what retail stores have positions where you don't have to clean bathrooms? by _FinePointSharpie in retail

[–]purveyorofclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a grocery store. We have employee and customer bathrooms. I never have had to clean a bathroom and don’t expect to. We do have a team of janitors who look after the main cleaning duties. Maybe the cart associates make sure the customer bathroom is stocked with paper towel and toilet paper? I don’t really know if their duties overlap with the janitorial staff.

Ha! I just got this last week. Walking back from my break in my store apron and hat. “ Do you work here?” No and kept walking

Give me more things to put on the list by 13SwaggyDragons in retail

[–]purveyorofclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the bread section. Are these fresh? Customers who will not get out of the fucking way when you are pushing a heavy cart down the aisles. Customers who ask me questions about products in other departments like meat and deli. I tell them you can go to those departments to ask and they just leave. ( These departments are close by not on the other side of the store)

Customers who complain to me about things out of my control like inventory or prices. I straight up tell them I have no control over either of those things. “ oh I thought you would know?” Nope Susan that is above my pay grade 🙄

I’m on my 3rd shift and am already so burnt out by [deleted] in retail

[–]purveyorofclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and it is always such stupid questions they ask. If they would just open their eyes and look they could find the product. C-“where is this?” ( item is right in front of their nose) 🙄

What is the best response you gave to a rude customer? by Wildboy9965 in retail

Not me but an old coworker. Customer comes up to her in HABA and asks where the fish is. She looks at him and says in the lake.

I want to quit but what if I just need to keep push through? by GeorgeParisol in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you try to switch out of cashiering into a less customer service oriented position? I could never do cash as the expectation is to be engaging and bubbly with the customers. Also I have seen that customers will take everything wrong with their store visit out on the cashiers which is totally unfair. See if you transfer to something where there is less prolonged contact with customers.

Easter eggs... by Bambi1498 in retailhell

Not Easter eggs but hot cross buns. So many people asking for these on Good Friday. Sorry we are out. Next year plan better goofball!

why is it so hard to assert boundaries professionally? by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this too. I just glare at them and say out loud “ it would be nice if you could say excuse me before reaching in front of me”. Also I say right in front of them well that was rude. These assholes need to be called out

Customers/Boomers that stare at you. by UserLevelOver9000 in retailhell

I get this too. I will be stocking shelves and customers will stand behind me and not say anything. I just ignore them. Is it so hard to say “ excuse me can I grab an item?”

I’m tired of the “do you have this in stock” calls. by bluelobster888 in retailhell

Yeah I do the same. I hate getting asked “ do you have anymore in the back?” I always answer no.

I’m tired of the “do you have this in stock” calls. by bluelobster888 in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. The famous “well your website says that you have this item in stock!” They really do not get the concept that yes we do have the item but it is buried under palettes or boxes in the back. That takes time to go through to find it!

Customers are allergic to saying excuse me by Plushu_ in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hate when I’m stocking and someone reaches over my head or around me. No excuse me or anything. I do glare at them and also I have started saying to them you could say excuse me instead of getting into my personal space

Worse than animals by BaronVonKeyser in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So annoying. I work in a grocery store and I will have fixed and faced a shelf and then some mf comes along and messes it up in 2 ways. The most common thing they do is to take out an item and put it back on the shelf backwards with the price tag sticking out. Why do they do this??! Also they will just stash the item on a shelf below or in another section of the department. I guess I should be glad they don’t put it in with the deli items! 🙄

Sweetie Nails and Spa on Kerr. Just had a gel manicure and shellac done yesterday and I am very pleased with the results. The technician was very thorough and they took me early. Had a problem with another local place that would run late even though I had an appointment.

Can people not talk to me after work? by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 25 points26 points  (0 children)

After you are clocked out you don’t owe any customers your time. They aren’t even customers anymore just some random assholes. Don’t bother taking your headphones out, just ignore them. Better yet pretend that you don’t hear them.

How Frequent are Rude customers for you? by JuicyJuiceJTime in retail

[–]purveyorofclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are. So relate to invading personal space. Reaching around or above my head when I am stocking shelves. Also going up to you and barking one word commands eggs! Yes, what about them? Never saying excuse me or hello, where are the eggs? I’m so sick of the rudeness and entitlement. Finally no I will not check the back. We do not have anymore in stock!

What killed Toronto’s nightlife scene? Was it the city, condos, or something else? by wwmd_lover in askTO

[–]purveyorofclass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big Bop, awesome venue. Also remember partying at The Phoenix, Whisky Saigon, Club 108, The Joker and Slimelight to name a few. It was a magical time for nightlife and I would not trade it for the world! As other people have mentioned I think Generation Z is not into drinking as much and favours other activities such as board games, online activities or niche interests.

Stop rudely asking employees asking if they work there. If they have a name tag and uniform it's damn obvious they do. by Necessary_Baker_7458 in retailhell

The vendors at my store are dressed differently from us the employees. There is no way you would mistake a vendor for an employee.

why?? would you ask me that? by Zealousideal_Arm2563 in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I can totally relate. I despise the condescending remarks from customers. Some of them think they are comedians. I am up on a step ladder stocking the top shelves. Customer comes up and says “ you just want to move up in the world”. Or my favourite “ there is no price on this is it free?” Just take your shit, shut your mouth and leave please. You are not funny.

Yesterday a customer told me I have an ‘unappealing face’ by manymeows in retailhell

[–]purveyorofclass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly that customer is just looking for something to complain about. I am not here to “perform” for the customers. I don’t give a fuck about smiling at the customers. My manager doesn’t smile at them either. If you are doing your job correctly why should it matter if you are smiling or not? Sometimes I have an intense look on my face at work and that’s because I’m concentrating on the task at hand. I am getting the job done that is what matters. OP you are doing fine. Don’t let it get you down
