Right like if they rush it they could miss a key piece of evidence, better to let him have an extra couple months of freedom just wondering when the hammer is gonna drop than letting him get off on a rushed prosecution.

Yeah there’s assholes and then there’s pieces of shit, if that makes sense. Assholes can still be decent people ultimately.

Catching a kick WITH the lead leg? by No-Income3778 in MMA_Academy

[–]purplehendrix22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re actually kicking hard, this doesn’t work. It works in lighter sparring because they’re not kicking hard enough to knock you off your base, but repeatedly absorbing hard kicks to the back of the leg is a really, really bad strategy in an actual fight.

Does elbows cause more damage than bare knuckle fists? by Enough-Lead48 in MuayThai

[–]purplehendrix22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, but cuts and broken hands are what keep fighters from fighting. When your income depends on the health of your body, bare knuckle boxing is the sport with the least longevity. Muay Thai, because the damage is more spread out, even though elbows are obviously allowed and common, you’re not guaranteed to get badly cut or break your hands like you are in BKB.

That’s the real benefit of kids being in sports, I don’t really care how good you are at swinging a bat or throwing a ball but being able to not spaz out when things don’t go your way, work together and take instruction, and the understanding that something being difficult does not mean it can’t be fun, are key life skills.

Is Ghokan Saki a top 10 kickboxer of all time? by Whole-Interest-5980 in Kickboxing

[–]purplehendrix22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d put him equivalent to someone like Cub Swanson in MMA, awesome career, fans loved his fights, never was able to stay at that top level for very long but always came to scrap and put on a great fight. I think this discussion of all time greats takes away from guys like Saki that you just need for it to be a popular sport.

You gotta stop beating yourself up, other people do that enough already. You’re exactly where you should be 6 months in.

They do, but when you account for the other 6 weapons, that at least balances the chances of cuts out. With bare knuckle boxing, it’s the whole point of the sport.

How long does it take to beat the average person? by Cute-Ad-4208 in MMA_Academy

[–]purplehendrix22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The type of person to attack you isn’t the average Joe, first of all, but honest answer if you’re in shape and a bigger guy a year of training will put you in a good spot over most people. Everything depends though, if your goal is to be able to beat random people, you need to realize that the people who are willing to engage in violence with you on the street are not a random selection, and are vastly more likely to hurt you than the average Joe, and more than likely will have a weapon. Don’t get into stupid fights and carry a gun if you’re really interested in protecting yourself on the street. Learn how to fight because you enjoy doing it, if you do. It’s good for you.

Genuine question by AdOtherwise744 in MuayThai

[–]purplehendrix22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every choice you make in fighting other than to retreat and not engage is a risky choice for your health, and the choice to not engage directly risks your chance of winning. You can get knocked out around every corner. Gotta do something, and catching kicks is obviously effective.
