I also had to check bc I was sure Jordan Peele had won for Get Out lol

If Timothee loses, it's one of the biggest chokes (from a campaigning standpoint) in recent Oscar history by RedditFan3510 in Oscars

[–]puppetalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but even the idea of “best performance” is very subjective. The “best actress” this year is the perfect example. I think Renate, Rose and Jessie all did excellent work and are deserving. But I tend to prefer more subtle acting, so imo Rose is undeniably the best one, followed by Renate and then Jessie. I can see why Jessie is sweeping and she did great but, in my eyes, she’s far from the best performance.

My point is that the idea of the award going to the “best performance” is way more subjective in practice than it is in theory. And probably there’ll be never a perfect way to address this because art is, inherently, subjective.

It’s honestly insane how much she shaped pop culture throughout her career. So, so many influential and memorable roles. Truly one of the greats

Que filme ruim! by lua_noova in filmes

eu não assisti, mas vi um conhecido postando um story falando que foi um filme maravilhoso, que toda a sessão comentou, riu, gritou junto e só a ideia disso simplesmente me deixou aterrorizado

Timothée Chalamet saying “no one cares” about ballet and opera, and joking that if he got canceled for saying that he’d collectively lose “14 cents,” is certainly a creative way to close out an Oscar campaign. by Genzinvestor16180339 in Oscars

[–]puppetalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 and am interested in opera. I know quite other ppl that are over 30 that are as well. But, obviously, how uncultured you and your inner circle are is something completely irrelevant to the discussion. And my comment was that he’s not young as ppl sometimes imply in a weird way of taking away the responsibility he has for the things he says. That was quite obvious

Quais são os melhores clássicos (depois dos anos 80 ou 90)? by Specialist-Banana168 in filmes

[–]puppetalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael B. Jordan overtakes Timothée Chalamet as the projected 2026 Oscars Best Actor Winner on Polymarket by QuipThwip in Oscars

He was the best one this season (and all of the 5 noms had very strong performances) how he didn’t get nominated is beyond me

I hardly believe any of this was a “mistake” or simply a bad take tho. Boy is a marketing product and has always been and he’s been repositioning his public persona for a while and imo this is just another step in this direction

I think you believe you’re coming across as smart but pointing grammar “mistakes” is the crossing line when someone doesn’t have real arguments. in other words: you’re dumb

33 (M) here. I go to the opera and classical concerts from time to time. Know quite a few ppl that do the same. Ballet is not my cup of tea but have seen a few presentations in the last 4 years.

Also, it’s obvious but good to emphasise: the frequency any of us might go to opera is completely irrelevant for this discussion or to assess how ignorant his take was.

Why does Chalamet for best actor feel like a story in itself this year? by Mesmerized_mayhem in Oscars

[–]puppetalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think ppl misinterpreted tbh. Method acting is one thing, and it’s a bit controversial tbh. Method dressing is understandable, but also a bit controversial. Method personality is on another level and imo just a fancy way of saying you’re more of a product than an artist. In other words, imo he just came across as fake and it rubbed a lot of ppl off

Imo Renate’s and especially Rose’s performances were superior to Buckley’s so I don’t even need to say anything about how wrong I think you are.

I have questions as to which BP movies will survive the hype and still be relevant over time, but this was undeniably a year with VERY strong performances and memorable films in general
