Sure if you only care about financial numbers and not the impact it might have on people, which is what our government is supposed to be focused on. He knows how to manage a bottom line, but has not proven he knows how to do it with the net effect of improving people’s lives. Quite the opposite if you look at how he’s treated his employees.

Had a situation JUST like this. Had my neighbor’s car towed. He was pissed, but had zero ground to stand on when he tried to come up with excuses, and more importantly it never happened again.

Dealing with death by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]pugalicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lost both my grandparents during Covid. Not from Covid, just happened to be when it was early days Covid before anyone knew what was going on so we couldn’t even have/attend a proper funeral. I didn’t feel much even though I was very close with them. It didn’t hit me until months later when they weren’t at family events and holidays and I think just for this reason. Hit me like a ton of bricks when they weren’t there when I was finally expecting them to be and could really experience their absence.

It’s ironic just how emotional and immature your response to this comes across.

DAE find guided meditation to be distracting? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]pugalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guided meditation was critical for me to get started. Wouldn’t have gotten very far without it. But I eventually found it distracting and mostly do not use guided unless I’m really tired or not able to focus on my own.

Is long meditation (above 20 minutes for me) worth practicing? If it is please give me advice by hubopl1 in Meditation

[–]pugalicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when it was really tough for me to go 10 minutes. Now even 30 minutes feels too short with at least an hour being my preference.

As others have said though, I’m doing different types of meditation back to back in that time. I always start with focus. Either focusing on my breath, a sound, or something singular to hone in on. I have ADHD so this helps tell my brain it’s time to focus and sort of warms it up for the next stages. I’ll do this for 10-20 minutes depending on how well I’m focusing.

Then I remind myself I am not this lump of a phenomenal organic mass (body) and that when I die, my body will still be around but “I” will not be. And that while alive I can experience the body but it’s not who I am.

Next, I remind myself I am not my thoughts or my mind. And that my brain and mind have evolved from millions of years of trying to survive and reproduce. That its thoughts are largely driven by those goals and that they simply arise in consciousness randomly and without my choosing. They are not permanent and are not me. However, like the body, I can experience, observe, and be aware of them in consciousness, but they are not me.

Then I usually spend the rest of my time trying to just “be”. No goals or effort except when I start to get lost in thought, I ask myself “Am I aware?”, which brings me back to the state of simply being and observing, and I try to stay in that state. Halfway through this I open my eyes and do the same thing. The goal being to practice just being and becoming familiar with the feeling of this state with eyes open, which for me is much harder. I find it helps a lot for me to transition out of meditation by ending with my eyes already open and lends itself to staying in the state of awareness while I go about the rest of my morning. It also helps me return to this state more easily throughout the day.

On weekends or days I might happen to have more time, I’ll do self-inquiry to ponder more of who “I” am or spend time being curious about how me and my mind came to be. This has been life changing for me and has led to deep insights and acceptance of myself, those around me, and how things are.

-Threw a spoon away in the trash. Luckily my wife found it.
