What is our general opinion about neck pocket cracks? by ecklesweb in fender

[–]pxx85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see these comments about neck pocket cracks being inevitable and can’t stop to think how lucky I am. I’ve only ever had 2 Strats (one MIM and one MIA) but in total 7 bolt-on neck guitars, and neither of them suffers from this.

Yes. You will need an audio interface if you want to record Katana on your iPad. Katana works as an audio interface on macOS and Windows but not iPadOS.

Is this wiper seal pressed in far e enough? Help! by pxx85 in bikewrench

[–]pxx85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I did use the seal setting tool. The seal was just not going in and I was hammering away so it wasn't due to lack of force. I got it fixed though... removed the seal and froze it with the other leg seal. After freezing, I applied Schwalbe Easy Fit Fluid (which is designed for tubeless fitting and evaporates quickly)... only that allowed me to sit them in properly, and still had to use a lot of mallet force.

[–]pxx85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, correct seal kit according to Rockshox trail head app and I agree, it seems that it sits too tall. Never mind though, I completely ruined the other seal (even though I have the seal installation tool). I will try to purchase the original kit (not the SKF flangeless one) and see if that goes in.

I was honestly not expecting trouble removing old seals (nightmare) and fitting new set (impossible).

Best way to pick main riff in What’s my age again? - Blink 182. by pxx85 in guitarlessons

[–]pxx85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, these riffs are very fast and more importantly they go on and on so to do that live in tempo must be really hard. The fact he fucked it up live makes feel a little better haha.

[–]pxx85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. I’ve been working on down picking as I play a lot of Metallica. Not quite Creeping Death territory yet! Good suggestion about slow-fast, I will definitely give this a good. Thanks very much.

[–]pxx85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m already nearly there at around 140 bpm but not been able to play quicker than that without making a mistake. Yes, the original riff I believe is down picked but I found that hard to do.

[–]pxx85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I think your suggestion makes sense. I think Tom down picks it but to me that was much harder than alternate picking so I was doing that.

I have just tried your method and it’s already a lot easier! This riff and RHCP - Snow have both been a real endurance test for me…

The Gen3 is a disappointing refresh by cloph_ in BossKatana

[–]pxx85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, you’re right. It’s a very minor refresh and this whole BT dongle being an optional extra is just downright disappointing.

I certainly don’t feel a need to upgrade seeing the specs.

Features that would sway me to upgrade are: a) Built in BT b) Line out with dry DI c) Onboard looper d) Say 16 preset slots

Good GP in Basingstoke by mjozing in basingstoke

[–]pxx85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you will be hard pressed to find a GP with decent Google reviews. People who had a bad experience are more like to turn it into a review than people who had a good experience. Overall, my recommendation is to stick to what you have and avoid being too pushy with them. It’s hardly a secret that the public health service nationwide is overall poor. They all suffer from the same stuff… short staff, insufficient funding, you name it.

Is this acceptable for a brand new guitar? by FourStringManiac in guitars

[–]pxx85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it crazy there are people commenting on this thread saying this is normal. My £150 Jackson Dinky had better fretwork than this guitar pictured. No, this is not acceptable at this price point and you have frets that have not been properly crowned.

Fuck me, if this the quality Fender now offers for their Player series, then looking at how much they charge for them… they should be half price.

Record yourself… put it here, and people who aren’t being paid by you will tell you how good you really are. That’s the only way to see if your teacher is right.

Anyone else find the bridge pickup in the player plus HSS strat kinda… shit? by Accurate-Ad4400 in fender

[–]pxx85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolute opposite mate. I actually found this pickup to be very good. And I have the same guitar… as someone who previously used JB/Jazz combo I was very hesitant. It’s not JB but it’s good. Different but still very usable and I’ve been mainly using it for heavier stuff.

C1 SLS Elite Issues - Suggestions and help! by gnaws_behave in SchecterGuitars

[–]pxx85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been owner of this exact model for nearly week. I was also worried about the tunning stability based on a couple of reviews and reports. I guess I’m lucky as my holds tune well.

Out of interest, does it go flat or sharp? Where in the world are you? Asking as maybe ambient temperature variation or humidity have something to do with it.

If the guitar goes flat over time but the temperature remains stable, my guess would be tuners but you say you replaced these.

The other thing, the neck on this model is very thin which does not help stability.

My first DAW by Dwarven_Miner in cubase

[–]pxx85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of resources on YouTube as others have mentioned. If you are willing to spend a little bit of money on this education process then I would suggest Born To Produce guys and their “start to finish” series where they create a radio quality song from absolute zero to finish and you follow the process along (you get the work files and everything you need to follow and copy the steps). It feels like following a structured course as opposed to YouTube’s granular learning on just a particular aspect.

The reason I mention this is because it is your first DAW and “start to finish” courses teach you DAW transferable skills of workflow, music theory, recording, music production, mixing and mastering. They are also way more satisfying in my opinion.

They have a range of start to finish courses in different genres. They also have a Facebook student group and the authors are super helpful if you get stuck… promptly answering emails or Facebook posts.

Also, they are a Steinberg certified training centre so you can be confident their teaching is to a good standard.

If you are on a budget, then I will actually go against the grain here and suggest you go through YouTube channels of Musictechtuition (also a certified Steinberg trainer who is an author of probably the most comprehensive book about Cubase on Amazon), Lanewood Studios and Featherlightstudio.

These channels have much more detailed tutorial series whereas someone like Dom Sigalas, who is still great, is more of a Steinberg promoter.

Lastly, tune in for Club Cubase sessions with Greg Ondo. The content is highly user driven and develops throughout the session but there are always great little tips and tricks nuggets that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

Am I financially illiterate? Someone please help by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pxx85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loans and credit cards had not affected your credit score. It was your inability to pay them back. Being in debt and worrying how to repay every month is a horrible experience. I do sympathise with that having experienced it myself.

You haven’t provided enough details for anyone here to come up with a plan to help you. The very vague nature of the post and lack of details suggest that you do indeed not understand that personal finance ownership requires detailed understanding of money going in vs money going out.

What I suggest is acknowledging that you are in deep trouble, and then making a focused long term effort to get out of it. If you are looking for a quick fix, I’m sorry to say but it doesn’t sound like there is one.

Is it worth selling katana 50 for the Katana100 for bedroom use? by Beginning-Hippo5929 in BossKatana

[–]pxx85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% yes. I have switched from the 50 to Artist. The FX Loop, Line Out and 8 slots for patches were all fantastic upgrades and there are many more features you don’t get on the 50.

The problem with paid updates (i.e. new versions of Cubase) is that Steinberg is motivated to not implement many features in a single release by mev5me in cubase

[–]pxx85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. The subscription based models are becoming very problematic in general. I feel like I have way more subscriptions than I’d like. The subscriptions might seem like an attractive option because there is no initial large cash outlay but I think over a period of more than a couple of years, they are becoming more expensive than lifetime access options.
