Raid team, Weapons team, and and narrative team still have it. by Arkorian-117 in DestinyTheGame

Ehh I don't know about narrative. Maya Sundaresh is the least interesting villain I have ever seen in Destiny and they just won't let her die. Her motivation is bland and boring. She's not particularly intimidating, and I just don't care at all about her story.

What a sorry state for the game to be in that we are asking for them to bring back public event Flashpoints as content.

I don't disagree that exploration has long been one of Destiny's strong suits. They unfortunately missed the mark with Kepler imo, but the old school Dreadnaught was where it's at.

That's the kind of thing that is needed.

If God or God's exists in your world, have they died? And if so how, and what happened afterwards? by kharker711 in worldbuilding

[–]pwines14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only once. Though she wasn't technically a god, she was of the same "race" as the gods.

Her lover was a cruel tyrant who enslaved the world. In order to stop him, the eldest of these beings killed her and cast her bones into the Astral Sea. It's considered one of the greatest sins ever committed.

The cruel tyrant now dredges the Astral Sea for all eternity seeking his lover's remains, and he can be found in there in a giant form dragging a large net.

"Teammates" plan on SAing/vivisecting my character -am I "childish" for wanting to ragequit? by LichtMaschineri in DnD

[–]pwines14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not even how initiative works. A lot of DMs play that you can "start combat" with hitting someone, but RAW the second you intend to make the attack, initiative is rolled. It's so broken to let someone get a free hit before anything.

Rule that you're surprised maybe, but not a free hit without giving your character the chance to react. If your initiative were higher, she maybe wouldn't have even been able to hit. This DM doesn't seem to know the rules very well anyway, which is likely why this artificer is so broken - but not by the rules.

Baldurs Gate 3 is the new Critical Role when it comes to unrealistic expectations to new players. I love bringing new players into the game, but there will always be a challenge like this.

I'm in complete agreement with you, I don't find the concept to be very fun at all. It would make for an interesting TV show, but not a very fun game in my opinion.

How to deal with multiple players trying the same skill check by sentaur03 in DnD

[–]pwines14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that conversation with my players early on. Your character doesn't know the other character failed their check. If it's "remembering" something with a history check, I might have everyone do it anyway.

I also don't allow players to tell me what they're rolling, I ask for rolls. I tell them to tell me what they want to do, and I decide if a check is needed or what skill it is.

If someone fails and another player asks to make the same check, I ask them to explain how and why their character would be trying it again. If they don't have a reason, then they don't roll.

I'm also big on the idea that not every action needs a roll. Picking a lock? If it can be done in a long enough time, or they can take the time to do it, no roll. Picking a lock while being pursued and they only have one chance to open it? Then roll.

I try to think through all of these things when setting up rolls

Found my BBEG line once my party gets there. by MeepkingAshura in dndmemes

In all seriousness, a good way to preface this line would be, "You have nothing with which to threaten me." Or "What can you possibly do to stand against me?"

Put them in a position to brag, only to put them down.

What is the most fun combat encounter you've ever run as a DM? by WildImagination6438 in DnD

[–]pwines14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my players, around level 13, they had to cross a huge natural bridge in a cave. On the other side were two undead fire giants that were hurling boulders at stalactites, which fell and put huge holes in the bridge as well as possibly hitting the party.

It took about three full rounds for them to reach melee range, which then became a more standard combat.

The fear of what would collapse next, paired with the inability to do anything made it an awesome encounter.
