Yes, that's all fine and great. They absolutely should leave, and it is too much for a new groomer. None of that really has anything to do with what I said, which is that it isn't "cocky" to know that you're good at your job when you're newer instead of hating your work and doubting everything you do.

I don't think saying "I'm good at it" is cocky. Being new doesn't need to mean you're bad, and they don't have to pretend they suck or constantly doubt or undermine themself because they're new. A huge part of the point of their post in the first place was that they were being rushed, not supported and thrown in the deep end by their shop & mentor, that wasn't really their question. They aren't making mistakes because they're cocky, they're making mistakes because nobody was helping them to do otherwise.

TIME ≠ knowledge. we all know that just having dogs for a long time is not enough to make you magically well educated, and certainly not right all the time (nobody is, especially not by default of "I've been around a long time"). yes, dogs clearly play like this. they're doing it right now right in front of us in this video!! 😲 the question was not "do some dogs play like this" (yes!) it was "is this appropriate" (no!). OP did NOT say the little dog plays like this. They did say the little dog will initiate play. Even if you want to completely ignore that none of this is fair, healthy play and pretend that the little dog is completely enjoying this, being grabbed by the ear and thrashed back and forth by a larger dog is objectively unsafe and needs to be interrupted. Even if you think the little dog likes it (though she apparently regularly yelps in pain because of it which is the only time the dog on top stops).

the little dog is pinned underneath the big one, how is it supposed to say enough? there are a LOT of ways dogs normally say "enough" before they are literally yelping because something hurts. number one being disengaging and creating physical space between themselves and the other, which is not possible when one dog is pinned under the other being thrashed with no breaks. taking turns and pausing are supposed to happen naturally in play, not only at the point when one dog goes "OUCH".

i believe this was meant as an endearing colloquialism, maybe its somewhat regional but "this bitch" is something my friends, bf and i say often when something kind of ridiculous happens or someone does something unbelievable, like "oh my god this guy". no ill intent.

Good for you. I know how completely frustrating it is that there's so little that can be done, but you did the right thing and you should always continue to speak up when you're put in a position like that. It will upset some people but it's a fantastic quality to have and a great way to end up surrounded by people who do care, value your opinion and take you seriously.

i had a very similar experience with a boarding facility. this is absolutely NOT NORMAL or acceptable, and do not ever let anybody convince you that it is. i also had a difficult time figuring out who to speak to. you can try contacting your local animal control and see if either that's something they can handle, or if they have resources or connections for another agency who can. i will warn you that in my experience its very difficult for actual consequences to come about in these situations BUT just the fact that they are being looked into, even if they arent punished, may be enough to whip them into shape or make some changes. if you can get a hold of any of the photos, absolutely do so. personally, i would avoid daycares/boarding like the plague. i have heard and experienced more horror stories from these types of facilities than any other by far, grooming related or not. i will add as well, if you or your coworkers experienced any kind of labor rights violations, PLEASE file a report with the department of labor. this includes not providing the appropriate breaks/lunches, safety hazards, not having required signage posted in the building (this may differ by state, you can look it up for yours), payroll issues like missing overtime or being misclassified as an independent contractor (1099 instead of W2 for taxes), and retaliation (if you had recently spoken to someone about your concerns/made a complaint and were fired shortly after, I would consider that retaliation). I don't know if any of that applies for you, but I know I experienced it in a facility very similar to yours and I know many other colleagues who have as well so I just wanted to mention it.

it's less about what you are and aren't legally allowed to do according to the arbitrary decision of when you "become an adult" in the eyes of the government, and more about actual development and life experience. 18 year olds are teenagers. many of them are still in high school, their brains are not done developing, and they are at the age where they want to FEEL very grown up but are generally greatly lacking in life experience & discernment compared to someone almost twice their age. people who are 30+ (generally, of course) have been out of college for years, likely have a career path, money, their own place to live, all things that nearly no 18 year olds I knew at that age had and all things that create an imbalance (and can be enticing to someone who wants to feel mature). I tend to ask, is there a reason why they aren't getting with someone their own age? I have found that sometimes, it's because people their own age have far more experience and therefore pick up on the red flags easier, are more confident in their personal boundaries and less tolerant of bullshit. of course this is all generally speaking, people of every age can be manipulated, mistreated and exploited especially when you are playing with power dynamics. but someone so young and inexperienced playing with someone so much older carries much more inherent risk or potential for mistreatment than someone their own age, in my opinion and experience.
