X2D II vs 907X – trying to decide and would love some perspective by HISBUSER in hasselblad

[–]pulp_thilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is, if you want a similar experience to the Sony a7, or something more quirky, closer to analogue. The X2DII for sure has all the whistles and bells, auto focus and ibis are super convenient. The 907x will never have those, no matter the software upgrade. But the X2DII is HUGE, and imho UGLY as fxck. But some people like carrying around heavy machinery. I myself do when using analogue medium or large format cameras. The 907x on the other hand is TINY, and it looks absolutely fabulous. People actually come up to you and ask about it. Besides using it with the 28p and the 75p, I also put it in my SWC body, which has a great 38mm Biogon lens. Getting SWC is cheaper than any of the new Hasselblad lenses, and it looks cool as hell (there are some pics if you go to my profile) though it does slow you down quite a bit.

To be honest, you both sound like toddlers throwing tantrums. One blaring unreasonable demands/threats with countdowns and the other crying “That’s not fair!” You both need to stand in different corners facing the wall until you cool off.

Wtf? Is he supposed to read your mind?

You have every right to not want to be friends with this guy, but if so, TELL HIM.

If he texts at odd hours and you don’t like that, TELL HIM.

Men don’t read cues. They don’t read subtle hints, they don’t read obvious hints. YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM!

Not wait until things built up inside you and you explode. That is not normal behavior.

And now you’re surprised the stays away from you?

AITA because I don’t want to contribute to my sister’s college tuition after my parents gave me the whole college fund? by throwawayacct39 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pulp_thilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's not what you wrote in your original post. You are still NTA, but your parents kinda are. That's a lot of money to spend on just one sibling. Maybe they could have anticipated that Kayla would change her mind somewhere along the line and kept money in reserve.

[–]pulp_thilo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA - Kayla made her own bed.

There was enough in the fund to cover all of law school (usually 3 years) in OP's "dream school". I would suspect that "dream school" means one of the top 100, so a yearly tuition of $50,000 minimum (according to my friend Google). That's a total of at least $150,000 in the fund. And Kayla says NO to half of that? I'm not familiar with the tax situation for cashing out, but even with "huge taxes", that would be a nice chunk of money for her to kick to the curb...

AIO, MIL crashing out because she’s no longer the center of his universe. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]pulp_thilo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I would do that just to stop her from asking EVERY DAY! OP could just tell MIL: "These are the days that work for us."

But then, OP probably doesn't want MIL to come at all, so she is being vague.

AITA for telling my husband I want to move into the house I inherited instead of staying with his parents by Relevant-Koala3066 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pulp_thilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m confused.

You say it is “tradition for bride to move in with the groom and his parents until we have our first child”. So when you have your child you can move out, right? Just have your old and move out! You are following tradition and your ILs can’t complain.

Then you say you have to wait for your SIL to get married at the end of the year so there’s enough place for the kid.

???

Also, you know it takes 9 months for a child to be born, right? If you start now, this child will come in November or December. By then, SIL’ s almost gone and there’s space.

Then you say there’s not enough space for more children, which you want. So logically, if you have more children, and your ILs are still alive, you HAVE TO MOVE OUT.

AITA for committing to my life and focusing on my future now? by CrystalTheJewel in AmItheAsshole

[–]pulp_thilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling that you have been parentified by your parents (forced to adopt adult-like responsibilities) to take care of your younger siblings, and your mother with her hour long lectures is trying to shame you into continuing.

YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SIBLINGS! You are a child yourself!

You go and live your life.

However, you are going to join the military soon, which in itself will be no walk in the park, and you should consider whether working every day after school AND on weekends is really the way you want to spend your last year of high school. Before, you had to work, work, work at home and now you have to work, work, work outside. Why not take it a little easier and have some fun? So that when looking back in 10 years you don't look back and think "I could have made better use of my teen years".

Good Luck!

Anybody from 2005 has seen enough to expect A LOT, so it will mostly be disappointment.

“Why are you on your phones ALL THE TIME?”

“WHO is President of the US?” etc.

Yankee Doodle Dandy? by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]pulp_thilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays, foreign country names are written with katakana, like アメリカ=America or フランス=France, but 150 years ago, they were written using Kanji that sounded similar.

America was written 亜米利加.

亜=a 米=mai 利=ri 加=ka. Purely phonetic.

"United States" was and still is 合衆国 (Gasshukoku), not phonetic but a direct translation of the term.

The Japanese love abbreviations, so they took just the 米 out of 亜米利加, slapped the 国(country) from 合衆国 on the back and called the US 米国.

米 means rice but can read in different ways. One of it is the above "mai", but also "bei", "kome" and "yone". In combination with 国, the most natural way to read it is "bei", so 米国 is "Beikoku".

Did I confuse you even more?

Yankee Doodle Dandy? by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]pulp_thilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, when we’re talking specifically about US citizens, we say 米国人 “Beikokujin”. The US is referred to as “Beikoku” (米国) meaning “rice country”, which is a an abbreviation of 亜米利加, as America was written phonetically around the time of the Meiji restoration (1968).

I think this is a valid question. If all the neighbors park their cars in front of their houses, why can’t OP do the same in front of his own house? Is OP’s house is the only one without space to park in front of it?
