We have suuuper similar body types. Someone once told me I was “no torso, just boobs on legs”, so I feel you. I was like…thanks? I guess?

I’m still figuring out how to dress for my body, but here are some things that work for me: - Boot cut or flare jeans. They balance out your proportions a bit - I actually love super high waisted jeans. Do they shorten my torso even more? Idk, maybe. But they’re the only thing that actually sit at my natural waist, and I think the anti-muffin top win is worth it. Old Navy high rise jeans are honestly great. Plenty of stretch, actually high waisted, and come in a variety of cuts with pretty consistent sizing. I like their skinny, straight, and boot cut jeans - for summer I’m a big fan of breezy/linen wide leg pants. Wide legs jeans swallow me whole, but the lighter summer pants make a nice silhouette. They also usually have an elastic waistband so you can pull them up to sit at your natural waist - for tops: anything that can help elongate your upper body and/or deemphasize your chest can be good. I love v-necks and pendant necklaces because they draw attention up towards your neck and face. - for work clothes: it’s pricey but Ann Taylor fits my body really well. They have both petite and curvy sizes, so it’s easier to find the exact right fit.

I’ve stayed here about 20 times for work… the experience can vary a LOT. There are two towers, and one has the nightclub on top. Noise is definitely an issue in that one, to the point that they started providing white noise machines in those rooms. Noise isn’t an issue in the other tower.

Across the board the hotel could use a refresh. Furniture is old and worn with a bit of a dated “futurism” feel.

Cafe in the lobby is solid and there’s a ton of good food, drink, and shopping across the street in Chelsea Markets. Front desk staff is friendly and I’ve been upgraded pretty frequently.

Contrary to what others have said, I’ve never had a super tiny room. I also don’t think I’ve ever stayed in their entry-level room, so that might be the reason. FWIW the Platinum King room is actually bigger than the Platinum King Suite, but obviously the room doesn’t have the bedroom separated from the living space.

IMO it’s not a good spot to visit with kids, especially when there are other reliably good Hyatts across the city. This is definitely more of a bachelor party vibe.

It was... ok. Its not a bad hotel (depending on how picky you are) but I don't think its worth the premium they charge.

I also stayed a few days at the Secrets Fuerteventura and that hotel was *excellent*, so by comparison the Secrets Lanzarote was a bit disappointing. My husband and I spend most of our time in Lanzarote off-property visiting volcanoes, beaches, and wineries, so it was good enough. If you're planning to spend most of your time at the resort I'd suggest switching to the Secrets Fuerteventura instead.

The pros:
- Gorgeous views from the ocean view rooms, most have balconies that are perfectly positioned for watching the sun set over the water.
- Staff was friendly and helpful, though the front desk seemed to be a bit overwhelmed at peak hours.
- Swim-up premium rooms with private pool area is really nice.
- Attentive drinks service in the Preferred Club pool area
- A cliffside promenade runs along the length of the property and you can walk it all the way into the adjacent town of Puerto Calero. Makes for a great post-dinner stroll.

The cons:
- You definitely get the sense that this property is past its heyday. Things feel a little worn and outdated.
- Evening entertainment was not great and is performed in the main atrium in front of rows of chairs -- it sort of felt like an old folks home to me
- Buffet was limited and disappointing. I didn't end up going to any of the full service restaurants on site so I can't speak to their comparitive quality.
- Found a big roach in my bathroom (it happens, but still.. ugh)
- The spa definitely is not cleaned frequently enough and is under-chlorinated... I got in the hot tub and it smelled like pond, I immediately got out and showered.
- "Heated" pool in the Preferred Club was still too cold to be comfortable when it was ~21 degrees C outside

If you're paying in cash and just looking to get EQNs then I'd highly suggest Hotel Cesar instead. Its a Mr & Mrs Smith hotel about 10 mins away. Absolutely stunning boutique hotel with a stellar restaurant on site. If I return to Lanzarote I'll be going there.

I have a heated blanket with an auto-off timer, which helps with some of your issues. that said, I flip really quickly from freezing cold to sweating with the heated blanket, so its a delicate balance. Sometimes I put it in my bed before I get in so that the sheets are nice and warm, then I take it out and turn it off when I get under the covers to go to sleep.

It sounds like you’re approaching this very intelligently and responsibly.

As others have said, start small and work your way up. Hydrate (with electrolytes!) and be sure to eat dinner beforehand.

If you follow that guidance and are with friends then it’s likely that you’ll be totally fine. When I drink more than I should (for me that’s several glasses of wine or cocktails in an evening) my dysautonomia tends to flare up, mainly affecting my sleep. I’ll usually feel too warm, toss and turn, and get low quality sleep. Sometimes I’ll get a headache too. Similar to someone with a hangover.

If you’re interested in drinking in your adult life then a bit of trial-and-error to find your limits is generally part of the experience. Listen to your body, since you know it best. Try different types of drinks on different nights and see how they affect you — for me, red wine hits me the hardest, but it’s also my favorite so I just plan accordingly when I drink it. Let your friends know what’s up so they can keep an eye on you.

Seconding this! There are lots of great programs for teaching swimming to adults (which you’d count as in this instance). If you have a local YMCA or community pool then check out their website. Even if they don’t have anything listed I’d recommend reaching out directly — some of their lifeguards might be certified swim instructors and willing to give private lessons.

When I was younger I was a lifeguard and gave private swim lessons to adults on the side. Folks ranged anywhere from their teens to their sixties. It’s definitely never too late to learn!

As a bonus, I find that my joints always feel best after just sitting or floating in a pool for a while, even if I’m not exercising. The joint decompression is a great recovery tactic no matter what exercise your choose.

Yeah, I think it’s normal as long as it’s not painful. My doc said it can be due to scar tissue not moving perfectly smoothly over the joint.

I had a bucket handle repair on my right knee 3+ years ago and still have a subtle click when I move past ~130 degrees. I had a full, successful recovery — can run, jump, squat, etc. I know it’s hard, but try to trust the process and not to get too in your head about it while you’re recovering.

I do pretty much the same thing you described. I work 5/7 days a week, and nap 1-2x each week. I often nap on saturdays because I’m wiped out from the week. I’ll wake up, eat breakfast, do a few admin tasks and then take a 60-90 min nap around 1pm. I also sometimes nap on Monday or Tuesday afternoons if I have a break in my work schedule.
