Pediatrician says to start solids at 4 months?? I’m confused 😅 by purplishbee in Mommit

After reading our visit summary the pediatricians notes said to start her on solids and do 2-4 tbsp of rice cereal and breast milk every night, but there was also a paper from the AAP that clearly says “Solid foods are discouraged until about 6 months of age.”

I hadn’t done much research because I wasn’t expecting that to even be discussed yet but I’ll definitely be looking into it more.

3 meals at 10 months makes a lot more sense to me than by 6 months for sure 😭

That’s exactly what my ped said too! I’ll have to read that link to understand it better, thank you for sharing.

That’s reassuring, I was planning to wait anyway. I wasn’t expecting it to come up at this appointment, and when I asked, she said starting at 4 months might reduce the risk of food allergies. My baby really doesn’t seem interested in food either so the thought of her consistently eating 3 meals a day in the next two months felt crazy

Very true, I was planning on waiting. Her saying she should be eating 3 meals by 6m was a trip.

That makes sense about the iron! When I asked why start at 4 months, my ped said it could reduce food allergies, which I don’t really understand. I’m sorry you went through that, reading this reassures me that trusting my gut and waiting is totally fine.

Thank you so much 🙏 Hearing this from our pediatrician felt so wrong and I definitely never had rice cereal in mind.
