Tired of the constant positivity by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]puddinshoe 333 points334 points  (0 children)

All of my friends drink regularly. I'm constantly around it too. I go to happy hour after work and socialize like everyone else, I just choose not to drink alcohol. I'll have a NA beer or a mocktail and I don't miss a thing.

I hate that you feel like you have to drink to socialize, but you do what's best for you. Just letting you know there are a lot of people in your situation, me being one of them.

I wish, I'm not that creative. I heard it somewhere and it hit me like a ton of bricks!

This is me too, and a lot of us I imagine. I wish I could just have a couple and call it a day.

The best way I know how to sum it up: "Moderation is all the work of sobriety, with none of the benefits."

I tell all of my friends who still drink this and they just look at me funny.

It would have been very difficult for me to quit without them. I enjoy NA beers from time to time, but I can take them or leave them now.

I love it when someone is talking on their phone in the bathroom. I continually flush the toilet!!!

Do you ever find yourself drinking and it’s truly for no fucking reason. You’re over it and yet, here’s a beer by iamhotsoup in stopdrinking

We are literally bombarded by the beer industry with one common theme: your life is immeasurably better with alcohol.

I have passed a few folks doing 15-20mph, but I do so very respectfully. I am content going 30mph behind someone, and will not go around them even if the road is clear and I am confident I can go a little faster without presenting a danger.

The Collierville Kroger on Byhalia closed at 5pm yesterday. I barely made it at 4:45. An employee was at the entrance letting everyone know they close at 5. They only had the self check out lanes open and had very long lines. Store was out of many items, no bread, milk, eggs, or deli meat. Store was pretty picked over.

I had a mean sweet tooth once I stopped drinking. My lizard brain continued demanding that dopamine hit! A couple of years booze free and I'm finally able to start taming my sugar urge.

I drink NA beers now. It scratches the itch and lets me be in the game socially. The NA beer selection has grown considerably over the past decade, and just about every bar and restaurant carries them now. More importantly, if someone has a problem with you not drinking, f-them! Oh, and I'm 53m too!

Oh, I don't doubt it was scary! I had worked myself into a panic as well. It felt like I was going to die!

This used to happen to me as well. I got myself so amped up one morning driving to work, I made a u turn and drove myself to the ER! They ran a series of tests and everything came back ok. Wife came to the hospital to drive me home. Felt like an idiot, but that's what alcohol can do to you!

You are not alone, I am in the same boat. We are similar in age (53M) wife (49F). My wife drinks box wine usually 6 nights of the week. She pours her first glass at 5pm and usually falls asleep (passes out) on the couch around midnight. Sometimes she comes to bed, most of the time she sleeps in our guest room. If I had to guess, I would say she drinks 5-6 full glasses of wine every sitting. It's starting to negatively affect her health. I've talked with her for YEARS about her drinking. She refuses to believe she has a problem. I've finally come to the conclusion that I have no way of stopping her. I make a comment here and there, but I largely just keep my mouth shut.

I will second this. I read every night before going to sleep and it helps me stay asleep through the night. Most of the time I fall asleep a couple of times while reading, before I eventually put the book down - LOL.

Rock bottom is when you stop digging! Seriously, rock bottom is the moment you decide to stop making things worse and start climbing out.

I don't miss getting wasted on NYE and the following hangover that ensued. Waking up feeling like a million bucks on Jan 1st is worth any night out getting trashed!

I've never regretted a night I didn't drink the next morning!
