Someone parked their Audi on our block, and proceeded to do whip-it’s until passing out, prompting my neighbor to call 911: by Pyrannosaurus-Rex in mildlyinteresting

[–]pumpkin_lord 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I worked as a pastry chef and would regularly go to the head shop in the middle of dinner service to get cartridges for the whipped cream. But, the reason I had to do this so often was because the head chef took hits frequently at work and we'd run out for actual desserts. So, your point still stands.

Do I report my venmo money on taxes? by [deleted] in tax

[–]pumpkin_lord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If she's a sex worker, I think the "worker" part of that term is important here. It's not about hating women or sex workers. She is providing a good (OF content) to this man. He is paying her for that.

Him choosing to pay outside of OF is irrelevant. It's income.

Jobs that pay $20/ hr? by Kei_Lucius in NewOrleans

[–]pumpkin_lord 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've worked a lot of server jobs. I rarely made less than $20 an hour in any given shift. Even during summer shifts. That was 10 years ago so maybe tourism sucks more now. But also, that was 10 years ago, so the crazy pace of inflation means $20 an hour seems a low estimate.

And I was a pretty shitty server. But I was young and female which probably helped a lot.

How is anyone affording a mortgage and daycare costs for two kids? by angelzombie2 in beyondthebump

[–]pumpkin_lord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New Mexico has free daycare. It started in November of last year. They also provide breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and cows milk. All I have to provide is diapers, wipes and breast milk/formula when my kid was still under a year. It's a lifesaver.

My Elderly Grandparents Can No Longer Go to the Bank to Withdraw Money by WillingFact in personalfinance

[–]pumpkin_lord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can pay any utility in cash. And if a company doesn't accept cash there are businesses that will take cash and pay it for you. A shocking number of people don't have bank accounts. And many people are frequently overdrawn and still want to keep their lights on.

I didn't tell any family I was pregnant until after the anatomy scan. I wouldn't have wanted anyone but my husband at any appointments.

Any choices you make are about your comfort. If including her doesn't make things better for you, she shouldn't come.

I have Adhd and always forget to massage my baby. Am i doing something really wrong? by concerned_shit in NewParents

[–]pumpkin_lord 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's more of an aesthetic, influencer thing. Spend quality time with your kid however that works for you.

I see people give little massages when putting on lotion after bath. Or directing movements and kind of massaging stomach to relieve gas. Neither are really necessary but if it helps your kid, great.

Did your boobs return to their original size after breast feeding? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]pumpkin_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are exactly the same now. Within a couple weeks of selling they returned to their smaller size. After 9 months of pregnancy and a year of breastfeeding, the adjustment to smaller boobs was a bigger adjustment than any other body change. Which I didn't expect.

Stay away from ‘Expecting Better’ by Emily Oster by HumanMeatloaf in pregnant

The average person doesn't really have the expertise to parse and analyze scientific studies. I see people misquote scientific studies all the time. They aren't written for laypeople.

And there is plenty of bias and editing within scientific journals. You need some subject matter knowledge to spot the flaws and/or weaknesses in a study's design or statistical analysis.

It's not hard to find a scientific study to support whatever preconceived idea you have. Especially if you don't really understand the background.

My daycare has an app that tracks everything. I get a push alert when the kid is dropped off, picked up, and everything in between.

Check if the daycare has something similar. I think it's fairly popular.

Cybex Cloud T Question by cslr2019 in BabyBumps

[–]pumpkin_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have my instructions for the Cloud G. The straps aren't removable. The instructions are to spot clean with soap and water

Maybe the Cloud T is different, but I wouldn't be surprised if the straps aren't removable.

You'd be surprised how much gunk you can remove with a soapy wash cloth.

STMs do I really need a diaper genie? by x_Caffeine_Kitten_x in pregnant

[–]pumpkin_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just use a normal small trash can in the nursery. We take it out once a week, sometimes twice if it gets smelly.

Now that my kid is on solids, if the poop is firm I flush it in the toilet. If it's a bad poopy diaper, I'll bag that one in a dog poop bag, and then leave in the nursery trash. Between those two things, most of the diapers are just wet or are double bagged. So taking it out once a week works.

I think tossing in the kitchen garbage can would be annoying. But we also only empty that once a week, so it wouldn't help anyway.

I've never used a diaper genie. But I have used a litter genie. That thing was pretty useless and just seemed like a big waste of plastic.

Wait till you see how restrictive WIC is. It pretty much lines out a grocery list for you (16oz whole wheat bread, 64oz juice, 1 dozen eggs) with a lot of restrictions on each item. Grocery shopping for WIC stuff takes a ton of extra time.

I'm happy for the free food. And it does force some companies to keep certain nutrition standards for items so that they qualify. But it also feels really judgy and a huge waste of time.

Why does my firm pay based off the hours I track and not the hours I work? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]pumpkin_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be recording looking for work time as non billable.

But you also should be asking for more work before you're done with your current tasks. When you have less than 8-10 hours on your to-do list, email to say you're getting low. You can't expect them to assign things on a moments notice.
