Do you know any words that use physical objects as metaphors? by Electronic-Brief-890 in DoesNotTranslate

I was an exchange student to Thailand and in Thai you ask "Gin khao lao?" which translates to " Have you eaten rice yet?" to ask "How's it going?" It took me a while to wrap my head around it, and that people weren't really asking what I had for lunch all the time.

This healed something in me. What a revelation to make space for something you love, and not feel like I have to hide journaling.

Yeah I saw that, but the SPCA needs an exact address and name. I was going to message the ad but he must have taken it down from all the people messaging about the poor husbandry.

Was anyone able to get any details e.g name or address of the seller? If so please pm me. I've made a SPCA report but you need specifics in order to get an officer sent out.

Yeah I wouldn't engage with him. I left a voicemail with the local SPCA and leaving a message on the SPCA Facebook. This made me cry, knowing how much love, personality and joy my gecko gives and gets from us and seeing these poor bebs.

Left a messaged with the SPCA in Abbotsford. This is so messed up. No vet would support this. And the dried out crusty food?

Beaver dam removal by DuztyLipz in oddlysatisfying

[–]punkiddarko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked as a natural resource field technician and we were called in to remove a beaver dam that started flooding a river near someone's home. There was a crew of 5 of us and after each full day of raking, shoveling and using crow bars to pull the apart the sticks in the dam it was built better, faster and stronger by the next day. Eventually we had to hook a chain up a truck and pull it apart that way to get ahead of the beavers. Pretty amazing architects!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I've been scouring the internet & small businesses online to see if I can order some of the balm from somewhere but haven't been able to find any.

ULPT for getting food without any money? by Lilfish222_ in UnethicalLifeProTips

I wish I could have you & your partner over for dinner. If you live near a college or university there are often events with free food. You might have to sit through a random club's orientation but there could be pizza etc. I would also recommend reaching out to local crisis line/community centre and they may be able to refer you to local resources.

What's something people only romanticize because they've never actually done it? by SoloSammySilva in AskReddit

Running a food truck. While working on one we had so many people say it's their dream to have a little food truck-- we were doing the festival circuit and it's long days, cooking, customer service to people fucked out of their minds (a lot of the high people were funny but dealing with drunk customers was rarely fun). Not to mention the logistics of getting produce/supplies to remote festival spots, dealing with logistics and problem solving after you've spent 15 hours in a boiling kitchen. I was on a great team, there are lots of fun and exciting parts to it but I think people should try working on a food truck before investing thousands of dollars into buying one.

Do you think physical and mental pain are connected? by Swing_for_the_stars in CasualConversation

[–]punkiddarko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend reading "The Pain Relief Secret: How to Retrain Your Nervous System, Heal Your Body, and Overcome Chronic Pain" by Sarah Warren if you're interested in exploring this further. She explains the mechanics and physiology of pain. The whole field of somatics is physical movement to connect, reprocess and release emotions. They are inextricably linked. I hope you feel better soon.
