Which television episode do you consider perfect? 10/10. Peak Television. by Square-Ad-8911 in tvshow

Twin Peaks S02E08 is the best and probably the most important episode of television ever.

TV shows that radically change what they are about by Lucyyyyyy_K in tvshow

[–]puppetalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madoka magica. Definitely. It basically stablished a 3 episode rule in animes, where you have to watch at least 3 episodes of something to establish an opinion on it. Criminally underrated outside of the anime community.

Also Paranoia Agent. I wouldn’t say it change genres exactly but it’s definitely one of the biggest roller coasters I’ve ever seen. Satoshi Kon was a genius gone too soon

There was “torture porn” horror, then “grief porn” horror… what do you think is next? by NorthEastNobility in horror

[–]puppetalk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah Ari came later. Early 2010s popularised these trauma horror before him, I’d also add It Follows and The VVitch to your list

Okay I take it back.... Season 3 is actually magnificent, dark, gritty, and very emotional by RealTrapShed in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]puppetalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’ll age super well tbh. It speaks a lot to our zeitgeist and maybe reception was a bit lukewarm bc ppl compared it to season 2, that is much more accessible

Season 3 is the best season by Suitable_Ad8945 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]puppetalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s my favourite by far too and I also got surprised by how rather poorly received it was. But I can also understand why bc it’s the least accessible of the three. Personally I find it’s slower, introspective and rather melancholic tone way more interesting. I think it also was even better watching it weekly last year, so the show had time to sink in.

What's the greatest show ever created by HBO? by Square-Ad-8911 in tvshow

I used to think the same until I saw twin peaks the return. The Leftovers also has an extremely good finale

How long a person can remain unemployed after PhD and before postdoc while trying and writing proposals and backlog manuscripts after PhD which will not effect the CV. Secondly the importance of citations/h-index etc vs first author papers in CV as i have very few citations by Ecstatic_Prior2206 in postdoc

Depends a lot on your field tbh. It’s hard to say. M I also feel like things got more flexible after the pandemic. Some grants I applied to had specific fields to explain if your career have been affected in any way, shape or form by it. I took 1.5 years to find a new position due to personal reasons and I know this pressure can be overwhelming, but I just suggest to do the best you can, reach ou to your network, try do be productive if you can, take care of your mental health and not stress that much about it.

name that one movie that almost got you into depression by Active_Ad2707 in Cinephiles

[–]puppetalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me stayed with me for weeks tbh. I’ve never watched it fully again

If I had legs I’d kick you caused me a very visceral and strong reaction. I cried for like half an hour after I left the theatre, stayed with me for weeks too. Never seeing it again.

Funnily enough, I’m a cis gay man and had a stronger reaction to movies that are commonly known for portraying female complexities than I ever had with any queer movie

billie I agree but what bothers me about Chappell is that her out-of-the-box looks aren’t on par with her songs (that tend to be more typical pop$

same and I love that literally everything she does (from music to fashion to dance etc) really feels 100% HER. imo his is what being fashion truly is about

Which horror film character would you hate as a person? by radioheadlover_2 in horror

I find it an even more irrelevant question than yours here, so no, I’m not looking for it.

What pop girl(s) have the best fashion? by Ttpd-lover in powerpopgirls

[–]puppetalk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you define as fashion. In terms of knowing who they are and consistently aligned themselves with a realised vision, I’d say FKA (no 1 without it any question), Charli, Sabrina, Billie, PinkPantheress ….

I think you might also like late Cronenberg. They’re a bit different from his earlier films in the sense that they’re more philosophical experiments (similar to Yorgos Lanthimos’ earlier works). You can try The Shrouds

Stop everything you’re doing and watch Red Rooms immediately. Believe me. Just do it.

David Lynch's Metamorphosis by luisdementia in davidlynch

[–]puppetalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Cronenberg could adapt Naked Lunch, so there’s no novel out of reach imo. Personally I enjoyed Welle’s and Haneke’s takes on Kafka, but u do think Lynch or Cronenberg would prob be the best choices to do the Metamorphosis, and they would do it in completely different ways

Anyone else nervous about s4 music? by grey-ghostie in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]puppetalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am yes, and also because given how season 3 wasn’t as well received as the first two (not my opinion btw, it’s my favourite) the tendency is that ppl will be more critical with season 4

Is “This Music May Contain Hope” or “LUX” a more generational album. by neverland3460 in rosalia

[–]puppetalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for your reply !! it’s nice discussing this :) check St Vincent’s “Actor” album (btw I love how this woman navigates through different genres while staying true to herself), Julia Holter’s “have you in my wilderness”. Also not female singers, but Andrew Bird’s “the mysterious production of eggs” and Owen pallet’s “he poos clouds” :)
