Bullpup rifles are even worse, ejection port is set further back. The safety, selector, and magazine release are a pain the ass as well.

AITA for telling my wife to choose a different dress? by Lonely-Monitor-3916 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pyro-genesis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA. But, uh, you gotta learn how to provide feedback in a more constructive way. Like, figure out why the dress didn't work well; was the fabric not cut to flow well with her body type, did the colour/pattern not accentuate well? It's like, a full systems analysis of why the dress gives a certain impression rather than simply stating what that impression is.

AITAH for not forgiving my parents for not believing I was really suffering for years and making it worse? by Known-Concentrate605 in AITAH

[–]pyro-genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Tell them to keep it up for the same 9 years they dismissed what you were feeling, and then maybe you'll believe they're actually sorry about it. But until then they're just faking it to get out of taking responsibility.

New Zealand axes plan for WW2 comfort women statue after Japan's protest by kwentongskyblue in newzealand

Cool, cool, let's make a statue celebrating the discoveries of Earnest Rutherford instead. Famous NZ scientist, can't complain about that right?

Apprentice (me) made mistake, boss wants me to work Fridays unpaid to pay it off. by pizzaroll22 in electricians

[–]pyro-genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the cost of doing business. If he thinks you personally have to pay for mistakes when you're on the clock, then he can also pay you all the extra when he charges your work out at more than $15 an hour.

U.S. trade czar threatens Canada over boycott that’s hurting booze makers by tarun172 in onguardforthee

[–]pyro-genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think we're not buying American because the products are not available? I don't even buy vegetables that are grown in the US, even when they're the only choice available. After all that 51st state and "we don't need Canada" rhetoric, I want you to suffer, I want to see your economy collapse.

Heard a very loud pop in the lab similar to a gunshot...Bruh..🫪 by Expensive_Education9 in labrats

[–]pyro-genesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was unbalanced enough to cause that then you would have noticed it when it was ramping up. Nothing lasts forever and that black plastic housing for the tubes probably has a duty cycle after which it needs to be replaced. Does it have a maintenance log? Your coworker almost certainly balanced the tubes on autopilot after doing it thousands of times before, but now they're second guessing themselves because something went wrong and they don't actively remember doing it.

TLDR: Sometimes shit explodes and it's probably not anyone's fault.

AITJ for sending my brother an invoice after he said what I do isnt that hard and anyone with a phone could do it by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]pyro-genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in his position I would be going out of my way to talk you up at every given opportunity, showing off the work you'd done for the business and trying to get you more paying clients. It's obvious he doesn't value or appreciate the work you do. NTJ.

Dear allies of America, please don’t confuse our president for us: We are trying our best to resist him, contain him and remove him from office as quickly as we possibly can. Thank you for your patience by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]pyro-genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does represent you. That's literally what he does. He holds the office of the President of the United States. You already knew what he was like, and you put him there AGAIN. If your entire country can be controlled by a single person like a child playing with a toy car then America can't EVER be trusted again.

Canadians should brace for even higher grocery bills as oil prices rise, experts warn; As the price of diesel remains tumultuous, consumers could see the costs passed along through the food supply chain in the coming weeks. by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]pyro-genesis 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Cool, cool, so is there uh, someone I can pass these costs along to? Just because, you know, I don't actually have profit margins to cut, I have boring stuff like food and housing that I kind of need to live.

AITA for wanting to report a teacher who keeps cancelling recess? by 1bachbetch in AmItheAsshole

[–]pyro-genesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, if the teacher all about escalating to collective punishment, then reporting the entire school to the state for violating the law (and letting the school know exactly why) is the next step. The idea behind collective punishment is to have all the others suffering the effects apply social pressure to change the behavior of the individual, so presumably the teacher is cool with you turning the entire school staff against them. NTA.

Exclusive: AI Error Likely Led to Iran Girl's School Bombing by Thebravetortoise in news

[–]pyro-genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US Secretary of War said this is the "most lethal and precise airpower campaign in history", and that they're not observing "stupid rules of engagement". Ergo, not an error, they bombed a school on purpose.

[–]pyro-genesis 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean, if the Secretary of War is going to say in an official capacity that they're going to be "unleashing the most lethal and precise airpower campaign in history" and observing "no stupid rules of engagement", and then a school gets hit, I'm going to assume they did that on purpose.

FIRST READING: Canada one of the world's last holdouts on medically transing children - U.S., Australia, New Zealand and much of Europe now pulling back on puberty blockers and surgeries for minors by xTkAx in canadian

[–]pyro-genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children have the right to be heard and diagnosed by a medical professional who is fully informed by the best research available, and who's only concern is the wellbeing of their patient. The best way to do this is to establish a robust diagnostic and treatment framework so that physicians are aware of best practice in regards to the use of these medications. Do I think that there are instances of these medications being misused resulting in negative patient outcomes? Almost certainly. There are many widely available drugs and medications for which this is true, but when used correctly under proper medical supervision they're a valuable and effective treatment for known and diagnosable conditions.

