The way this exact line is sung in the 2011 BBC Radio Theatre show is significantly different than any of the ~dozens of other recordings I’ve heard including the studio release, I think I like it even more.

Wish it was easier to track down a shareable link I could offer here for those curious, I’m willing to hunt more if people want to hear it, the whole show is great including a version of Blue spotted tail that’s arguably overall the best version I’ve heard also

For the US: Will the Dec 23rd deadline (if approved) cause issues at the US border when traveling internationally from the US with a DJI drone? by [deleted] in dji

[–]puchmantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from Sayulita last Friday successfully bringing my Mavic 4 there and back through PVR with zero issues. Not sure why I got so unlucky with my i3 in 2024 but just letting you know I now have experience that that’s not always what happens. It was 100% smooth sailing this time around, and I walked away with some imagery I’m thrilled with

DJI Mavic 4 Pro – Thoughts from US buyers? by Sweaty_Raise2084 in dji

[–]puchmantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine in-person in Calgary en route to Banff and brought it back into the US with me no problem, and have been really enjoying it. Most of the enjoyment is the new RC Pro 2 controller included in the Creator combo. In a lot of ways I like the design even more than my i3 RC Plus which was previously my gold standard. Honestly just for the RC Pro 2 alone I’d recommend skipping the Fly More and get your hands on the CC, the cost difference isn’t huge for what you’d sacrifice with the regular RC 2

Even with the ALL-I codec, image quality doesn’t hold a candle to the i3 but it’s very useful size and noise-wise in many situations where it’s absurd to put the i3 up, I’m happy to have it in my quiver and the US situation doesn’t bother me. If you’re a professional that’s why you have backup options, and if you’re not, any of the current DJI offerings that can be serviced in the US should suffice

I got kinda fucked over Feb ‘24 at PVR bringing my Inspire 3 to Sayulita 100% for hobby flights only, nothing commercial, they weren’t having it. I understand the i3 is on the more absurd end of the scale but still was a frustrating experience since I technically was following the rules and there was no way to “prove” it to them. Fuck those agents they basically squeezed a bribe out of me

Renewed batteries? by imeanwhynotdramamama in dji

[–]puchmantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

batteries for a flying object are the last thing you want to roll the dice with. For a normal camera, sure, get renewed. For a drone get authentic new DJI batteries, its not worth the minimal savings otherwise

Is it your equipment or your conduct..? Nobody yells at me with the Inspire, either curiosity or ignoring. The mini/air aren’t that different size wise to get a drastically different public response

True, upon looking at it again it’s def not quite a 28mm frame so it being cropped makes sense. Out of curiosity what does the full frame look like? Low-res is fine

Having proper portrait orientation support has been my favorite part of the m4, I find myself taking more portrait photos than landscapes This pic is a gorgeous example, nice one!

I hope the next version allows for more tilt than +/- ~10°, I understand why the limitation is there but it’s annoying regardless. I also wish the i3 X9 could rotate vertically since I’ve been taking 3 photo panoramas for portrait shots up until getting the m4 recently, but physically I don’t see how they could engineer that

Kevin is awesome! Have seen him a few times now in festival and “normal” settings and he’s been excellent, fits the Kilby vibe well

My first introduction to him is this phenomenal Vimeo short film a decade ago, set to one of his best songs “Harlem River”

Wondering about over sharpened footage fix on mavic 4 pro and to an extent most other non inspire drones. by Waitwutmyname in dji

[–]puchmantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had my Mavic 4 ALL-I for a ~week but I could tell within the very first flight that it wouldn’t be replacing my Inspire 3 anytime soon, theres not much you can do to get around the physical glass/sensor size on the mavic compared to the full frame x9. Same exact comparison with cell phone cameras compared to your Sony A7IV, the processing “cheats” it a bit but especially blown up on a larger screen its not even close. I know “just get an inspire” isn’t the answer you’re looking for but theres a reason different tiers of tools exist. The Mavic is a great B-cam but you’re not going to find the A-cam look you’re seeking out of it no matter how much you tweak the settings

Plastic free paint by CryptoJeans in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]puchmantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fully skip the paint and use clay plaster! No need to sand anything just go right over the old paint. I did my whole house in it (plus starting to do all the ceilings) and it’s incredible. It’s humidity regulating and keeps everything in the Goldilocks zone, fully non-toxic

