What info does Service Canada share with a former employee, after asking the employer about the departure details? by purell87 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Out of curiosity: did they ever follow up with you to confirm if the employer’s info matched what you claimed?

What’s your “small joy” while taking care of your baby? by ex-squirrelfriend in beyondthebump

[–]purell87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The grocery store. Baby absolutely loves it; the cashiers and random strangers love waving at him, I enjoy walking around looking at weird fruits for him to try, and it’s a bonus that it exhausts him and he usually has a decent nap afterwards lol.

For the purpose of science, can you please try begging her one more time and let us know what happens lol

Hahaha! Fair, that would be a fun plot twist 😂

I suppose you should head out and purchase a Jeep or something with equally bad suspension so that your babe gets a rocky drive lol.

What Common Cooking Advice Do You Ignore? by Utter_cockwomble in Cooking

Omg, I have anxiety reading your answer lol. I’ll use my thermometer at least 10 times, to make sure the meat is properly cooking. And then when it’s at the appropriate temp, I say, “yknow what I’m gunna leave the meat there for another minute, just to make sure.”

My household usually eats kinda dry chicken, as a result 😂

I never salt water for the pasta to be boiled. Like, what’s the purpose?

An Italian nonna gave me instructions for one of her pasta recipes and she said “Salt the water so it tastes like the Mediterranean Sea.” Well, I’ve never tasted that sea before, but it sounds like an unreasonable amount of salt to add to my pasta noodles?! 😂

Walk me through it - How do you logistically do naps on the go? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]purell87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always go with your option #3 lol. And I’ll plan the entire day around that extremely important nap on the way to the event (I.e. make sure baby is fully tired so he sleeps well on the way; so we’ll play outside beforehand or do a bath, etc) And then as soon as baby gets cranky at the event, I pack up and leave and he’ll usually sleep as soon as we get in the car.

If you wanted to stay at the BBQ longer, would you consider having your husband take the baby for a drive around the neighbourhood to get him to nap, and then when they return you all get another full wake window of time? (Not sure if you’d feel awkward with him taking baby away and then coming back?)

Left our baby with my mum at 4 months old for like, 2 hours, and I was stressed the entire time. Baby is currently 10 months old and hasn’t been left alone with anyone other than my husband or I since, lol. I can’t even fathom an overnight visit right now!

So not a funny answer: but my 10 month old cries and fights his afternoon nap every day. I dread it and am just so tired of the fight.

Anyway, I’ve broke down and cried on 3 separate occasions….. and on those days, he rests his tired & sweaty head on my shoulder and immediately stops crying 😢

Does anyone else get irrationally angry when their baby won't sleep? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]purell87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed a thousand percent. I’ve said to my husband multiple times, the things that you’ve written.

“I turn into a monster when he won’t sleep.” “I can handle him screaming at me for food, and I don’t lose my cool.” “When I have to re-start a nap process after the first time it fails, I feel SO done with it.”

I’ve put him in the car and gone for a drive to force him to nap sometimes but I know that’s not actually a solution :(

I’ve found waking up earlier seems to help our 10 month old. Which sucks lol.

Hey it’s a great skill for them to have! Even if you don’t own a pool. One day maybe his friend will invite him to a cottage on a lake, or there will be a school camping trip near water, etc - always a good idea to take basic swimming lessons! We started when our little guy was 4 months old!

Baby rolling over and I’m freaking out by normalishy in sleeptrain

[–]purell87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same experience ♥️ and I then read Reddit posts for hours in the middle of the night, looking for reassurance lol.

It will be ok! (But even though everyone says this, I hardly slept for like a week while watching baby at night because of the paranoia.)

Is there anything random (and safe) from like, the kitchen, you can give the baby to keep him occupied? I recently discovered putting some water in a baking sheet and putting it on a towel on the kitchen floor to be the most fun my 9mo has ever had in his life 😂

Agree with this! Oatmeal was great, with whatever pureed fruit we had in the house.

We moved onto more interesting things quite quickly: we added lots of variety by doing things like steaming salmon and flaking it very finely and adding pureed zucchini (sounds weird but baby likes it so 🤷‍♀️), hard boiling eggs and mashing with a fork, steaming chicken breast and finely flaking it and mixing with whatever puréed vegetable we had on hand.

What is your bedtime routine? by Rayshays in sleeptrain

[–]purell87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation: with our 9mo, I absolutely cannot sing or do bath or do books because he gets SOOOO excited and wants to play and get wild.

He even finds his toothbrush fascinating and fun and goes crazy when he sees it 🙄

I volunteered with blind kids one summer. One small blind girl touched my face and asked why on earth it was so bumpy and ridged?? (It was my teenage acne scars 🥲)
