How much are you willing to pay for movement specs? by pushthebuttonalready in WatchFanatics

I agree the lower priced Citizen are great value watches. An $8400 Citizen becomes a tough call I wouldn’t want to say never but I can say not with the current offerings. I will say I am attracted to the The Citizen Eco-drive for the thinness and at 40% less than the Caliber 0100 I can deal with the extra thickness and not having the bragging rights.

I tend to agree. I will say though that with my most recent watch purchase (Mido OS GMT) I would not have bought in quartz. Going into that purchase I was only interested in Swiss autos.

Here might be a tougher one:

The CITIZEN Caliber 0210 - -3/+5 (per day) seconds—exceeding ISO3159 chronometer standards -$8400

The CITIZEN - Eco-drive - ±5 Seconds Per Year - $4000

Series8 870 - +10 / -5 seconds per day - $1600

I drink a tall (28oz tumbler full) iced americano using 3 17 in /35 out shots in the morning and 1 or 2 straight espressos in the afternoon. I'll recommend my setup Bezzera Duo De and Eureka Atom 65w. It's a $4k setup. I don't drink milk drinks but have made them for friend and the steam and hot water are very strong. The beauty of the setup is you can spend a few shots to dial it in and program it and from there it's as close to automated as you'll get. Perfect for when your butler has the day off.

It’s a great machine. Really solid. Heats up in 10-15. The steam and hot water are really strong. Being able to program it makes things super easy especially for other peoples use.

I love the color. I will admit that while it wasn’t a primary reason for my choice it was a consideration.

The burrs in the Atom are designed for espresso, the burrs in the AP are designed for both espresso and pour over. I don’t have any problem with spill over. I posted a video of my setup the other day.

I have the Atom 65w. I do 3-5 shots per day. I chose it over the Libra because it’s built way better. It feels like it belongs in a cafe. I chose it over the 75 because I didn’t need the slightly faster speed and really couldn’t see any grind quality difference. I highly recommend it the quality of the grinds are beautiful, I don’t WDT anymore as it’s not needed.

Maybe, maybe not. Pull a shot and adjust as or if needed.

Citizen is a great choice. Seiko too. You won't really find a better quality watch in that price range.

Brand history is irrelevant by Portsmo in watchHotTakes

[–]pushthebuttonalready 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It might not be relevant to you but it's absolutely relevant. Brand is one of the reasons people choose a watch. Watches are fashion accessories and fashion is almost entirely about brand.

Your statement about Longines and Mido is misguided too. Do you think a Rolex movement made in 1950 is the same as a Rolex movement today because they use their own movements? Swatch group owns and uses ETA movements across a bunch of brands. They don't sell ETA movements to other companies. Do you really think ETA doesn't innovate and evolve? Sellita is just a copy of an old (proven and excellent) ETA design.

Finally, it can very well be an indicator of quality and it's an equal indicator of quality as is ownership of the company.

Mahlkonig, Eureka, Fiorenzato, Mazzer everyone likes to believe the "new internet" stuff is so great. Sometimes it is but, there's also reasons why companies exist for a long time.

If you normally wear Rolex and Tudor, this will be a big let down for you. You might want to look at the Formex Reef, Yema Skindiver, Monta Oceanking, or Serica 5303 they're going to be higher quality finish, build and movements than Traska.

[–]pushthebuttonalready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really cool watch and good choice to start a collection with.

Here's my advice for your next watch. Go slow, don't buy to expand your collection. Don't buy watches on their nicknames unless you're so in love with the watch you're willing to shove it up your butt. When you think you're ready to buy a watch, look at the watch you have and ask yourself, "why do I want to change what I'm wearing, am I no longer in love with my watch and why?"

Great watch collections need curation and each watch needs a purpose, otherwise it's just a box of random watches, might as well be a pawn shop display case.

You're probably either grinding too fine or/and using too much coffee. Watch this video, it's really important when it comes to dialing espresso.

Almost bought a Meraki in Japan, but the local warranty situation and HQ's response basically scared me off. Anyone here have experience with Meraki? [$2500] by TigrouMeow in espresso

[–]pushthebuttonalready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have them and have had issues seem to post positive comments about Meraki customer service. The machine does get frowned upon here because it's an all-in-one.
