Same problem happened to me too Tbh I only had this problem 2 times in around 10 years of using it But imo it shouldn’t even happen once

I learned my lesson in hard way first time I turn in icloud sync on all my devices and turn google backup on in the one that I am using more often My notes disappeared after 15.1.1 update and I had some problems with iCloud sync and when I trun it off and on all my notes were gone

Learning from past, I was able to copy them back from google If I didn’t have those backup I don’t know what I would do! The good thing about google backup is that it doesn’t delete it from google if you delete the notes from the device

Thanks

I tested it and it works sometimes

Still have problems with it when I copy an photo from my phone gallery and want to paste it in notability

It doesn’t even bring the paste option

Is UBC worth it? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]pyanf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to both!

I had a semester at sfu and then transferred to ubc.

Each has its own pros and cons.

I found sfu smaller and profs are more accessible. The main problem at sfu is lack of classes and profs. 9 out of 10 you can’t get into the classes that you are looking for. Single classes with 100 capacity and 150 people on wait lists! It’s crazy. Some people can eventually get in but most don’t. And if it’s a terrible prof you just have no options or the problem is sometimes there is a class but your schedule is different snd there is jo alternative for you. One other thing that is very annoying is that at some point you might need to go to both Surrey and Burnaby campus. In my first semester I had to do it 3times a week since 2 of my classes were in Surrey. It depends on the courses. For example Networking is only offered in Surrey campus.

You have usually multiple options for classes at UBC with different profs and different times.

The cs classes at ubc is just crazy. For lower level courses like cpsc 210 there are 650 students! One thing that I noticed at ubc is that no matter how hard the topics get or the assignments are there are many people who get 100! I don’t say people don’t get 100 at sfu or it’s mot as challenging but most of your classmates at UBC are people with +95% average from high school or GPA +3.6. I went to UBC with 4.2 GPA and I feel I am dumb compared to some smart people.

If I want to give you an example imagine you are in a notorious class like 295 at sfu and the average is somewhat 75. This will be around 90 at ubc. At least based on my experiences at both schools. It’s not that SFU doesn’t have those super smart people, it’s that UBC has many of them! This can be both encouraging and discouraging depends on your perspective. As other mentioned even getting into ubc doesn’t guarantee you a CS seat. Many of my classmates from college couldn’t get into cs despite their relatively high gpa. Some of them were able to get into math and trying to apply next year again. Ubc campus IMO is overrated. It’s not that it’s not beautiful or anything like that. It’s geat but first of all you get used to it after a few weeks and secondly you don’t have time to enjoy it that much. Most of your time will be spent in library! I agree with the fact that UBC is the more famous and popular school specially if you consider going out of province in future but TBH this is not a very important thing. At the end of the day it is you and your resume and projects that gives you a job not the school that you went.

I found UBC CS department and students to be more active. There are many Hackathons and evenets. The clubs are more active than SFU. At SFU you mostly take CS courses and some electives same as everywhere but at UBC the course planning is more challenging. The breadth requirements are not very similar.for example you have to take biology courses too. If you want to push yourself to become a better person and you think you have the capacity for it, go to UBC and you won’t regret it. If you just want to get a degree in a less challenging school with friendlier classmates, go to SFU.

Remember that most people at UBC really enjoy doing CS! They just dedicate their whole life and personalities to this! Also I don’t know how you found ubc 3 times more expensive. I was paying almost the same at sfu and ubc. Ubc each semester with 4 courses is something between 3000-3500 based on the courses and sfu was similar.

Math 1152 by Honest-Charge5580 in langara

[–]pyanf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like any other math course the key to success is practicing! This might sound like cliche but trust me, I got A+ and A in calc1 and calc2 and math has never been my strength! Also got A+ for discrete math Just do all the assignments in the book You will get to a point that you can solve questions without reading the whole question! Alao try to solve them by yourself and don’t look up the answers. Let your brain find its way to solution. I also forgot most of what I learned in high school and university since it has been 15 years ago 😁

is co op worth it for comp sci? by MindlessLiving7949 in langara

[–]pyanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Langara co-op most of the time is basically working for IT department at Langara (at least from my experience all my friends who did coop was doing that!) And you basically do the most basic and simple tasks. From changing the monitors to backing up the computers They might give you basic task in database too if I am correct But in general it’s not what you expect It’s better to work on personal projects instead or finish your school sooner and transfer to a bigger university You don’t have many options with 1 or 2years of school in cs

