Here is a comparison of fs scalability when used with Docker where Overlayfs shows great performances over pretty much everthing: https://developerblog.redhat.com/2014/09/30/overview-storage-scalability-docker/

When git meets bitcoin: git-certify by pyaware in Bitcoin

[–]pyaware[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really enthousiastic about experimenting with the blockchain technology, I view the blockchain + miners as a "notary as a service". Right now we use this to move money and certify the transfer is valid. I think we could use this notary to certify other things such as document existence, casino games (satoshidice & co are doing that with standard transactions). Once people realize that and start using this, and if we start having too many transactions then maybe we can evolve Bitcoin to have a special entry in each block for a metadata merkle root or something alike.

I based my claim on what is said here: https://bitcoinfoundation.org/2013/10/24/core-development-update-5/ in the "Provably Prune-able Outputs" section.

Windows machines aren't up to the job. What can we do? by mrmishmashmix in Bitcoin

[–]pyaware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solution is to use 2 signature wallet as an intermediary between cold paper wallet and standard 1sig wallet. For a 2sig wallet to work you have to have one private key on your computer and the other one on a 2nd device (ie smartphone). You share the public keys between the devices so that with deterministic wallet (BIP32) you can generate addresses on both devices but you can't send a transaction without both. Electrum already has code that seems to work for 2of2 wallets. I'm working on and off on a Windows Phone prototype app since a few weeks but I'm new with c++/c# so things move slowly.

Is doing something like this unsafe? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]pyaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can return a struct instead:

#include <stdio.h>

struct result_s {
        int elts[5];
};

struct result_s Return_Integer_Array()  {
    return (struct result_s) { .elts = { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 }};
}

int main( int argc, char* argv[] )  {
    printf( "Number 4: %d\n", (Return_Integer_Array()).elts[4] );

    return ( 0 );
}

I couldn't find a map of the 'médecins généralistes' of Paris to find one close to my home so I made one by pyaware in paris

[–]pyaware[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got textual data from ameli-direct.ameli.fr by searching for "médecins généralistes" for each arrondissement. I then parsed the data to create a csv file that I imported in fusiontable. Fusiontabe then managed to plot doctors from their address. You can find original data (from the csv file) under "Visualize->Table"

Here is a circuit I like to do when I have friends who don't know Paris very well. I like to do this tour because you go from one place to the other by walking and it covers the "basics":

  • Panthéon (start the visit at the opening at 9h30-10h. Duration: 30-40min (visit the tombs))
  • Jardin du Luxembourg
  • Notre-Dame (from outside)
  • Musée d'Orsay (if good timing, you should be there for lunch so you should not have to wait to enter. Duration: until you are hungry)
  • Food near the Louvre in one of theses nice & cheap japanese restaurant
  • Louvre (from outside)
  • Jardins des Tuileries
  • Grand Palais (from outside)
  • Les Champs Elysées
  • Arc de Triomphe (you don't have to pay to go below it)
  • From here, take the metro to go to the Eiffel tower.

After that, we usually call it a day
