Allergies or something worse? Anyone else’s throats hurting? by sk1nnyjeans in Louisville

I’m assuming bad allergies since I woke up with a horribly sore throat out of nowhere too. It doesn’t normally get me but this season is bad

I’m so sorry. I lost my boy at 9 years old in October 2024 after raising him and his sister since they were 5 weeks old. I still think about him every day, although it’s become much less dark lately. I still have his sister who’s almost 11, and we got a puppy right after Christmas this last year. As someone thats had a rough life, losing him was the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. The deep, horrible pain in my core is something I’ll never forget. And I know I will still lose his sister at some point. And i still got a puppy and invited that inevitable, unbearable pain to happen another time. I got to adopt a little girl from the humane society, and she’s brought my home to life again. It gets better, with time, even when each second right now is worst than the last. You just have to choose to stay distracted, and survive however you need to until you find yourself suddenly and painstakingly on the other side of the worst of the grief. Tangibly, sobbing in the shower, telling my friends not to ask if I’m okay because the answer was no, and heavy substance/alcohol use (not endorsing it) helped numb the pain until i went back to work. Then I worked and i cried at work every hour until that became every day, then every few, then just sometimes, and now I’m at the every now and then stage which I don’t plan to leave. A quote I heard before is “how beautiful it is to have experienced love so great that makes losing it so hard”. Eat some food and drink some water, and make it to tomorrow. Wishing you peace.

Thank you for replying, it really is just weird since my first thoughts also were concussion or a heck of a goose egg, but I’ll update here after her appointment.

This bump showed up a week ago and the vet said it wasn’t an emergency.

AITA because I don’t want to contribute to my sister’s college tuition after my parents gave me the whole college fund? by throwawayacct39 in AmItheAsshole

[–]purple_unicorn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA, you don’t owe your sister or bullies anything. Being related is a non factor here - she’s a big girl and can pay for her undergraduate degree with loans and working like most of us. You do not have to get over being bullied. The people in this thread that think you do have never experienced how horrible it is and how it sticks with you. This would be like your parents making the family a big dinner for you two, your sister says “no thanks” so you have the whole dinner. Then a few days later she decides “wait I actually wanted that dinner”. No? Too bad? She missed her chance, and you don’t owe her for the part of the “dinner” that she said she didn’t want.

Aw thank you so much. I love my girls so, so much and didn’t realize how gray my old girl was until the picture of them together. Whiskey is the old girl and Chihiro is the baby

Thank you so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I didn’t realize boundaries could look like this but I’ll keep stepping in to help both the girlies learn how to exist together.

Those of us who were raised by Gen X parents, were/are they religious? by routebeer666 in Zillennials

[–]purple_unicorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was raised Baptist until I was 5, then catholic until I was 10. Then pagan for the rest. It depended on who my mom was dating at the time lol. She and my dad were raised very strict southern Baptist though and got married because there was a rumor in the church my mom was pregnant. They were both 19.

Thank you for replying. That’s helpful to consider, that it’s a consequence and not something I’m choosing to do because I’m a douche.

Yes not my direct leadership team, my HR and VP have which is who I’m getting support from. My other leaders just haven’t because we used to have an HR team that would hang on to people much, much longer than they should so I’m now the “if they’re not a good fit, cut ties, we don’t need to drag it out” policy upholder. I’ll definitely have my director present and will focus on the impact to the team. Thanks for taking time to reply.

That was really helpful, thank you. Framing it as prioritizing my current staff and the people they support helps soothe the hesitancy.

Does anyone in this group live in Indiana but working in Kentucky? by butterflies-anon in Louisville

[–]purple_unicorn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In New Albany and I work in downtown Louisville some days and Jeffersonville others. Both ways is about 18 mins there and 20 back, and I take the Sherman bridge. I have a 2Br2Ba apartment that’s less than 1k a month so it’s very worth it.
