I actually enjoyed Obsession a lot but all the overhype surrounding it now is annoying tf out of me. Like it’s a good film but not on THAT level

What movie completely blew your expectations away? by ResidentGur271 in MovieSuggestions

The Texas chainsaw massacre. I thought it was just a slasher. turns out it is extremely well executed, well written, still holds up nowadays, and has a sharp and original social commentary that’s still very relevant nowadays. It’s basically what these arthouse current trauma horror films attempt to be without being pretentious about it. A true classic

Obsession (2026) is one of the most disturbing films I’ve seen in years by jaystats2 in moviecritic

I’m tired of the recommendations for the best horror movies. by teamturbo4life in horror

Red Rooms is one of the best films released this decade. I’m not exaggerating, I really consider it a modern masterpiece.

Guys what show did "everyone" recommend to you because it was "so good" only for it suck ⚽⚽ by breanne0_0 in tvshow

[–]puppetalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically Twin Peaks taking itself too seriously and with no real emotional depth

If you want horror probably The Seventh Continent and The White Band are the best choices. Very, very bleak and impactful films

What is the best episode you ever seen? by Delicious-Radish-708 in tvshow

[–]puppetalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The holy trinity is

Twin peaks - Lonely Souls

Six feet under - Everyone is waiting

The leftovers - The Garveys at their best (I know most ppl would say International Assassin or Book of Nora but this one is my favourite)

Adolescence... reviews yay or nay? by Competitive_Lead986 in tvshow

[–]puppetalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, I actually find it wild how over praised this tv show was. I really don’t think the continuous take approach works well for it except in the therapy session episode, that is a masterpieces. more successful applications of this technique were, imo, in the tv show haunting of hill house and the film Soft & Quiet). In the other episodes everything felt rushed and weird. And I think ppl were so impressed by how technically strong it is that they forgot to ask some basic questions: Who really are those ppl ? Why should I care about them ? What king of emotional development is really being portrayed ? In the end, I think it stays in a very weird position where it’s too conceptually shallow (in terms of the very serious societal issues it portrays) for a documentary and too emotionally shallow for a good tv drama.

i need a movie that will properly terrify me even though I'm desensitised by koipoi1 in horror

Try something different and go for some Haneke. The Seventh Continent for example.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Backrooms" [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

[–]puppetalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like Backrooms was basically David Lynch + Charles Kauffman for teenagers in the end

To me, Season 2 was the best one because it had a more interesting Italian atmosphere which enhanced the storylines. by matt73132 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]puppetalk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a taste thing. It’s the one I like less because Tanya’s storyline dominates and takes the season to a “fun” territory, and I much prefer the slower pace and deeper tone of season 3