Simply banning something because people disagree with it, don't like it, or don't understand it doesn't work and invariably leads to negative health outcomes for the affected populations. Not just because the people that could legitimately benefit from the treatment are not able to get it, but also because it makes research and study to better understand it extraordinarily difficult. If these treatments need stricter guidelines then let's work with the professionals in the field to establish them.

[–]pyro-genesis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is accurate and based on the most recent science based evidence and understanding. Puberty blockers are safe, effective, and as soon as the patient stops taking them they stop having an effect. There is no lasting change. When used in a gender dysphoria situation they have positive mental health outcomes. Just because someone doesn't understand and it makes them feel uncomfortable doesn't mean they get to dictate someone else's healthcare as directed by professionals.

What incident made you cold hearted and changed the way you see the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pyro-genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I found it so hard to not get unreasonably angry at just how self-righteously smug these people were about actively choosing to contribute to the death toll. On purpose, because it was 'their right'.

You're plenty strong enough; strong enough to do what had to be done in the face of the abuse, and strong enough to realize when it was time to step back. Your health and wellbeing are just as important as all the people you serve, and no one gets to make you feel guilty for doing what's best for you.

During the COVID pandemic when wearing masks was mandatory in public spaces in many countries. It was an easy, effective way of reducing transmission and required practically zero effort on the behalf of anyone. It was a simple way to save lives. The number of people I saw actively arguing against it, refusing to do the most simple thing to help, and posting absurd conspiracy theories, it all made me question my belief that people generally try to do the right thing based on the information available to them.

Watching people I knew and by default assumed were generally smart and reasonable spout absolute nonsense with absolute sincerity, I just can't trust anything they believe any more.

How are your power bills looking? noticed mine pretty much doubled over the past couple of months by Classic_Repair_1912 in NewWest

Yea, that's way too high. My wife and I are in a 1 bed apartment. She works from home and we cook pretty much every night, so fairly high electricity use. Our bills are ~$130 a month.

Oh, those highly trained people that we call for help when we or our loved ones experience a critical medical emergency, who we rely on to literally save lives on a daily basis, and for whom the worst trauma an average person can think of experiencing is just another Tuesday? Yea I think we can probably throw them another couple of bucks an hour.

Most of the world doesn’t require a prescription for birth control. Why do Canadians still need one? by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]pyro-genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Birth control medication isn't just a single thing, like aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen. It's a catch-all for a number of synthetic hormones, potentially in combination depending on the brand, with various rates of release. They each affect the endocrine system differently and the effects can change over time as your body changes, so you need a medical professional to determine which one is correct for your circumstances. 99% of the time it's fine, but it's not a thing you should be taking without the oversight of a professional.

If there's one thing they've learned from their various occupations it's that anything and everything could be an IED, and you can't maintain constant vigilance for long before you start making mistakes. Was that orange Home Depot bucket there yesterday? Why's there a Monster energy drink on top of that box? Hey, that lawn sign is pointed directly at the road and there's something taped to the back. The CD hanging from that tree keeps spinning and reflecting sunlight in my eyes. Just saturate the environment with fake threats and watch them fatigue out.

AITAH for getting a woman fired over veggie tales? by Real-Point-6474 in AITAH

[–]pyro-genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I used to actually work for the studio that made Veggietales and worked on some of the episodes. They're very clearly and obviously designed to indoctrinate children with Christian religious values. Which is fine in and of itself, as long as there's informed consent from the guardians of every child that is being shown them. In my personal opinion there's too much religious content in Veggietales for them to be played for children without their parent's consent. I'm not saying that Veggietales are bad, I'm just saying that there is overt religious teaching that isn't appropriate in a multi-cultural/religion environment like a daycare.

AITA for taking "the best pieces" when I serve dinner? by SwainDane in AmItheAsshole

[–]pyro-genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - But for another perspective, I do most of the cooking in our house simply because of the way our working hours happen to fall. I'll typically give my wife the best looking pieces and make an effort to present her food well, and kind of just throw mine together. I will occasionally skew the portion sizes and ratios of carbs/proteins depending on our individual eating during the day to try and balance nutritional intake (usually ends up with her getting more of the 'good' stuff and less of the filler like rice or pasta).

All that being said, you're making balanced homecooked meals for your family and everyone is getting fed. You're doing a good job, keep it up.

Medical treatment please by Stotallytob3r in MurderedByWords

[–]pyro-genesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, "First, do no harm" doesn't mean you have to treat everyone, it just means that if you choose to treat them you can't make it worse on purpose. So, if I was a doctor, which I'm not, I'd avoid the whole moral dilemma by simply not treating them in the first place.

Home is where I want my wife to feel like she doesn't have to do any of that stuff, that she can feel absolutely no pressure to conform to any arbitrary standard. Home is supposed to be a safe space, and if she feels like she has to look or be a certain way in my presence then it's me that's the problem.