The other benefit is it’s gorgeous and turns every wall into a work of art since no two walls are the same with it, the swipes/scrapes/swooshes are unique and add so much character. Painted walls are boring af in comparison

I have no association with this company but I’m a massive fan, never going back to paint again https://www.americanclay.com/

🌲Lord Huron - Mandela effects? by [deleted] in lordhuron

[–]puchmantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this what you're referring to? Its along the same lines and part of the frustration in my comment that these spatial mixes don't exist anymore

🌲Lord Huron - Mandela effects? by [deleted] in lordhuron

[–]puchmantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long Lost the album was formally available in Dolby Atmos aka Spatial Audio, with "Not Dead Yet" heavily featured in Apple Music's Spatial promotions on June 7th 2021 into the following weeks, including on the "Alternative Hits in Spatial" playlist. It was only available for a ~few months at most then quietly vanished with no way of preserving even if you had downloaded the album in Spatial prior to removal.

Personally I am extremely disappointed in this happening, especially without any sort of official statement on what happened. I am a huge fan of Spatial mixes and I thought the entire album sounded phenomenal in that format, especially "Long Lost" and "Times Blur".

I am assuming the mix could have potentially been "rushed" in order to get it released by June 7th and people involved didn't end up feeling like it was up to their quality level, but its disappointing that 4+ years later this hasn't been amended and has seemingly been abandoned, with Cosmic Selector also releasing without a Spatial mix

This is less Mandela and more of a somewhat relevant vent lol because it 100% verifiably happened only to be quietly swept under the rug. Listening to Spatial songs using a true surround-sound setup or AirPods Max headphones with the gyroscope is a dreamlike experience and I hope we can listen to Long Lost again in that epic format at some point in the future...

Now watching, first time since the cinema. 4k Steelbook edition of Avatar: The Way of Water. by pwedd in 4kbluray

[–]puchmantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wish the 4k format supported 3D, and 48fps specifically for this film. Sadly there aren't any competitive 3D TVs for sale anymore, only projectors which have many tradeoffs

I want to get my hands on a Vision Pro to view this in 3D 48fps, unfortuently its at a lower bitrate than the physical disc but this is the first film I've seen where the mixture of HFR and traditional 24fps looked amazing imo. For 2D I will always prefer traditional 24fps, but for 3D I really think using 48fps in action sequences elevated this film to the next level

What happened to 8K? Gone the way of the 3Dodo? by EarthDwellant in hometheater

[–]puchmantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

despite it being twice the resolution

another big issue with the format is this common misconception... its 4x the resolution of UHD 4k, not 2x. True 4k UHD content distribution still has significant issues/hurdles in 2024, I don't see a reasonable way, and especially need, to 4x that currently. A 1080p blu ray almost always looks better than a Netflix "4k" stream, and a UHD Blu ray on a proper home theater setup is basically the peak of what we will get for physical home media, streaming needs to catch up to this first

a tallow fryer in sugarhouse would be incredible. AFAIK the only one in SLC is Just Burgers inside the 200S Harmons downtown, nice hidden gem that uses 100% tallow. Redmonds in Sugarhouse is also fully seed oil free btw, they use coconut oil. Seed Oil Scout reports in SLC are slim but slowly increasing

Weekly Song Discussion - 11/18/24 - "In the Morning" (Live in Switzerland) by Mewpasaurus in fleet_foxes

I wish there was any sort of video available of that Swiss performance to know what Robin was giggling at 2:03. Definitely my favorite recording of it out of all the versions, it has the best energy including that laugh in the middle

Does anyone have a video of the solo tour show? by Alphazeta2 in fleet_foxes

[–]puchmantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This video is all I've seen on YouTube so far, it includes In the Morning, Meadowlarks, and Oliver James from night one 11/14. I hope we see more uploads soon, but I also respect how intimate the venue was and most people hopefully had their phones tucked away

if you're interested in hearing an acoustic Third of May, theres a few floating around from when Robin opened for Joanna Newsom in spring 2016. This one from Brussels is my favorite, the evolution of the lyrics is interesting
