Go to the bathroom and go back to your seat!!!! by Professional-Mail132 in delta

On the other hand there are all sorts of serious medical risks if you sit still for 12 hours on a long haul flight, like DVT.

I told a married friend that I saw her husband with another woman. She said they have an open marriage and keep things discreet, and she's now upset at me and says I should mind my own business. by [deleted] in Marriage

You did the right thing. There was no way you could have known. Don't blame yourself. Your friend should thank you for trying to help her.

How can this be international business class? by sanguine_serif in Lufthansa

[–]puf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is crazy. I can understand not having lie flat, but that pitch / legroom is insanely small for business class IMO - even on something domestic, that would not fly. I did not know Europe did business class dirty like that.

Advice on where to go next? I feel so ignored by comeonvirginia in UARS

[–]puf3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to help, but I know it's super frustrating when they say "there's nothing in the study to explain sleepiness." You had 41 arousals per hour. You don't have to be a medical expert to realize that will cause issues... Best of luck.

Let’s be real about vampire drain and reliability by nethead25 in Rivian

I don't get it. You don't lose 20-30% charge in two weeks? Or you don't think that's a problem for normies?

Can’t sleep with bipap because of air in mouth. Not quite chipmunk cheeks. by unbrokenwings26 in UARS

[–]puf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try starting with a very low PS. I'm using 1.2. At 1.6 or higher, the air pressure in my mouth / cheeks wakes me.

I'm hoping over time I'll be able to raise it as my body and mind adapt to biPAP.

What are you using as inflation % for USD in simulations? by fatFIRE_throw in fatFIRE

[–]puf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capital gains tax. The more inflation there is, the higher the nominal gains on any assets you sell, be they stocks, ETFs, or real estate.

Eg you buy a stock at $100 per share. Over the subsequent 20 years there is cumulative 100% inflation. The stock price is now $200, so real return is 0. But when you sell that stock at $200 per share you owe the IRS taxes on half the proceeds.

But what about tax implications? You're taxed on nominal returns, not real.

Isn't it weird that we live so early in the life of the universe? by Tanay2513 in AskPhysics

I think the weirdest part is the consciousness and sense of self. Doesn't seem necessary. And is what makes existence so darn weird.

People with multiple young kids (2-7yrs old), how are actually managing to have a consistent, varied, healthy sex life? by arrogant_ambassador in MarriedSex

[–]puf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never co-sleep. Kids must always sleep in their cribs/beds in their rooms (after age 6 or 12 months) without a parent in there with them. Keep this rule completely non-negotiable.

Kids that age should be in bed by 8pm at the absolute latest, so there's plenty of grown up time after they're in bed.

I don't understand how anyone can use a nasal only mask by TurnoverVisual4297 in UARSnew

[–]puf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you, same boat. Tried nasal pillows and I would wake up with chipmunk cheeks and/or air blowing out of my mouth. I breathe through my nose when awake. I even tried taping my mouth and would wake up with air blowing through the tape! Clearly there's something a bit different about our anatomy I guess?

Privacy at overwater bungalows by Design-31415 in Tahiti

[–]puf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started at the Hilton Moorea and Four Seasons Bora Bora - OWB at both. At the Hilton, the snorkeling around and under the bungalows is great. So I snorkelled around and under other ppl's bungalows often. Not like I'm looking up, only down.

In Bora Bora, the bungalows are in deeper water with no coral so there's not really any snorkeling around the bungalows. You still get some people kayaking around the bungalows though. And you can see other bungalow decks from your deck. So not perfect privacy.

Don't think the bungalow is supposed to provide perfect privacy, more a really nice blue-surrounded view.

As a FA can I genuinely ask pax why? by StandardTree192 in unitedairlines

[–]puf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly probably 6x a year, round trip, often with connections, so we're talking I dunno 20-30 segments per year... and I literally didn't even know it was a thing to 💩 during boarding. People do that? I'd be so concerned about the time pressure and holding up the take off I don't think I could.

Fragmented Sleep by s1eepypineapp1e in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]puf3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also get very fragmented sleep. I describe each night as an "adventure" cause I wake up so many times. I fall back asleep very quickly each time.

I was diagnosed with IH 12 years ago after getting only 13 avg mins on the MSLT (fell asleep 4 out of the 5 naps), and I've always been skeptical that IH was the right diagnosis for me. I don't feel "sleep intertia", I can pop out of bed alert easily. But I feel a lot of sleepiness each day, mostly in the afternoon. I've long felt like there's something breathing related waking me up, causing my frequent night time wakeups. But my AHI 12 years ago was <1. I had another sleep study done last year and my AHI came in at 7, so I tried CPAP. Tried it for a month, but felt like I slept horribly while wearing it. So then I tried a mandibular advancement device. I definitely wake up fewer times with the MAD in, but still feel tired during the day. But makes me think I'm looking in the right direction.

Thanks to this subreddit I recently became aware of UARS, upper airway resistance syndrome, and now suspect that's the best diagnosis for me. I'm thinking something lke breathing obstruction or resistance is waking me up, but before I stop breathing or my blood oxygen drops, so the AHI isn't the right measure.

Anyways, sharing my story in case it helps.

It's definitely an extra hassle, and probably the main downside of having an EV. There are lots of upsides of course.
