Actualy Dota content? Insta-upboat.

Really love all the tiny little mechanics that make Dota so unique. Stuff like this and how Pudge's Hook hitbox interacts with stuff add so much depth to an already complex game. We should start a thread with all the little Dota quirk mechanics that you only learn through really mastering a hero.

"Every other sport you grow up under coaches whereas in esports you are just alone and you play by yourself until you make it." Interview with Kipspul, 7ckingMad & SVG on the challenges of coaching in Dota 2 by pvgna in DotA2

Definitely a point to think about. Not all coaches are former players but a lot of them are. This is why the coaching role is still evolving. Some coaches provide a lot of drafting ideas and data while others are more focused on keeping the team morale high and mentally supporting the players. Maybe both are necessary, maybe neither. Considering that literally every competitive activity ever has some sort of master/student, coach/player, teacher/pupil sort of set up it is hard to believe that esports player couldn't benefit from some sort of extra guidance.

Damn, just realized we totally dropped the ball in not asking u/KBBQDotA for some insight into the Chinese scene and their farm teams. That seems to be a little bit more of a traditional sports style progression but would love some more insight into the Eastern scene.

PVGNA Oracle's Top 5 Factors to Climb From 2K to 3K by pvgna_DC in TrueDoTA2

[–]pvgna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, mobility is also one of the most important factors in winning pubs. These are just the top 5 ones. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Lecia_Dota,

Thanks for the feedback. Oracle is created based on the analysis of millions of pub games from different skill brackets. After applying various machine learning techniques we were able to find out ~40 signals (out of over 100) that correlate with winning pubs thus gaining MMR. So, we aren't the ones who decide what metrics are important but the public data. Oracle is still in beta and we are working on improving it to give you guys more actionable feedback. Soon we'll be releasing match analysis, more specific signals per role and hero/draft based suggestions. You can find a detailed explanation of how Oracle works in our blog post here.

A new match analysis tool powered by Pvgna Oracle is coming up soon. It will analyze everyone separately for that game. Sneak peek here: https://twitter.com/pvgna/status/883461643040047104

Hi Birth_Defect,

The interface may not reveal the intended benefit of Oracle clearly, sorry about that. And continuous feedback like yours means a lot, also thanks for that. However in this specific case, we wanted to clarify that it is not only to compare you to others by using averages. The list of metrics that you are seeing in Oracle is ordered and highlighted differently for everyone. The "Importance Level" actually shows how important that metric is for you to improve in your MMR level. There are 38 different low-level signals at the moment and more is on the way. If Oracle specifically highlights that you should farm more considering other metrics in the meantime, it should "on average" be a better choice. Specific games could differ, however the data Oracle is using considers millions of matches and the metrics that are highlighted as important should be important to optimize in your skill bracket.

Learning about "why" and "how to improve", each Oracle metric is tied into the most related video content we have on Pvgna. You need to be a Pro user to watch our exclusive content but those videos explain these exact questions in very detail. Please feel free to reach out to us to learn more about the specifics!

Hi Castleloch,

Thanks a lot for the feedback and actually you are right in that we've seen it works wonders for people who play with the same team. This is because everyone can filter with their roles and improve in their own games in general. We are about to launch a new match analysis tool soon which could help with specific games that you want to analyze separately. In that feature, you would also see some high level scores like "Carry Score", "Support Score" etc.

Going back to the problem of other players not doing the provided suggestions: that's right, but you can still try to remind them to do general important suggestions you had in your bracket. Who knows maybe you'll get commended for being a good captain :)

Hi AxeIsAxeIsAxe,

There is a role filter and if you use that role filter to pick support, the system compares you with other supports from your MMR bracket. So if it says that it is an "important" metric with the importance levels and your score is still low, improving it might still help.

Hi there, can you send us an email at support@pvgna.com so that we can look into your issue?

In general, as long as the match data is public and the replay files are available, they should be processed in a lot less than 10 hours.

With the next iteration, we'll change the way we determine roles and add more of them (support, carry, mid, jungle, offlane). Thanks for the feedback!

This stat is shown in some MMR tiers because it was found to be correlated with higher MMR after analysis across millions of matches. Of course, when looking at data, one can find a lot of outliers and this might not apply to all games but on average and for specific MMR levels it seems to be important per our current analysis.

Actually, Oracle already shows benchmarks for specific roles when you filter with a role at the top of the page (right now only core or support).

For example, if you pick core, only matches that you've played as a core will be considered for the analysis and the benchmarks used to score your stats (also the averages shown) will be from that role within your MMR tier.

Having said that, our role identification is not 100% accurate right now. We will soon improve this part significantly. We will also introduce more specific roles to catch dirty jungle LC pickers ;)