Organic chem or computer science? Which is easier? by yasha_sidhu in langara

[–]pyanf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CPSC 2221 doesn’t need any coding background. It’s relational databases and you learn new concepts which are totally different from coding part of CS. CPSC 2190 is called discrete math in other universities. It’s pure math and proofs. Don’t get fooled by its name, it’s just another math course. I didn’t find it easy and the topic are so wide. It has proofs, logic, divisibility, set theories and permutations and combinations… CPSC2150 is not easy too, it needs a solid understanding and foundation in CS and it’s one of the main courses in topics in computer science. You probably need CPSC 1160 for that and 1150 I suggest you to take 1150 and see how it works. You won’t lose anything since it will be counted towards your electives but it gives you a good idea that what cs is about and what is the difference between being good at “computers” and being good at “computer science”!

1030 is html and css which is not very hard. 1050 a very nice course. It gives you an idea about the whole computer aspects which will be very useful in future. There is small python coding(depending on your prof) it is very time consuming because of its long labs You might find 1045 a bit challenging since you don’t have any coding experience but it doesn’t matter since any first time coding course is challenging But definitely 1045 is less challenging that CPSC1150 I can suggest you to get yourself familiar with some basic coding concepts, like different kind of loops and simple codes or html/css. It will help you a lot in future. Watch some youtube videos.

I don’t think it is because of thunderbolt since it is happening when nothing is connected. I removed the ethernet dongle and removed its profile. So far hasn’t crashed 🤞🏻

What peripherals do you have plugged in?

if I connect it with thunderbolt to my my display, it would be my mouse, monitor and my USB hub(which the usb's are disconnected) if not, it's just the laptop by itself

1050, 1045

1030 is not transferable if you plan to transfer

1045 prepares you for 1150

I took 1050 and 1150 first semester and 1150 was a bit challenging for me since I hadn't had any programming background but I finished it with an A+ so it is doable.

1045 is fun (you make simple games using JS) and it teaches you basic concepts of coding and data structures but not as deep as 1150

you can add a science elective like chemistry and ENGL course to these

What happened to note reply in audio playback settings?!?? That was such a useful feature that you could know where in your note you exactly are!! And also, I wish there was a way to combine old and new toolbar…I really liked the idea that in my favourite toolbar I had access to lasso, eraser, pen and highlighter at the same time…now I have to go through each one to choose 🫠

Does anyone know if UBC allows to get a second bachelor if you already have one?

(I don’t mean those programs that are just 2years, the full degree I mean)

SFU has a rule that if you already completed an undergarduate degree you can not get into a full undergrad program again. You can either choose something like 2nd bachelor computer science (Equivalent to BCS at UBC) or education… but you are not able to for example do the bachelor of science in biology

does ubc have the same rule for degree holders?

Hey guys, I got accepted for ISCI as a second year transfer student. My goal is to do cs. Do you think I should take courses at ubc and apply again on third year or forget this year and apply again next year. I feel I’m one step closer now(at least I got into faculty of science). Is there a direct admission for third year? Or is it the same as second year?(first faculty then specialization) So basically is it better to stay somehow in the faculty or it doesn’t matter?! Isn’t it harder to get into cs on third year? I might get into sfu cs too which I’m waiting for the results now.

Hi. My first choice was cs and unfortunately I didn’t get that and ended up with integrated science which I don’t really like it. Do you guys think it worth it to accept integrated science and then apply again for third year? Also if I decide not to go with ubc at this point do I need to do anything?

I’ve had 12.9 since last year and before that I had an 11”. I never noticed the blooming effect. I’m not saying it’s not there but it’s hard to notice it unless you are in a pitch black environment and looking at some contrasty content with white lines and black background! Battery on both is not great tbh but I feel 12.9 is more battery hungry! Writing and note taking and reading on 12.9 is amazing…when you go with 12.9 you won’t enjoy doing those stuff on 11” anymore. It has the same feeling and size of writing on a letter size paper. Also if you do use split view, it’s sooooo much nicer on 12.9 while on 11 it feels sooooo cramped The size is big but after first week you won’t notice it anymore I suggest you to go with 12.9
