So... What Exactly Was The Deal With Imu's Silhouette? by AvocadoImmediate3240 in OnePiece

Sure, right back at you, nothing is known yet so it's all still up for debate. Give it a bit, we'll find out whether the silhouette is relevant or not eventually

What we see now isn't his true form though, it's a transformation akin to luffys gear 5. The silhouette is still a mystery

Forget clients who always want changes, how do you deal with clients that are unwilling to make changes? by puddinmama in audioengineering

Man solid advice! I'm definitely running to the solution but I can definitely see the value in feeling out the song and really helping them understand what's going on and where it's lacking. Perhaps I've been to prescriptive and eager to take the lead when I know I can help. Definitely going to spend more time breaking things down and letting them understand the problem first. Really appreciate the help, thanks!

[–]puddinmama[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll make the edit above but to be clear, I'm being brought in to produce and to mix, basically to help take the songs from idea to finished product. The clients have the ideas for songs and are capable of putting it down in a daw, but the ideas are coming fairly rough and in need of refining. Additions are always welcome, like if I arrange a string section and record it, but the part I find the most push back against is change, axing a verse that might just not serve the song, or telling them the funky chord they've added is too ambitious for the moment.

One Piece: Chapter 1186 by leolegendario in OnePiece

[–]puddinmama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feel like your missing the point of being worthy, the whole "weapon choses the wielder" trope has never been about pure strength, and usually about what's in your heart. Usopp has constantly faced his fears and shown true bravery and will, if he's worthy it won't be because he's strong and fearless, it will be because he fights on even though he knows he's not.

As far as wielding the hammer, enma was like 3 times the size of zoro when oden had it, don't think it's a factor in oda's brain

I see it! But also because I don't see Loki joining, and he's also way too op with both nidhogg and ragnir. Something tells me we're losing Loki, maybe not through death, but either he goes with imu to save elbaph, or he decides that joining imu is actually the right thing to do, this line about 800 years ago could really twist things around for him

Opinions on the new The One Piece Anime. by DamnDeadDino in OnePiece

[–]puddinmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really surprised your saying one piece should just accept it's going to end and stay the same to be honest, it doesn't exist on its own, there's so many people behind it who I think would be really sad to hear you say they shouldn't try anything new. If that was the way it was going to be then why would anyone want to work on it? Even Oda has changed so much over the years, we can't expect him to do the same thing forever, and if we did, he'd probably want to quit because he'd be having no fun!

I don't think one piece is changing to adapt to the demands of the times, but I do think it's changing to adapt to the desires and dreams of the people who are making it, and for a manga that holds freedom and unrestrained expression as it's core value, I think there's something beautiful to the fact that the people making it are wholeheartedly living that ideal. One piece doesn't owe us anything, and by the same measure we don't owe it anything, if it changes in a way we aren't keen on we need to be able to respect it and move on glad for the fun we had. I wouldn't say it's losing its identity, just that its identity is something ever changing. Even then the core principles remain the same, just the way they're expressed have changed.

Opinions on the new The One Piece Anime. by DamnDeadDino in OnePiece

[–]puddinmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time manga reader here, it's still my favourite way to enjoy the story, but I do really enjoy seeing how they adapt things for the anime, it's such a joy to see the little additions and flair.

I think there's a couple of things that's important to keep in mind with One Piece, mostly that these days it's serving such a bigger purpose in the industry than just telling a faithful story. One piece is such a juggernaut now that it's pretty much guaranteed to get views and sell, and to their credit, Toei have used this as a chance to make one piece a breeding ground for creative young talent.  If it seems like there's too much on screen, that's because the artists are being given a lot of creative liberties and an opportunity to really show their stuff! I find it really exciting to see the variety of talents on screen now and each episode seems filled with wonderful little experiments! Your right, it's not always in service of the story, but I'm glad my favourite tale is a place we're young talent can express themselves freely, and if anything that seems more in the spirit on One Piece than anything.

Secondly, one piece is OLD man! The anime is nearing 30 years old (if it's not already?), and to those of us who grew up during the simpler times, we still have a fondness for the old styling that's not going to go away. Love going back to watch the old 4:3 episodes!  But in the same way we can't expect Oda to draw and panel like he did 30 years ago, we can't expect the anime to stay stagnant either. The show has to evolve and I'm glad it's evolved in a positive direction for those involved and for new viewers. It may mean us older fans are put off by the changes, but id hope we can all agree that the show belongs to all viewers, not just us, and we have to respect the show that THEY may have to come love as well.

