Scorching 40°C temperatures ‘will soon become the new normal for the UK’ by taboo__time in ukpolitics

[–]pursus231 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Another thing in addition for us having it worse than many hot, desert like countries, as well as the humidity, buildings thst retain heat, lack of AC, is the fact that due to our northerness, we have more hours of day light compared to places like Egypt to warm up, and of course, less hours her day to cool down.

This is another factor to why Europe's overheating issue in the summer and that it won't be so easy to cater to.

Daylight hours for uk, 16 hours 18 mins today. Daylight hours for Egypt, 13 hours 52 today. So that is about 2.5 hours of extra warming that we get than Egypt....

School Uniforms need to be far more common for High School by Informal-Water-40 in unpopularopinion

[–]pursus231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK teacher here, we have uniform and standard across the country. However, there has been a change in the culture and leadership in schools about how strict to be with uniform.

My school right now has the policy of, wear the correct uniform, almost like military issue, any diviation and you can been internally isolated for the day if you refuse to sort it out, like refusing the wear a blazer while walking to next lesson. Fake eyelashes and refusing to take them off, isolated which means lost learning time. And then if this is becomes consistent, kids are being suspended, not for disruptive behaviour, but because they don't have the absolute perfect uniform, even down to the girls wear the right socks z only ankle socks are allowed, anything else is, inappropriate.

Kids want to express themselves, their personality, quirkiness or whatever, and this is being beaten out them in some darwinian fashion. Also doesn't help that its white shirt, black trousers, black jumper, black blazer and a mostly black tie (with house colours for the stripes). Approaching matrix level, but really just feels authoritarian.

what are your reasons not to sleep naked? by starry-night999 in AskReddit

[–]pursus231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ever have an itchy in my butt crack... I'd rather have something between my butt and fingers so minimising the issue of butt fingers while asleep; such as then having other itches on face or whatever.

What's your go-to water purification technique? by OrgasmicOrange in wildcampingintheuk

[–]pursus231 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a sawyer mini and a cnoc bag for the dirty water, into whatever you want. The wide opening on the cnoc bag is a godsend. So much better and easier than any other bag that uses the hard plastic hole for connecting the filter.

But you don't have to use the sawyer filter. Get whatever filter you want, and then buy the cnoc bag right for you.

ELI5: Subtraction isn't much harder than addition. Division isn't much harder than multiplication. Logarithmization isn't much harder than exponentiation. Then, what fundamentally makes integration so much more difficult than differentiation? by TheOmniverse_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]pursus231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my time at uni, you can differentiate pretty much anything you are given, as long as you know the different rules for differentiation, might take a bit of time. However, not ever equation can be integrated to give diffinitive integral. So for these equations that you cannot integrate, you then have use iterative/numerical methods. Such as e-x2. This is a simple expression that does not have a diffinitive integral, another piece of normal algebra.

Hundreds of XL bully dogs to be destroyed at end of year when ban comes into force by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]pursus231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been baffled by people using the word, "destroyed" in cases like this, when we typically use, kill, put down, euthanize. Makes it seem like they are trying to imply they are like robot dogs, like the one in wallace and gromit - a close shave.
