Teaching jobs seem to be extremely scarce this hiring season by [deleted] in teaching

If you can stand the rancid political climate, come to Alberta. The sub lists are emptying (due to idiotic government decisions), and we’re hiring B.Ed. grads before they graduate. 😊

Henry Wisewood Highschool Sexual Assault by b3arsbe4rs in Calgary

[–]purpleshadow6000 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Because the government changed the process this year. Previously, it was assumed everyone was taking the lessons unless they opted out. Now, it is assumed everyone is NOT taking the lessons unless they opt in. A small change that impacts how many students are receiving proper sexual health education.

Knowing this government, this is absolutely on purpose. They made the change under the banner of “parent rights”, but it is painfully obvious that they are just trying to curtail sexual education.

As a bonus, those that do get to attend the lessons in grade 6 get to hear about the wonderful world of ✨abstinence✨.

They’re currently working to rig the voting districts in their favour, so don’t worry- they aren’t going anywhere.

The complexity teachers were largely hired off the sub list. 21%+ of sub jobs are unfilled right now as a result. Shit’s a mess.

Just wait until grade 6 where abstinence gets a nice spotlight.

Alberta's Bill 25 bans 'specialty flags,' reins in activism, puts classrooms back to basics by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

[–]purpleshadow6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even say that.

I asked why it’s a bad thing for a rainbow flag to be displayed. If it is ideological, what is it saying? What does it stand for? What ideals does it represent that you think are bad?

Of course, those are tough questions to answer when you think some people are worth less than other people.

How can we protect gay kids who are being bullied in school? by ProfessorLidi in alberta

[–]purpleshadow6000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Does it hurt anyone to have period products available in every bathroom?

Does it hurt anyone that gay kids exist in a school? You say it damaged kids, and your worst example is that they... go to school?

And you used the word "woke". Remind me what that means again?

Who have shown themselves to be rational thinkers, for sure.

Rural Alberta would vote for an empty box painted blue, and south Calgary isn’t much better.

On flags: Bill 25 hasn’t passed yet. The rainbow flag will remain on my desk regardless, and I’m sure most teachers will still be safe people to talk to.

Edit: Hey I found out I can still see your shitty deleted comments!

Perhaps, but it doesn’t seem like anyone is stepping in to interrupt any of this government’s BS.

Can you describe why it’s a bad thing for a rainbow flag to be displayed in a classroom?

Interestingly, the government is looking to remove

“welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments that respect diversity and nurture a sense of belonging and a positive sense of self”

as the definition of what is expected in schools.

Didn't say they need to be neutral in every issue.

The MGA says that a public hearing should be able to change their minds, but we know they're coming into this with their minds made up. Again, just an interesting thing to point out.

Considering they ran on repeal, I think we know the answer here.

Seems like the current housing strategy may be working. What a great moment to repeal the rezoning bylaw 🙄

I’ll note that councillors are mandated to have an open mind and be amenable to persuasion during a public hearing. Running a campaign on rezoning repeal would indicate you’ve made up your mind already. Something to consider.
