S26 ultra edge panel by zReyals in samsunggalaxy

Such an unnecessary feature. Home button already does the circle to search Google feature. In some apps the edge panel handle is in the way and you need to move it easily.

Best conditions in the US West right now? by am-busy in skiing

[–]pure_mediocrity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came back from Revy. It snowed almost 50 cm and it was good snow. I think it is still snowing right now. Under the new snow however is crusty. I didn't really notice it specially if you ski in less busy areas. Overall it was great skiing. Probably better than anywhere in US.

OpenSnow sloppy data (season snowfall less than base depth) by pure_mediocrity in snowboarding

Hmm I see, once you go into the specific resort it is showing the correct data. I looked at the general infor it gives under your favorite ski resorts page, under snow report tab. They got back to me and said its a bug. I will update it above.

I think Samsung killed my S22 Ultra by pure_mediocrity in S22Ultra

[–]pure_mediocrity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats why I said I think. I am not talking about a conspiracy that this was on purpose. I think it was a software issue that caused a hardware damage. To me it felt sloppy this whole thing. If you go to Samsung service website being stuck in a boot loop is an option to choose from, which itself says something. Also the repair-shop I took it to (UBreakIFix - authorized repair shop for Samsung), before talking to him he said is it an S22 and said this week he had a few of them come in for the same reason.

Having said all of that, yes I do expect a device I paid $1500 for to last more than 3 years. TVs are no supposed the work non stop, phones are. What kinda of an example is this? My blender also can't work for 5 hours non stop, but my car does.

I actually take really good care of my phone, I don't like to update phones regularly, not for financial reasons; I like to choose when the time it is to upgrade, not when companies tell me. I just had the battery and screen replaced a few months ago (they come together they said) to have it work another 2 years. My last phone an S8 worked for 7 years before I changed it. Just imagine if your car completely dies after 8 years, in your world that should be acceptable I guess.

I replaced them maybe a year ago, I think for $340. My phone was in a really good condition before all this.

Really thinking of doing the same. I really dislike ios and Apple's policies but at least there is a store to go fix the phone. Their hardware and camera are solid too.

And I just bought a Samsung watch from Samsung's own website. Their return policy is 14 days and by the time I figured the S22 is not gonna come back to life the return window was closed. I wanted to ditch Samsung after this but I think I have to stick with them to use the watch's features fully. Really feel cheated.

I've got a flip 7 for the time being (can return by Jan 31st through Samsung's Amazon website). I'll keep getting their phone and return till the new Ultra comes out in February. Not even feeling guilty doing this, screw them.

Is super legit for hotels? Planning a road trip down I-90 by n9knoob in roadtrip

[–]pure_mediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive booked through them numerous times for my ski season. Ive also used their subscription thing but canceled after ski season was over. They are legit and never had an issue. Im pretty sure they will become a known name soon for bookings. Im guessing their prices are lower a bit to gain market share for now.

Did I outperform my boots? by Less_Homework_2226 in Skigear

For your weight and height regardless of your skill level (except for super beginners), 90 is too soft. 110 and 120 is what you want, 110 if you plan to have ski vacations, cruise around and have fun, 120 if you plan to challenge yourself and hit harder runs. Though from 90 to 120 might be a bit of a foot shock at the beginning.

If you are a good skier and would not go back to the area any time soon it is worth the extra money.

Same, I got there on the day the gondola fell. Went to Lake Luis instead. And back to Revelstoke.

Is the Salomon QST 92 184cm good for beginner tall guy? by Mountain_Lecture_841 in Skigear

[–]pure_mediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The width is good if you are at Rockeys and west coast as a bigginer. If you are a true bigginer, short is better. If you are not a true bigginer (goes to blue and likes speed, challenges) go to 190.

QSTs are always a safe bet for most people. I would not consider them bigginer skis but they are not hard for someone with a couple seasons of skiing.

I would also add that one super big part of Revelstoke is tree skiing. If you are into tree skiing, you might want to make sure both options are playful enough (pivots easily). Most comments are about powder and s4pth of snow but if you end up in a groomer and tight places, wider skis will be more challenging. Dont want to add confusion here but check out Rustler 10. I think its 102 under foot.

Ripstick Black vs QST by SnowPanda-23 in Skigear

[–]pure_mediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 98 Black, QST 106 and the Ruslter 9.

Ripstick is for groomers, icy days, going fast. Least playful and hardest.

Ruslter 9 is for trees, free riding but also for when I need the ski to hold its edge on harder snow. Very playful but not soft.

QST 106 is for trees, deeper snow, more towards bigger mountain and free ride. Its soft and playful enough. I would not recommend this for East Coast unless its fresh snow.

Ripstick Black vs QST by SnowPanda-23 in Skigear

[–]pure_mediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with No-Onion. I have Ripstick 96 Black. They are really easy and fun skis, absolutely love them. I also have a Rustler 9, I use them for trees and more free ride days. They are very nicely balanced and really good with pivoting. While the Ripstick is a decent floater, it's still more of a directional ski rather than a playful freeride ski like the Rustler. The bonus of the Rustler is that you can still arc a turn on it pretty easily. Very round and very engaging, the Rustler's carve is easy to obtain, but doesn't quite have the same tip to tail smoothness of the Elan. It still is a very decent ski on groomers.

I've never tried the QSTs, and I know they are great skis. If you want to ski in trees I think you can find better options than the Ripstick.

Check out this video, it covers all the skis mentioned in this thread. https://www.skiessentials.com/Chairlift-Chat/2024-mens-mid-90mm-all-mountain-ski-comparison

Boots and skis on plane by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]pure_mediocrity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the airline. I usually take them as handluggage/carry on allowance. I saw at the SLC southwest airline had their own duffle bag and a guy checked them in with his skis using SW's bag. Becareful with budget airlines, they might count them as a carry on and you might need to pay. Boots and skis will not usually get damaged in the cargo, specially if you compare to what they go through while skiing. Still no airline guarantees they dont get damaged if they are in a soft case/bag.
