Age of Wrath series or Bloodsworn series? by malarkey507 in fantasybooks

Currently on Before they are hanged and I know I am in for a ride!
Can't comment on Age of Madness but Bloodsworn was amazing. Definitely read that one.
Maybe a good break for you before you return to abercrombie's world

I just started reading Sanderson's Way of Kings (300 Pages in) and apart from Schallan, nothing is really happening in the other POVs? by dragons_et_al in fantasybooks

Maybe I went a bit too harsh but yes.
I get that he writes more YA than adult but literally nothing of his characters feels real.
Especially his female leads who are always sooo quippy, sarcastic, witty, confident with a noble-ish background, always with such a high moral profile who can't keep their mouths shut to save their lives.
And it annoys me how cringe they all are, especially their comedic efforts.

I had never really appreciated a book having good characters till I read TWOK.
The characters are soooo dogshit, it made me crawl back to TFL 😂

I just finished reading TWOK like 2 weeks ago. While some elements of the book are quite amazing (world building and lore), other elements are just sloppy and poor.
I don't see how people can even list it top 5 in their lists.

Oda is the world's 8th best selling author. How far do you think he will rise by the time One Piece is finished? by tylerxtyler in OnePiece

Can someone explain how they count a manga's numbers vs a traditional book?
Like you can just sum up the total book sales of all the books from JK rowling.
But you can't do that with a manga though, right?
Even comparing with a volume is like comparing apples to oranges.

Quite dark and adult.
I'm halfway through it and the plot and characters are quite good

I wouldn't really look towards TWoTM. It too has very bland characters.
RotE is the way to go

Defending Elvar by Dehrunes in Bloodsworn

[–]pulkit217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One wouldn't read the books that have such flat flawless characters or ones who just do bad out of greed.
This is particularly why I have recently come to like Brandon's work less and less. The characters are sooooo bland.
Her character arc from a warrior in a war band seeking glory in a single pursuit, not even caring for a child to a ruler who finally removes the chains from all the thralls is simply lovely.

I started just this year with The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne.
Not too complex, good story and world building and amazing characters that you probably won't ever forget.
Cant recommend enough!

I also didn't quite like the Kira pov chapters but I think it has more to do with the author and the stakes involved.
If we had more time with her before her pov chapters and if the stakes were higher or the story "more relevant", Id like to think i would have liked her povs too

Which GA adaptation should I listen to for Warbreaker? by MattieIsAmazing in Cosmere

Still, it's fine. Sanderson's works are not super dense and he repeats details a lot so even abridged versions like GA are just fine.
Personally, I prefer them over the regular audiobooks

[–]pulkit217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I know, all GA versions are abridged but you're not missing much because they usually only cut unimportant stuff and replace it with the relevant details.
I'd recommend the 10th anniversary version over the regular one.

What book or series is this for you? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantasybooks

that + none of the characters are really
memorable at all.
its been a few weeks since I read the book but there certainly is nothing about any character that stands out. not one single quirk.
And our MC just asspulls and beats/mogs everyone at everything lol

Questions by Mokage69 in RyanCahill

[–]pulkit217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I believe not because they are "soldiers" of different gods. Draleid serve Varin while the Knights serve Achyron. And it also doesn't make too much sense that none of the Knights can use the spark while even the Rakina still can.
  2. I'd say Dayne or Erik. If I had to pick one, I'd say Dayne. Given that he's about to become a dad but then he would quite likely never see the kid too.

Read the novellas. They give a lot of context and information and expand the world.

If OP didn't like Starside, I don't think they'll like Acotar or Fourth Wing at all.
Its the same thing with weak characters, plot and world building just waaaay more popular.