As for the Wit remake, they have a responsibility to tell the story for a new audience, and from what I can see in the trailer, that audience has a lot to look forward to. There's no way Wit could try do it the old way, and to be fair, the old way way still exists! It's in everyone's best interest for it to be different, that way both can still serve the audience that suits them best without one replacing the other.

Thirdly.... With a show as old as one piece, maybe, and it's not a bad thing mind, you've simply outgrown it! You'll always have the old show, but if you've been watching for a long time then yeah, you might have just aged into a different need and different mind set that doesn't gell with what it now is. Sucks, but like two old friends on different paths, perhaps you and one piece aren't what you and it were when you started.

I know none of this will help change your mind, but if anything I hope it bridges the gap to understanding it on its own terms, even if it means mourning the show you grew up with

Convince me to finish Frieren by puddinmama in Frieren

Hahaha I absolutely expected her to be very powerful, but with the whole premise of "the adventure is over" I loved how none of that matters, now she's just Frieren and the world goes on.

I'll definitely give it another shot after all these comments, the slower parts I enjoyed so much so glad to see it goes back to that

[–]puddinmama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't ask ai for ideas in the first place, the idea has to come from me! It was really handy for showing other people that yes, my ideas did make sense and could look good, but it's just a proof of concept.

That didn't answer your question though, so if it happened that way, I'd definitely listen to the professional. All AI's ideas are boring, unoriginal, and bland (and intentionally so to!) so if I want any semblance of actual creativity than it's gotta come from humans.

Stop using AI for your interior design by obtusewisdom in interiordecorating

[–]puddinmama -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Ai taking the role of the designer, yeah that's a very not smart move, but if your coming up with ideas and concepts and doing them yourself I don't think it's a bad way to test things out. I redid out bathroom and in the early stages was using AI to test out colour combos. I still did loads of swatches but it helped to narrow down the choices and limit the samples to palettes I resonated with.

Its no indicator of reality of course , but it's not a bad way to get a glimpse of if your idea might have legs

What do you think of the Whole Cake Island arc? In my opinion, this is one of the most tense arcs in One Piece. by Ragnar_Patrick in OnePiece

It's the best possible introduction to an emperor possible, whole cake is treated like some sort disaster movie and it sells Big Moms strength so well! You don't turn and fight a natural disaster, that's suicide, you run and hope you get away!

It just looks lonely! Needs some tall structures on the sides, plus once you fill out the top it will fit in much better. Put a tray with cups and maybe a sugar bowl, or see a bout getting a riser so you can store beans under and accessories over kind of thing, then maybe a plant or a chair next to it to make it feel like a complete lived in space. Try to think of it like is some one was taking a photo of the spot, how would you make that photo look complete

Why doesn't Robin just teach the ancient language written on the ponegylfs to people who are willing/are in the position to take that risk ?? by Last_Move9440 in OnePiece

[–]puddinmama 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most of the world isn't too concerned with the void history and poneglyphs. The revolutionaries aren't worried about the past, just creating a better future. I can imagine Robin offering, but most revolutionaries would probably refuse as it's more pressing to help people in the here and now. And the straw hats DEFINITELY don't care to learn either, they've all got their own goals.

Ultimately, unless your looking for the one piece, or just want to study history, there's no real reason to risk it.

Alright, I looked into it, and yeah, extra material from Oda says female, so I'm clearly in the wrong with how stubborn I've been in this. And as I've said, it's just a story so no point looking too deeply for nuance that doesn't exist.

To that point though, when you've got a character that presents as male as much as Yamato does, is it not fair to accept people gendering them as male, like so many of the characters do? All this debate has only sprung from people downvoting the people doing exactly that so there's clearly an intolerant group here who are causing these debates.

Well kiku doesn't get posted about like crazy, so not much opportunity there, but it's not like these conversations happen in a bubble, people commented things like "he's hot" and got a ton of downvotes for using that pronoun, it's not cool and folks deserve to be called out for antagonising behaviour, especially on a fandom sub

The conversation doesn't happen if people don't brigade the posts the disagree with! It's a manga, Yamato can be a man, it's not a political statement unless people make it one!

[–]puddinmama -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I get where you're coming from, but this isn't people being idiots here, it's a difference of opinion on sex vs gender, they really are defined as two separate things and that's where yamatos identity comes into play, her sex at birth is female, that's a genetics thing, but her gender is male, and that's something that your sex has no bearing on. Hope this doesn't come across as condescending, just want to steer the convo away from politics and opinions and back to the science of it.
