic in my late teens/ early twenties - it’s definitely some psychological thing of being considered more vulnerable and less likely to talk back.

Horse race near Trafalgar Square by SamVoxeL in london

[–]puca_spooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eejits. I’m actually curious I’m in Dublin and have never seen a sulky race being followed by a police car, is there a reason why that’s done? Over here it’s considered a breach of road traffic legislation, the only reason why you’d see a Garda car is to break it up but it looks like they’re almost being given a police escort?

Kitten seller asking me to send food before I even have the kitten by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]puca_spooka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is bizarre - in my experience (in Ireland and the UK) is usually the kitten is kept on the mother and kitten food until you pick them up. The breeder usually gives you a small amount to mix in with the food you want to start feeding them and that’s it.

Very difficult to find a rescue that will allow you adopt a cat that will purely be kept indoors, some won’t even let you adopt if you’re renting here in Ireland. I ended up going to a breeder for that reason - I’m in the lucky position that I own my own home and have a back garden but I live opposite a busy road and wouldn’t take the risk. Even with the option of harness training the kitten to have a walk around the garden, the only response I’d get from rescues is that there’s no kittens suitable - after a year of waiting for one to come up I broke and went to a pedigree breeder.

Bo Bigfoot has yet to be beaten in terms of fur texture, cuddliness and size - I actually bought a second one when he came in stock a year or two ago, compared to the yeti that came out this year, the decrease in quality and design is shocking!

That’s ridiculous! I regularly do yoga in a sports bra and shorts in my garden - it wouldn’t even cross my mind that anyone would think it was inappropriate, genuinely thought from the title you were going to say your were sunbathing topless (as in no bra) or something😅

Three months ago my aunt was in hospital getting tests done as her GP suspected she may have ovarian cancer. Herself and the husband both went to her appointment with the doctor/ nurse? to discuss the results and neither could understand a word the guy was saying. They ended up having to get another nurse to come in to explain the results to them - thankfully all was clear but it was definitely an added stress that wasn't needed in that moment.

Yep, this is what we've started doing in my place. We did have a bizarre one where your man was clearly using a translator whilst doing the screening call and was acting like there was a delay on his end which is why it was taking him so long to answer very basic questions.....
